I'd probably be a roundhead if I was around when the civil war started... but man, those cavaliers really make some good songs. (MY GOD WHY IS THAT FIRST PART OF THE COMMENT SO HARD TO SAY?!?!??!) yes, i know this is a restoration song and not one from the war, but you get it

As far as I can make them out: We have a king, and yet no king, for he has lost his power! For 'gainst his will his subjects are imprisoned in the tower. We had some laws, but now no laws by which he held his crown, we had estates and liberties, but now they're voted down! It's a mad world my masters, where kings may lose their crown! And commoners take coronets, set up, yet soon put down! We have no King, we are all kings, and each doth do his pleasure, and hasten anarchy abroad, and sin beyond all measure. The Crown and Sceptre're, out of date, the mitre low doth lie, the tyrant's state subjects us all, but cries democracy! It's a mad world my masters, where kings may lose their crown! And commoners take coronets, set up, yet soon put down! We were free subjects born but now, we are by force made slaves, by those who we did count our friends, but in the end proved knaves. And liberate from royal grasp, we find ourselves enchained, by demagogues of humble stock, who have our king arraigned. It's a mad world my masters, where kings may lose their crown! And commoners take coronets, set up, yet soon put down! The freedoms we were told were ours by those who fought the king, have now been proved mere empty show, a vale of hollow ring. Where justice was to be our lot injustice rank now grows, and from the spring of liberty a sullied trickle flows. It's a mad world my masters, where kings may lose their crown! And commoners take coronets, set up, yet soon put down! Arise therefore, brave British men fight for your King and State, against those traitorous men who strive this realm to ruinate. 'Tis Pym, 'tis Pym and all his ilk, that do our woe engender, naught but their lives, and end our woes and us in safety render. It's a mad world my masters, where kings may lose their crown! And commoners take coronets, set up, yet soon put down!

It took a sufficient toll of the Scottish nobility and upper ranks in society that it weakened Scotland for the rest of the 16th century, and perhaps made it more susceptible to the Reformation, though it came to Scotland a little later than to England.

James II was subject to the absolutely insane warming pan theory, it's was also about establishing a centeral bank. That's why it wasn't the people who decided, it was a handful of influential MPs who were jealous of the dutch banking system. Ever wonder why the "financial revolution" (which resulted in the introduction of national debt) happen immediately after the "glorious" revolution. Like if you wanna get rid of him, depose him. Don't do this weasely behavior and send secret letters asking foreign nations to invade

I googled the Battle of Flodden. It's a doozy. First, Flodden is right on the border between England and Scotland, so Scotland got destroyed the moment they left their home country. Second, the Scottish outnumbered the English by at least 4,000 men, likely more. Third, of the 12,000-15,000 men who died, only about 1,500 were English. Meaning somewhere between 87% and 90% of the deaths were Scottish. It was a total Scottish disaster. It was like the Battle of Bannockburn in reverse. It was also part of the larger War of the League of Cambrai, which was about Italian city states. Neither England nor Scotland gained anything from it.

Since James VI of Scotland became James I of England, and James VII of Scotland was James II of England, I always count backwards for the five James' that came before James I. James V of Scotland is James the Zeroth of England. James IV is James the Negative First, James III is James the Negative Second, James II is James the Negative Third, and James I is James the Negative Fourth.

If it's true that history is written by the victors, it's also true that The Cause can be kept alive by song. This one was well-done - has a raw sound, like soldiers marching. As one branch of my family came to New England in 1620 and another to Boston in 1635, their sentiments would've been on the other side. Compliments to The City Waites.

The greatest act of treason in European History… Six years later, the worlds first major central bank - the Bank of England would be made. This would lead to debt-based economics, fiat-currencies and a hegemonic power grab by a rootless international clique…. I wonder who funded the mercenaries in 1688? Or who funded all those fancy Roundhead helmets for the New Model Army in the Wars of the Three Kingdoms in the 1640s? Hmm…. Gets the noggin joggin….
