Jason, always like your honest videos - great job. I used the Griots Garage Ceramic Head Light Restoration Kit on my 2000 986S with fantastic results. Elbow grease - yes, but the final step seals the deal. Good luck.

I wonder why aftermarket headlights are unavailable for my 2000 Porsche? I bought entire aftermarket headlight assemblies for my truck for under $100. The Porsche ones are many times more expensive.
@jasonsporschechannel94520 сағат бұрын
During a conversation about clearing my headlights, my neighbor asked "well, how much would new headlights cost"? Like that was a better option. I told him that the cheapest I had seen was $800. He didn't bring it up again. That is a good question though, because you can get really cheap suspension parts, (though I don't trust their quality). I've never seen bad quality cheap headlights. Poor people like me need a cheap headlight option for our Porsche.LoL. I guess doing regular headlight maintenance is our cheaper option. Thanks for watching

I was dreading it to, but because of the ripped out back window, I had no choice. Make sure you have all of your tools and glue, etc. ready before you start. Also, have a place where the car can sit for three days. Then just take your time. Don't break anything on the frame or scratch the car. Then, when you're finished, be proud and relish the fact that you did it yourself. Good luck. thanks for watching, and let us know how it turned out.

Most of the 986's have reached their 25th birthday. I expect that there are many materials such as the drip trays that could fail due to age. I hope that you continue to post videos showing your work. They will be valuable to your fellow owners. I have had similar experiences in which a two-hour job turned into an all-day affair. For example, a few years ago. I ripped one of my drip trays when I installed a 2004 top and frame in my 2000 Boxster. Fortunately, I was able find a used set quickly for a reasonable cost. I don't recall having to disassemble as many components as you did, but you may have done a better job than I did.

Great video. You can also ‘overwrite’ the engine bay cooling fan by grounding the relay and put a switch in between. I did that for the radiator fans, so I can decide when they kick-in, since I think the radiator fans kick in a little too late on warm days in traffic

You just need to leave it out in the sun to let the top stretch into place.
If you have smoke in your exhaust at start up, you probably have a bad air oil separator. Smoke in exhaust while accelerate is probably bad piston rings. The smoke I was experiencing was from the engine bay at high engine revs. Then I found the oil mess near a spark plug and realized it was a bad spark plug tube. Thanks for watching

Hello, So far all the parts I've put on the car have worked perfectly. I don't track the car, and I really don't usually push it that hard on the street, maybe some times. Most of the new parts have over a thousand miles on them and so far so good. Good luck, and thanks for watching.

t@@jasonsporschechannel945 thank you for your reply :) Now I am "dealing" with coolant missing. Previous owner did engine repair bcs of engine consumed water. But after this engine servis I am dealing with the same problem but.... Car is not overheating, pulls better then stock ( exhaust, desnorkel, denso iridium, KN filter ) but still the water is lower and lower... water pump is ok, I did the change personally. No leaks under the car... its mystery ...
@jasonsporschechannel9459 ай бұрын
That really is a mystery. It must be inside the engine if you don't see any leaks when it's parked. The coolant is evaporating out in such a way that it doesn't accumulate and drip out later. Wow, that's a tough one. Unfortunately I haven't had to do anything internal to my engine, so I don't know what to tell you. Good luck, and keep me posted.@@tomasabraham5651

I didn't do the tail lights on this video because they were all working at the time. Since then I have had to replace a brake light bulb. On my '99 it was super simple, no tools required. In the trunk there is a plastic trim nut holding a carpet piece in place behind the tail lights; you can unscrew it with your hand. Then pinch (push up) a gray tab that comes through the black housing and then pull the black housing piece straight back. All of your bulbs are connected to this housing (be careful). Then when you've replaced the bulb, carefully line up the bulbs with their holes and push the cover back on. The gray tab will lock it in place, then replace the carpet, securing it with the plastic trim nut. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching.

Thank you for posting a very clear video describing the steps to seal the holes in both doors. One thing I found helpful, based on your video, is the length of the radio and the a/c-heater control panels cables allowed me to located a standard size carton (16" x 12' x6") in front of the passenger seat, thereby not having to disconnect these cables and to reconnect the a/c-heater control cable when I moved to doors from "Hi" to "Lo" temperature settings.

My boxter right front side roof not connected well... You are Dr.boxter. i think you understand what i am saying. How do i connect it? At the moment it is ok to close open roof
@jasonsporschechannel94511 ай бұрын
I'm not sure exactly where your top is loose. But follow along with the video, specifically for the problem area. When you have your specific plastic piece removed, tuck the roof material in (it might need some adhesive), then replace the plastic pieces to hold it in place. Pay close attention to the section of video where I attach the new roof in your problem area. There may be a special clamp or maybe a screw didn't go through a hole in the canvas, or something. Don't worry, I'm sure you can figure it out.

I can hear hissing sound from right rear side. Recently replaced water pump. Because of that coolant replaced. I replceaed new coolant cap. But stillmhear hissing sound. Do you have any idea??
@jasonsporschechannel94511 ай бұрын
could it be the pressure release valve located next to the oil fill cap (and under the black cover) you might have a lot of air trapped in the system that is venting out, or you might have a faulty pressure release valve. Or is the hissing sound coming from the convertible top?
@Wowwow-wl3kx11 ай бұрын
@@jasonsporschechannel945 Thanks for your quick reply~^^ you mean bleeder valve? i opened it(clip vertical position). it was in vain. I had new tires put on my 03 Boxster S and noticed it drove funny on the way home. Got home and I always re-torque the lug bolts after any shop removes my wheels. I noticed looking at the tires and on one side the person that put the wheels back on, put the front at the back and vice-versa. I could have just as easily switched them to their proper spot, but felt like the shop should know and correct it. Took the car back and they fixed it, but didn't get offer a discount or anything for the inconvenience. I do know what shop it happened at, Tires Plus.
