Replacing Shocks On My 1999 Porsche Boxster

In this video I'll be replacing the shocks/struts on my 1999 Porsche 986. The shocks are kind of expensive, so I did the front ones first, then a few months later did the rear. Strangely, the original front shocks had no trace of the rubber bump stops, so I didn't realize that I needed them until I started looking at the rear shocks. Also I want to apologize, I wasn't feeling well when I did the rear shocks and I didn't record every step. I think once you do the front though that you'll be able to figure out the rear. Nice video, I watched out of curiosity since I did this job on mine last year. Had to look away when you were using the widow-maker spring compressors, I really hate those! Keep up the great work!

Jason, I had the same vibration in the wheel. I had the front wheels re-balanced. That worked..

The axle nut. Was that hard to remove and out back on? Doesn’t it require something like 340 ft/lbs of torque? How did you do that?

Yes, the rear axel nut had to be removed. I used a pneumatic impact wrench and started on a #1 and moved up to #4 when it came off (#5 would have been the highest torque). So when I put it back on I used the #4 torque and have to assume it's torqued right because I don't have a torque wrench that goes to 340. It's not the ideal way to do it, but it seems to have worked. Thanks for watching.

I eventually replaced all the suspension parts and adjusted the front trunk latch to get rid of all the exterior rattles and squeaks. Now the car drives great, but I can hear all the interior noises and need to fix them. Thanks for watching

good eye. I didn't realize that the bump stops were missing until I did the rear shocks (there was still a little rubber left on the rear ones). So I had to remove and disassemble the front shocks again once I got all four bump stops. Thanks for watching.
