The 'sud has a current MOT! We have had a few Alfas over the years. An A reg 1.3 Sprint, 1.5 'sud, 33 1.7 Sportwagon, series 2, a 2L TS 75, a 2.5 V6 auto, 33 P4, a LHD 1.3 series 3 33 (despite being a series 3, manual steering and carbs), 2 155s (both 2L 16v) and a 156. 156 was a lovely car - best saloon I have ever driven. Overall they were pretty reliable. Not got an Alfa anymore (I have an MX5). The 156 was lovely and I would like one, but the cam belt change is a pain and / or expensive. 159 series just doesn't appeal (drove a Brera a couple of times, and it was just overweight with a boring engine). Guilia could be tempting.
@lurntwubber
@lurntwubber Жыл бұрын
Giulia is tempting, but other priorities at the moment! (lucky i have the time/money to keep the 75 project going :D), MX5s are a good bit of fun, i've driven both the abarth and fiat version of the newer 124 spider and they were both great rental cars in italy! Shame about the 159 (939 platform) didn't float your boat, they are solid cars, far from race cars but i found the 2.4 jtdm (especially mapped) to be the most lively.

@@lurntwubber , possibly too many years of bikes (especially 2 strokes) - I like engines that rev and which reward being revved. The Fiat Spider is at least massively better looking than the current Mazda version. Seem to be arguments either way which is better to drive. I will certainly consider one when I need another car. Down side is they (along with the Mazda version) have smaller boots and no glove boxes for storage compared to my MX5 - which is a big factor in a car for regular use. Brera just felt like a big overweight car with an uninspiring engine (it is close to 50% heavier than the 156). Sort of what I would expect if VW tried building an Alfa. A friend has a Giulia and they love it.

Year ago we had 2 75s. A 2L TS and a 2.5V6 auto. The TS was electrically pretty good, the V6 had been butchered a bit (think the fuel pump had been on the way out, so they had gone mad trying to compensate rather than just replace the relatively cheap pump). Still have the odd part floating around. Been sorting out bike wiring looms recently. Hard part is finding the replacement connectors and terminals (a website called Kojaycat has quite a few).
@lurntwubber
@lurntwubber Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the tip! I managed to find the ignition (dash>Bay) connector relatively easy on eBay. I suspect as the 75 was on the cusp of mass market Motronic and joint venture bosch bits (3bar fuel pump included!) they are still fairly widely available!
@katywalker8322
@katywalker8322 Жыл бұрын
@@lurntwubber , the pump or close (ie, possibly different terminals) was common to loads of cars. For real fun, there was a 2L V6 version of the Alfa 90 built which for some reason had a completely different fuel injection system (not Bosch)

I'm really enjoying your videos LurntWubber. I've wondered about the 105 wheel well as mine has the same issue, good to know its a solution. I've also wondered if the 105 front jacking point repair panel could be modified to fit the 75. The worst rot on mine is parts of the floor pan and offside sill end at the bottom of the A post. Of course mine also has the rot under the rear light unit. I had it repaired by the local dealer under the corrosion warranty, didn't last. Really must get cracking on mine, it won't restore its self!
@lurntwubber
@lurntwubber Жыл бұрын
Glad to hear it Phil, I'll keep 'em coming best I can, you can get whole outer sills from I believe "alfa-service" or "OKP" I forget which, but they are relatively cheap. But if it's localised I would likely go for a repair with some sheet steel to save buying a whole sill. I am trying to share links and advice on my site over at alfaromeo75.co.uk which may help too 👍

Why the 75?
@lurntwubber
@lurntwubber Жыл бұрын
Why not! For me, personally, the 75 is in the magical sweet spot of late 80s early 90s tech where its modern enough to be built more technically, but not late enough to be snubbed by safety (foreshadowing) or the bubble panels of the later 90s. And to anyone mechanically minded, it's just interesting with its rock solid torsion bar front suspension, it's huge sacrifices for low unsprung mass and center of gravity. And as for moving to the 3.0L - just listen to it!
@chappardababbar

@@lurntwubber interesting. I'm considering losing the torsion bars on mine. In two minds about it becuase it's something that make the car unique.
@lurntwubber

I think you need to ask what you are going to be using the 75 for, If i needed a track setup with more adjustment and easier swap-out then i would likely go for one of the coil-over-shock ("coilover") kits and the hooped upper arms, but by the time you have done that and re-enforced the top mount to take the full load of the front of the car, it's quite a way away from the original car if that is important to you.

I feel like every time i hear this story it changes, but the first does look to be Fiat, albeit a very early version of the idea. I've just purchased an identical car to this (a black 2.4 210 ti). The previous owner has had it mapped and dpf removed.
