Watching a number of these broken cable videos lead me to believe these are fatigue failures. Many flexes cause the cable to crack. Solution: engage the cable only once per day. If you come to a place where you would stop the blades from turning (loose rocks, etc.), just leave them turn and raise the deck to clear instead.

I just made 4 of these docks! I used 12’ 2x8s for the frame. The movable winch is genius engineering! They work great. I appreciate these videos with creative ideas. Nice job and thanks.

August 2024. Just bought a brand new one of the same model. NOTE: have a small torx driver handy. The screw on Steve’s junction box was Phillips head, but mine was torx. And I had to initially break it loose with a wrench to keep from stripping it.

It’s been 4 years. Has the freeze/thaw cycle moved anything?
@NashwaukSteve
@NashwaukSteve 6 күн бұрын
Good question! No, freeze thaw hasn’t touched the stairs at all. The only upkeep has been topping up the gravel on the treads. It slowly packs down and makes a low spot on the treads. I’m still very happy with these steps

I've been roofing for almost 50 years. First thing you should have read the instructions, should have at least 5" offset .You said you used 6" offset, looks like 3" at the top to me. Someone said you put your nails too close, that's because your joints are too close. You voided warranty. Actually, you vary with your joints. Those nails should be 1" from the end. That looks like a 5/12 pitch to me, easily walkable to me. I just roofed my house 7/12 and 9/12 pitch. I walked the 7/12 but used jacks on the 9/12. A little steep but I have seen people walk them. Would make me a little nervous if is 3 story. I hope you don't take this personal, you're a good guy for trying to help people. Maybe you should watch video and read instructions first and learn the safe way. This can be dangerous work. I have seen people fall more than once. Luckily nothing serious. There has been results of people dying from falling from roofs. I always say work smarter, not harder. But #1 is safety first.

Hi Steve. Great video but I have a question as I'm gearing up to do this exact project: I understand how your measure the rise of the slope to figure out how many stairs you need but you didn't really explain how to get the measurement for the tread portion of the steps. My project requires just 5 steps but it covers a distance of around 16'. Do I just divide 5 by 16 or is there some other method to figure that out. Hope it's not a dumb question. Thanks!
@NashwaukSteve
@NashwaukSteve 6 күн бұрын
Hello! Not a dumb question at all, and you are right on track. Once you know the number of stairs, you divide the total horizontal run by that number. So your 16’ run in inches is 192”. 192/5=38.4” so each tread will be 38.4 inches. In my case, I varies the tread length to match the hill better. If you did that, then your average tread would be 38.4 inches. Some would be more, some would be less. I hope that helps! Good luck- you got this!

My ice maker (some model newer version) is producing ice but making a repetitive clicking noise. I am thawing the fridge now, but heard it could be caused by mineral build up on some kind of ice shaping tray? Anyone run into this? I’m going to let it go and then shut it off later and see if the noises stop.

Are Attic trusses designed to expand and contract or can you connect an attic truss to a load and non-load bearing wall
@NashwaukSteve
@NashwaukSteve Ай бұрын
Good question! It is my understanding that they will move seasonally, so when attaching non-load bearing walls, I used truss clips. It’s little L-shaped bracket that is slotted where the truss attaches. This allows the truss to move while still keeping the wall below plumb. If you have a designed load bearing wall below your trusses, I think you could hard fasten that. Thanks for watching!

Another thing you should know about mine, when we turn the icemaker back on for the bottom icemaker it doesn’t make ice. It just makes a sheet of ice on the ice cube drawer . So I’m definitely getting water. And it’s possibly the fill valve.
