An amazing musical thrill ride. I like to imagine Phil telling Johnny “I’ll race you to the end” - and they’re off!

As an old Punk Rocker I have to say this is more hardcore than any punk band. Mindboggling speed, Phil's accordion has difficulty keeping up with him. Brilliant, the stuff that legends are made of.😃

it's a nice song...but I can see why they call it a loser's song--the protagonist has been thrown over by some character and instead of telling him off, she begs him in the most pathetic way possible to come back to her. Hey girl, give that creep a piece of your mind he'll never forget! Who died and made him king? Are you that lonely that you want the dirty dog to come back and "smell your pillow"? I mean, really!

the funny thing is, the song is about me. I came back. Now we're married with 2 kids. To be fair, I was a jerk, but cleaned up my act, and now I'm the luckiest man alive!

Saw them several times at International House and the Cherry Tree on Penn's Campus. Even after he left the group, Johnny would show up and join them on stage. Their show became cheidhlis, with people dancing at the back of the room.

I remember those shows vividly. And their Green Willow appearances in Delaware. One of my best memories of Johnny was him closing the Philadelphia Ceili Group's festival in 1982 or '83, when it was still held outdoors at Fisher's Pool near Lansdale. He was part of a pickup band with Gerald Trimble, Tim Britton, and Mark Simos, and their sound just thundered through that perfect P.A. setup they always had at that festival.

Thanks for the comment! It's Josh, by the way. Sure there's lots of great fiddle players out there. Jay Unger, Bobby Hicks, Charlie Daniels. They may be great, but no man alive can match Johnnys sense of humour. Except Phil.

Don't know when this was made, but I saw them play at ODU in Norfolk, Va. and they played this very set and looked just like they do in this video. Thank you for posting this, brings back such great times. Johnny was still playing on his Wizard fiddle and he let me play it, what a thrill, such a magical instrument, it was stolen in N.Y. at the airport is what I heard. They were a great team, funny too.
