45 minutes into this video. It's the whole thing gonna be eric saying "if there is a god, then it makes sense that there would be a god?" Like. The interdimensional spider entity perfectly explains how every Peter Parker in every universe manages to become Spider-Man. But if I dont believe the claim that Peter Parker is Spider-Man in this reality, then you can't invoke him in your assertion that the interdimensional spider entity exists. Yeah, God offers a perfectly good explanation for how Jesus came back from the dead. I don't believe that Jesus came back from the dead, so his alleged ressurection doesn't convince me that your god exists

I like how Matt answered the question about his belief in the big bang theory with essentially "all the evidence we have points towards the big bang being the most viable hypothesis about the beginning of the universe, but I don't lend complete credence to it; in fact, it's almost certainly at least partially wrong" and eric has the fucking audacity to claim that Matt treats the big bang the same way eric does god

"Can you name a natural law that can give rise to the kind of complexity we see in living cells?" Sure. Electromagnetism, the strong and weak nuclear forces, and gravity. You don't need some secret fifth thing for things that exist to exist.

"Can you name a natural law that allows for shells to be arranged perfectly so that they read 'I love you, Matt?'" Again with the "natural law" nonsense. Yeah, there are natural _processes_ that can arrange shells in that orientation. The vast majority of the time, when we see human-readable English text, it was written by a human. Sometimes we see it randomly occur though. Given enough time and space, there have surely been countless short english phrases written in the sand with seashells that were placed there through purely natural ocean currents and wind. It's not impossible. It's simply far more likely for an English written phrase to be written by an English speaker, in a time and a place where there are likely to be people who speak English nearby. Contrast that with seeing a very clear image of a face on another planet. Given a lack of intelligent people nearby to construct it, it becomes far more likely to be a result of natural land formations, and as it turns out, further investigation revealed that to be the case with the face on Mars. As far as we can tell, there wasn't any intelligent creator a few billion years ago putting As and Ts and Cs and Gs together. Give a lack of evidence for there being any intelligent beings at the time, it becomes far more likely to be the result of random chance. A random chance which becomes far more likely to happen _at some point_ given the vast amount of water, nutrients, and energy input available at the time.

This wasn’t a debate about the god of the Bible. This was a debate about if an intelligent mind created the universe and cell. There could be a different intelligent mind that is not the god of the Bible. So how can you correlate the Bible god with the type of intelligence it requires for creation.

So what about the cells that are abnormal or malfunction that I in the medical field have to administer IV medications for so that the person may live. Is this intelligence then deficient a not all knowing and perfect and the creation is not perfect because if it was , I would not have a job. -

You never see someone saying "I was in a completely clear-headed rational state of mind examining things calmly" before they tell their coming-to-the-lord story. Always someone whose state of mind is a total mess at a rock bottom desperate for an answer. And bam the subconscious grabs hold of whatever is necessary to affect a change.

I'm late to this debate but good Lord I had to skip through the apologists argument several times because he just kept blabbering on with these arguments from ignorance and assertions with no evidence. And then he kept telling people what they think and what they know. It was really frustrating to listen to this guy. And I just started listening to the debate. I have a feeling I'm going to skip through most of his portion of the debate frankly because he's not providing any new information that he hasn't already stated. And again nothing he stated has been ground in reality it's all because the Bible says so or because he asserts it to be true.

I get why christians find Eric’s apologetics convincing. Apologetics are designed by people who already believe and are looking for a reason to justify that belief. Eric talks like someone working from a script who’s not actually listening to or thinking about what his opponent is saying.

I remember Eric when he called in to AE. Eric you made a claim in that call that you presupposed you would win a debate against Matt. I hate to tell you but you lost buddy. All of your explanations got you nowhere. It's a bunch of mumbo jumbo trying to adjust what you know deep down to be true. Which is you know there isn't evidence for god. You are a narcissist. You aren't on the same level as Matt. You aren't on the same level as me...even. You think your smart. And you think you are right. But you are wrong. You lost.

The main problem with the premises that Eric has presented here is not that they do not logically follow, but that even these premises do not necessarily lead to the Christian god (I also have a problem with the last premise, e.g. whatever is eternal is intelligent, but that's beside the point). Another problem is that in arguing that these premises lead to the Christian god, he has committed an argument from incredulity fallacy. The argument from incredulity fallacy is an informal fallacy, meaning that the problem with the argument lies not in the structure of the argument, but in some other error in reasoning. By saying "Matt hasn't disproved or presented an alternative model to my argument," Eric is not only shifting the burden of proof, but the further conclusions he draws from his premises are blatantly fallacious to all but the religious zealot who is viewing this debate not as a method through which to reach the truth, but a way to dig themselves further into the comfortable hole they have found themselves in (presumably after years of childhood indoctrination if they grew up in the US).
