Her (Galadriel's) decision is a bit inscrutable, Celebrimbor was so much cooler than Celebron. Maybe Galadriel just wanted to be the star in a Elven power couple.

Love your videos. This is a great video, especially with Rings of Power s2 starting up. (I know the lore in that show is ALL OVER the place, but i am enjoying it). I love your enthusiasm for Tolkien <3

Thank you, as always!! I love your stance on Celebrimbor. As with Isildur, lots of readers, myself included, wrongly conclude that these characters fail. There are levels of depth throughout the Legendarium that I never would have appreciated without your work. Looking forward to whatever is next!!

Super off-topic, but I feel like you would want to see Círdan the Shipwright in the RoP show. You were literally the first person I thought of when he first appeared. He is exactly how you describe him in particular. It's like they listened to you gush about him! RoP has a multitude of issues, but man their portrayal of Círdan isn't one of them (so far).

There was speculation in Unfinished Tales that Gandalf The White was actually the final avatar of Manwë…

This is exactly the point I arrived at from watching many of these other videos. I was never big into LOTR but I never disliked it... but now it just seems pretty lame to me. I appreciate what it represents and how it is basically the father of modern fantasy, but the story just seems kind of pointless when Iluvatar clearly would have tipped the scales however he needed to get the end result that he wanted, as he did several times... notably when he brings Gandalf back to life much more powerful than he was before so he can finish his task... It's just like, what were the stakes in this story? i guess it's more on a grounded level... the lives of the mortals... but still... Iluvatar just kind of controlling things at will really ruins the story for me.

Me just being baffled because the close captioning on my phone that only has at best 80% accuracy relating English just perfectly spelled every Tolkienish word in the video, like my phone speaks better Elvish than English

Here is a thought: The Ruling Ring on Sauron's hand is also a great disappointment. This Ring is said to betray all who wield it, and this is seen in Isuldur, Deagol, Gollum, Frodo, and lastly, Gollum for the final time. However, the Ring first cheats Sauron. Sauron not only failed in his objective to control any of the Rings controlled by elves, but they put them away. So even lesser rings are useless to him. In the end, the Ring is taken from his hand in battle, not the first time it will so abandon a master, and passes away from him. Then, no matter how he bends his will to it, the Ring always move aside of his purpose, thus cheating him still. In a final irony, the Ring betrays Gollum, Sauron, and even it's own self by dropping into the chasms of Doom to be unmade. Sauron, in his malice, created an instrument to betray, and ever after, all Sauron's designs go amiss. They may not appear to do so for generations, but when the Dark Lord is a primordial being, centuries are meaningless. So the Ring betrays, as is its very nature, until the very end. Even its resting place is removed as it seems that Mt. Doon appears to tear itself apart in cataclysmic pyrotechnics.

I am enormously grateful for your content. You have a rare talent of bringing out so many minute details of Tolkien’s writing - connecting names, interpretations, events , actions beyond any other channel I’ve come across. It’s almost as if you have cognitive access to the Tolkien Spirit. I can’t imagine how you know the author’s work so intimately! It’s as if you’ve written every single detail of ALL of Tolkien’s works multiple times to have such mastery of content. That mastery combined with your skill at storytelling is entertaining and unique. I am inspired to wish some high level of success for you in reward for all the effort and skill you’ve poured out for us. I truly would love to see your talent recognized and rewarded on a grand scale not only for your Tolkien compilation & content but also for some work uniquely of your own creation ! I feel blessed to have enjoyed your work.

19:00: It seems that in The History of Galadriel and Celeborn, Sauron was able to find the Nine during the sack of Eregion without Celebrimbor being tortured, and only found the Seven after Celebrimbor revealed their locations under torture. Interesting that there'd be a distinction between Nine and Seven prior to their distribution by Sauron. I'm just referencing Tolkien Gateway for this, though. They do cite The History of Galadriel and Celeborn at least.

28:00 to 28:20: Funnily enough, in an early version of the _Lord of the Rings_ backstory, after Isildur lost the Ring in the river, a fish swallowed it and went crazy before spitting it out elsewhere where Smeagol eventually found it. So maybe there's a precedent for these Ring-swallowing dragons being affected. I guess Carcharoth is also a precedent.

DAVE! Another video so soon?!?! I am in heaven with all this content! Thank you for finding the time (and creative focus) in your busy schedule for this important background (I say that because the AHEM! "Very Broadly Based On Tolkien" show is back, and certainly plays fast and loose with the lore; so it feels appropriate to have genuine lore prominently available...).
