Thank you for the really good review. I have both, The 70-300 is better for travel or when you want to be lighter but the 100-400 is the best lens by a good margin. Not only for the 100mm extra reach, that allows you to be closer and have mode blurry background, but also the tripod collar makes a huge difference when using the tripod as its a much better balanced system. So for travel and the dayts I dont want to carry my main camera bag I use the 70-300. When I do want the absolute best IQ and experience with a Tripod (Landscape photography for example) I take the 100-400,.

i heard that for birds in flight on the a7rv it’s best to set it to “locked on” and to turn ON aps-c cropping. apparently when using aps-c cropping you got focus points covering the entire frame and it should perform much better

A really interesting review, especially for the surprising result on the AF score. I am asking around to see if others have found that performance improves over time through AI learning. I also wonder if it would be better with the Sony 100-400 G Master

This is a great video. I have the sony 200-600 and I am not sure I could cope with it being any heavier. 60mm at the widest is very very appealing though.

wish there was open gate video option + screen would flip out to film yourself like the sony a7rv. also really hope someday will get sigma art glass on nikon since i like the 85mm 1.4 sigma art and not the price of nikon 85mm 1.2

@MathieuGasquetMirrorLessons
@MathieuGasquetMirrorLessons 11 күн бұрын
It doesn't work for birds or animals, and the camera has the tendency sometimes of seeing (human) faces where there are none. If that happens, it will override the AF area you selected.

Full credit to Sony in making 4K video look like 1080p . I don’t think many people care as long as they have 2 card slots and a big grip and a full size HDMI and a sixty fps without a crop and dynamic range 15 stops and AI autofocus,nobody cares about the actual resolution or photos which is why we buy an expensive camera and lenses.

Currently have the R7 but I'm looking to upgrade for better iso performance. That battery difference is a dealbreaker. I have nearly 10 LP-E6/LP-E6N/LP-E6NH batteries from past cameras, many of them being the original canon part. I'm not willing to replace them all at $60 ea, so I'm thinking the R6 (only 20MP?), or more ideally the R5 (higher megapixel) would be the better direction to go. Why would they switch to a 1040mAh point-n-shoot battery in a full-frame camera? Just so they could fit a SD slot next to it?
@MathieuGasquetMirrorLessons
@MathieuGasquetMirrorLessons 13 күн бұрын
No, most likley because the body is smaller and it's roughly the same of the previous EOS RP camera, so fitting a larger battery would have force Canon to update the design somehow.

Thank you very mucho for the review. 2 years later, considering all the software updates releases, do you still thinking that the sigma is "the worse" of these 3 lenses? I was thinking about buying the sigma because of the 600mm focal, not considering the Tamron, but now I don't know what to do. Here in Spain, there is about 500e difference between the Sony (1560e) and the Sigma (1100e), being the Tamron the cheapest one at 1019e. What would you do looking this price difference? (Sony a7iii user) Thanks again!
@MathieuGasquetMirrorLessons
@MathieuGasquetMirrorLessons 13 күн бұрын
I haven't tested the Sigma with the latest firmware update, so can't comment on the improvements. The difference between 500mm and 600mm is not huge, so I would personally get the Tamron.

Same experience after serious testing inna all Sony system. That the AF system has the posssibility of a working setting somewhere in the menu, is not worth the effort in my opinion. Chances are the camera is in a different setting and the shot will be missed. It took a sitting - yes sitting - peacock to reach 30% succesrate. After changing the setting within 'bird', the peacock was gone. This implementation of AI needs some serious technical and user friendlyness firmware update(s) in to even come close to the hype, in my opinion.

Is still worth to get an used A7Riii with the sony 16-35mm f/2.8 (GM) both going together for 2k??? I’m trying to decide what’s going to be my first camera, and I want one hybrid camera that I could use for at least 5 years, and I will probably be using only this lens in the first 2 years so Idk if is a good choice. (The shutter count of the camera is 21,000)
@MathieuGasquetMirrorLessons
@MathieuGasquetMirrorLessons 23 күн бұрын
It really depends on what you are interested to do with your photography. The A7R III sensor is very good, even today and in 5 years, but the software, video, stabilisation and AF are definitely more outdated. If you're interested in landscape, architecture, general travel with the 16-35mm, it will be a great combo, especially for photography.
