I've never related to a youtube video this much in my freaking life. It should be a common courtesy and the naturally empathetic thing to do by being silent during a film!!! I once debated breaking up with an ex because she wouldn't stop using her apple watch in the theater. I'm glad someone else is as solemn about this as I am.

I remember coming across your video on Mamet as I happened to be reading a lot about playwriting. Fast foward a few months and we seem to sync up again: I've also been writing short plays and reading from Woody Allen's one act plays (hilarious and available on amazon) to Lorca. It's a bit uncanny how we seem to be evolving so similarly. Weird coincidence or maybe just a natural step. That being said, this was a very necessary video. I'm already looking forward to the next!

In high school my English teacher had us read the play of "To Kill a Mockingbird" instead of the book (Segel, Sorkin hadn't happened yet) and it was a great experience! I remember feeling so immersed in the story compared to my friends that read the novel
@deanpeter2on13 күн бұрын
I heard the Sorkin production was excellent.

"A Midsummer Night's Dream" was my gateway drug to Shakespeare. You can get lost in these plays. "Antony and Cleopatra," "King Lear," "Macbeth," and of course "Hamlet" are all required reading. I'm still not sure why high school English had us begin with "Julius Caesar" though. It wasn't my favorite.

Director Ingmar Bergman split his time between the theater and film throughout most of his career. He considered the theater his wife and film his mistress. I don't know what his theater productions were like, but his films are incredible, from all the many decades he made them.

Martin McDonagh is one of my favourite playwrights and filmmakers and if you compare and contrast his stage and screen work you get a really good sense of how it's the same voice adapted to different mediums, I'd recommend reading The Beauty Queen of Leenane by him if you haven't already. Other recs would be Ayad Akhtar's Disgraced, Sarah Kane's Blasted and Tim Crouch's My Arm

Martin McDonagh is such a good example.

YES! As soon as I saw your McDonagh shout-out I immediately thought of that play. I actually got to see a production of it this year. Knew nothing about it before hand, other than who wrote it, and it was absolutely wonderful.

Just got it , will use with Godox QR P90T ( the travel series thats not so deep dome) . Definitely be fine as Key for interviews with 90cm softbox. FYI , the foam cut out fits perfectly into a Vanguard VEO BIB S46 case . Which will fit into the s46 hard case they make .I just found this by luck in a camera shop.

@addistesfu2424Ай бұрын
Sorry for the Covid, and congratulations on the wedding. It frustrates me that the KZfaq filmmaking section is overrun by KZfaqrs instead of genuine filmmakers. Many of these KZfaqrs lack a true understanding of filmmaking, focusing more on the latest 8K mirrorless cameras rather than the fact that the script is the foundation of any film. Back in the 70s, films were made using 16mm film, which had limited visual quality, yet they still created impactful movies. It seems that KZfaqrs, who rely on shooting b-roll footage for their income, miss this fundamental aspect.

This is a great insight. I wrote my second screenplay "A Little Trouble in Hollywood" and was shopping it around Hollywood 3years back only to see the release of "Fall Guy" an almost carbon copy of my script. I was gutted. You have to let go of your good ideas for great ones. Amazing interview.

I do have a question. When she mentioned transitions like match cuts, I was always under the impression that transitions like that are directorial/editorial domain and are often looked down upon if done in scripts for that reason. Did she mean to like plant a match cut idea/imply a match cut, or to actually have “match cut” in the script?
@jzaneedwards4344Ай бұрын
I caught that too. I think you're on the right track with thinking it was more implied than laid out. I believe you're correct about that being an editorial decision.
@alternatecutsАй бұрын
Maybe screenplays are obsolete.
@Gyork_Ай бұрын
What do you propose instead?
@retlwizАй бұрын
Good to hear this, though while I agree that a script should be well-paced and the scenes have good transitions, to me a match cut or some such transitional device, like an insert or an establishing shot is the purview of the director, just like shot other choices. Anyway, it’s of secondary importance to pacing and story as a whole.
