I just love your beach themed journal. My sister's and I love the 🌴 beach 🐚 so much too 🍤....it is special/magical. I really like the soothing, relaxing colors. Looking through this, made me feel like I was traveling to the beach...love the maps and sea horses. When this came up on my phone feed...I was very excited to see this because of the beach theme. My sister and I are taking our oldest sister to the coast in October after her 6th round of chemotherapy (she was recently diagnosed with advanced stage ovarian cancer), so that we can all enjoy the sea/beach together again. Thank you so much, I truly enjoyed this video. From Delma in Texas ❤🤠❤

You are so very kind 💜 the beach is the place my soul feels most at peace and I was really going for those vibes when I made this. I hope your trip with your sisters is relaxing and full of glorious memories you will treasure forever. Prayers for your sister, she is lucky to have your love and support 🙏❤️😘

That was fun! I do have dies but I find them frustrating to use regularly. I have some paper dolls dies that I enjoy and my wee one likes those as well. I think they are, like you said, time consuming but they are cute in the right places and for small things so worth keeping around. Snoopy dies? Yes please! and I don't think it is strange to have a dog journal. In fact, I think my mom might enjoy one for her dog actually. Love the outline water color flowers. Adds a whimsical touch. I got a few rows finished on my current doily so thanks for keeping me company and inspiring my crafty brain. 😊

Thank you!!! And yes, love my dogs journal. I use it as a place to write down memories we make together and keep his hoards of pictures 😂 and yesss! I find making the die cuts a little exhausting but I love the way they look so I usually drag them out along with papers I want to use and mass cut them. I find that way to be at least a little more Efficient. And cheers!! Thanks so much for watching 💕

Oh my gosh! Y'know, I have all sorts of puzzle pieces (courtesy of the Dollar Tree and the thrift store) that I've done tiny assemblage art on, but it never occurred to me to do this! 🤦🤷 They're all in storage somewhere! Once I unpacked I'll be busy for a year with all the vids I've saved for later. ...seven layers of gesso? Wow! I use black for the ones I do and can get away with three at most, however YES! More layers is better, I totally agree. Have you seen the fire technique for removing the tissue paper? Would it work here? FIRE?!!? 😲 MK, are you CRAZY?? Uh, yeah!! 👍👍😁🙄🤭 I LOVE these on your spine or a few on the front cover of a journal threaded that way! You're so much fun - like hangin' out with my girlfriend - "...oh my GOSH!! I hafta show you this"!! Feel better soon! Hugs, MK 🤗 ❤️ 🤗 Oh! Lesson courtesy of me! I had a beautiful puzzle with deep red paper on the back of the pieces. When I got it wet with glue that red bled EVERYWHERE. I tried to paint over it but the paint just kept soaking in - what a mess it was!
@InkandPapyrus
@InkandPapyrus 29 күн бұрын
Well, get to work on all of those puzzle pieces sister 😂… they will reappear at some point! Fire technique?! Please do tell!!! Don’t leave me hanging! And I could be fun like a bad rash… But i’d like to think I could grow on you eventually 😂😂😂😘 And wow that sounds like a bloody mess. At that point, you just have to embrace the blood streaked appearance and find some thing to decorate it with that will complement the mess😅🤣 Happy Saturday!! 💕💕
@emmkaa2099

@InkandPapyrus The fire technique - I've used it decoupaging wood pieces and decorative metal sculptures (flowers and bees, things like that). You put tissue paper or the decorated layer of a napkin on the surface with mod podge or watered down glue, trim up the paper a little bit, not like crazy fussy cutting, then touch the rest with flame from a lighter. All that burns is the excess paper - it stops at the wood or the metal and leaves super clean edges. Certainly, the caveat here would be that the puzzle pieces are made of paper, so no flame throwers or torches, but I think a lighter might work.
@InkandPapyrus
@InkandPapyrus 28 күн бұрын
Ah fantastic!! I would love to try this, especially with the smaller pieces where it is really hard to get in those little grooves to sand/cut off the excess 🤗 this is either going to be really amazing or end up in a really good story for the nightly news. 😂🤣😂🤣🔥 Whelp, I’ve been warned!! 😘

Brittany, I perforate paper pretty much every time I emboss it, then if I try to FOLD it? Yeah - no! But watching you this morning (because I can solve YOUR problems but not my own) it occurred to me to use medical paper tape because it's so give-y, right? Not sure to put it on before we emboss (cuz that could be a lot of tape) or before we fold, 🤔🤔 but it might prevent the break in the paper. And, like you said as well, I've heard that dampening the paper first helps, but that didn't solve the folding thing problem, at least not for me. Look at you, tying knots with the hands of a SURGEON!! Oh, WAIT!! 🤭🤣🤣 Your itty bitty journals will make precious spine dangles, too! 🙌 Uh oh, I need gelatos, huh? With the water? What fun! Time to get up now. The guys upstairs are on their third round of something YUMMY on the BBQ for breakfast! BREAKFAST! Girl, I don't cook like that for dinner! ...EVER!!! Well, wait... There was that one time... 🤔🤔 No, nevermind, that wasn't me. 🙄🤭
@InkandPapyrus
@InkandPapyrus Ай бұрын
I am SO trying this!! I also did some research and some people have said putting a piece of thin paper under the cardstock in the embossing folder helps prevent cracking.... I still have yet to try this, but I definitely am next time I pull my machine out! (especially for the vellum which also seems to crack on me). and I have plenty of other problems too... could you get started on those for me too?! HAHAHA. You're the best. And yes, I love love love my gelatos. One of those things I often forget about... I need to use them more often!! And as for me, I'd eat BBQ for breakfast.... I'd eat just about anything for any meal... as long as I'm not the one having to cook hahaha! :) xo

WAIT!!! For your journal cover!! You need bubbles for your submarine windows (it's not called a submarine "window", is it?). Something from work somewhere... all I can come up with at this point is the covers of the little single-serve salad dressing or salsa containers from the kitchen, but those are too smushy and not round like a sub window. Something harder - firmer- and more spherical. "...accident victims extricated from cars faster..." ROFLMFAO!! 12 YEARS I worked in the field girl!! I felt that one!! I'm DYIN' here!! And time with you is NOT wasted time!! We just did some SERIOUS BONDING over that trauma victim! Running a die cut thru twice is something I just kinda DO, AND I found a metal plate on Temu that hasn't let me down yet. A buck 50, I think. I had been just adding one side of a cereal box to my sandwich, but I guess it had too much give - the metal sheet is IT! Snoopy Dogg DOGG!! ❤🐶❤🐶❤ Was the first "what is this" thing when you were unbagging Snoopy and Woodstock Snoopy's nose leather? I saw it very fast. I've learned the hard way to take screenshots of the dies put together on the websites - especially the chea... uh... "less expensive " ones, cuz they don't pack a CLUE as to how to put them together. LOL, and you JUST said what I just typed. My die cutting machine is about 10' off the foot of my bed here at the airbnb, HOWEVER 😢 my dies are buried in one of three storage units. Didn't think THAT thru, now did I? No ma'am, no, I did NOT! SPECIMEN SLIDE WINDOWED BOOK!! I just love you! Thanks for sharing Friday evening with me. Hugs from Indiana 🤗❤️🤗, MK OH! Do you have fireflies out there??? Brittany, they're really REAL!! There's a lake in my back yard - serious as a heart attack - and there are FIREFLIES in the evenings! 😂😂
@InkandPapyrus

Boy do I love you. How do you always make me laugh so hard!!!!???? ok here's the deal (you're so entertaining and so amazing I have to address each of these).... submarine windows.... I actually think a single serve salad container would work brilliantly! Or... I found some clear acrylic buttons on amazon... they are meant to have paper decorated and placed inside of them. I'm sure i could mount them to the inside part of the cover somehow and put some ocean themed stuff in them :) And yes, everything you said about bonding over extrications was spot on LMAO I will look for that metal sheet, THANK YOU! As for that little die cut, yes, I think that ended up being one of their noses... well that's how I ended up using it at least LOL!! I hope you're not going through withdrawal not having your dies.... I'm so bad, I would definitely use this as an excuse to buy a bunch of new ones off Temu or Ali Express... come to think, maybe this is why I can never see the floor of my office. (I'm such a bad influence)!!! Specimen slide window book!!! I'm so glad you repeated that back. That idea already went in one ear and out the other. Hold that thought... I'm going to go write this down, NOW :) We do have some fireflies.... dragon flies too right now. Enjoy the show while you're lake side. You are such a joy xoxoxo -B

Scoooore!!! 🙌 Brittany, girl! NICE!! I think you have yourself a bag of paper quilling supplies (the first clear bag you pulled from the second black bag). What you're calling streamers is paper cut to the right size for quilling, and that form thingy you were talking about using for shaping something - was it wax seals? ...sorry, I'm too tired to be doing this, but I HAD to see what you found. That'll help the quilled paper retain its shape. 'course this is all speculation on my part, cuz I bought a paper quilling kit right before we moved and promptly packed it up, but what you have there looks very similar to what was in the box. Oh my GOSH! The whales and dolphins coloring book is PERFECT for you! I love the tracing paper idea cuz, like you, I hate the thought of only being able to use an image once. Truth be told 🤫, I'm not always as scrupulous 😔. Mod Podge Paper - never heard of it! It sounds like a good thing to have in my arsenal, right? Isn't it funny that we - well, *I* - will work really, really hard to get one particular element on a page to shine like glass and then do everything we can think of to dull a different piece down so its finish is flat as... as flat as... uhh... something that's really flat! Like a pancake! A pancake has a flat finish if you think about it. Until you put butter 🧈 and syrup on it 🥞, then it can get rather shiny... 🧐 ...until it all starts to soak in 🤔🤔. 🤤 Hang on, I'll be back - I hafta run into the kitchen... 🍽️🥞🥞😋😋❤😁 The Dire Straits book is a score indeed! The music book from '75 was it? LOL, yeah, I was around in '75 as well and am quite brittle in places! Maybe I should try Mod Podge-ing ME! And the "Teaching Little Fingers to Play" book looks EXACTLY like the one I had in the '60's! 😲 Certificate from 1966! See!! Told ya!! 🙌 NICE! Driving through my new area over the last few days I have seen more thrift stores than I honestly think I've EVER seen before! I'm in an Airbnb until I can close on a house, so I can't really be buying stuff right now, but GURRL!! Just WAIT! I actually had to go to a Goodwill earlier today because I only kept one pair of pants (as opposed to shorts) out of storage - I needed a couple more pairs of jeans and buying them was easier than trying to find ONE bag in and amongst any one of three storage units! Oh the things I saw!! It's 3:24 on Saturday morning - I can't say I'm still on California time and I don't think I'm on Indiana time yet - I seem to be on "this is an exciting time of my life" time. I'm gonna try to nap before we go check out the local Saturday Farmers Market! This place is "home" already! Have an excellent weekend! TYFS your haul! Hugs, sweetie, MK 🤗❤️🤗

Is that what that is!????? Genius!! And yes, I was going to try making wax seals but now that I know what it's for, maybe I'll try it!! Thank you!! This is what happens when you pick something up without it's original packaging 😅😂 And yes, I was THRILLED with the coloring book :) Flat like a pancake 🤣And I think i mispoke because I too have never heard of MP paper 😂 I probably meant to say "Mod Podge on your paper" or something like that. It's entirely possible I was slurring my words. I'm sorry to all the good folks out there currently searching high and low for Mod Podge paper on Amazon... whooops. I also had a teaching little fingers to play btw... it must be a classic!! :) And oh my gosh, you don't say? I'm so jealous!! Here in NC we have a couple of thrifts/cosignments near me but as far as I know only one really carries stuff other than furniture and clothes :/ On the other hand maybe it's better that way... otherwise I don't know that I'd be able to open the door to my office 😅 Here's to hoping you get settled in quickly. Changes always take time. I'm glad tho you're trying to do this transition in the summer and not winter... bahhh🥶 Anywho, thinking of you and hoping you're having a great weekend and enjoying your new HOME 🥰

Uh oh- I hope I didn't scare you entirely! As you saw I was not so pleased with the embossing situation. The die cutting feature on the other hand is pretty spectacular and I have been die cutting away. I found really inexpensive dies on AliExpress, bulk die cut (mass made, whatever you call it :) and have been adding them to all kinds of projects. I would say it depends on what you want to use it for. I would also like to do some research and see what other people have to say about other brands of embossing/cutting machines... anyways, good luck to you on whatever you decide and I hope you find something you can enjoy crafting with :)

You need to mist the paper with water before running 3D embossing folder through. I would suggest you watch some videos that will help with your sandwich. Sizzix is a good machine.

Thanks so much for the suggestion! I have noticed that misting the paper helps a lot, especially with the 3-D embossing folders. As for the sandwich, I ordered another plate and I’m hoping I can finally get it right…. As for the die cutting features of the machine I couldn’t be more thrilled and have been mass die cutting…. I use them in so many of my projects, I don’t know how I ever lived without it 😄

😯 ...your dive knife 🔪 in your carry-on? Yeah baby, NO! You ARE lucky you didn't wind up in jail! 😬🤦🙄 🤭 Oh sure, it's funny NOW... 😞 I decoupage napkins too! This past January I flew to Indiana to double- and triple-check that I wanted to move there (I DO! We're driving away from here on May 31st) and I was given a napkin that said "United Airlines - teaching napkins to fly". Thought it was cute, so I snagged it! OK, STOP with the sparkly playing cards!! If THEY don't scream snorkeling under crystal clear water, IDK what does! **chef's kiss** "...that was just a shark 🦈 swimming by..." How nice 🙂. Wait, 🤔 WHATT? 😲😲 Girl! 😬. STOP 🛑 🛑 6,000' drop off?!!!? Holy moly, that's CRAZY!! I love factual stuff like that in my journals too! Nerdy people unite! 🙌😂🤣🤗 NICE JOB with the Cayman currency! ... brilliant! Honey, this journal is glorious - truly a keepsake to be treasured! TYFS! Yes, leaving is the saddest part. 😢 OK, now, spill your guts! I gotta know - you are, like, CRAZY INTELLIGENT! 🧐😜🤪 🙂‍↕️ ...and don't get shy with me! What kind of work do you do? The last time we talked you mentioned that you work nights. ...perhaps you're in the medical field? I was for most of my working life, emergency medicine and then emergency services. Goodness knows medical emergencies don't just happen Monday thru Friday with two hours off for lunch! C'mon girl, spill it! What do the kids say now? "...give me the tea"? Yes, by all means, I'd LOVE some tea! 🤦🤷🤭 Again, this is a gorgeous documentary on your vacation - TYFS! Love and hugs, MK 🤗 ❤️ 🌵 ❤️ 🤗

MK!!! Good news!! I escaped the slammer somehow 😂😅 And omg has anyone ever told you that your comments are more entertaining than the actual videos? If not, they should have because it’s true!!! 😘😂 I love decoupaging with napkins so much. I resent the fact that you have to pay like $2 for each individual pretty one online so I’ve found a way to print them, yes print onto plain napkins and tissue paper and decoupage that way. You just have to be careful that it is taped and secured really well to the printer paper so that you don’t jam up your machine. I love it so much. Video to come on that soon 😊 Anywho, I’ll never stop with the sparkly playing cards 😂 And ok, ok, guilty I am in medicine. Smart… or stupid for not getting a business degree long ago hahaha! God bless. I appreciate the heck out of our frontline workers. My job is more of a Cush “controlled chaos job”. I’m a PA… and yes, regardless of what some may think, emergencies can and will happen after business hours…. Even if the hospitals refuse to staff to reflect that 😳 don’t get me started… Anywhose, thanks for brightening my day as always ❤️😘 Brittany

I just finished watching this video and I was inspired to go fetch the shopping bag of ephemera I collected when my husband and I went to Savannah, GA...2 YEARS ago!!! I have not touched it in 2 years. And although it was not our favorite vacation, we did have a good time and I even bought a blank journal from the SCADS store. Looking through it all I have tickets, menus, postcards, business cards from various things, stickers from the students of SCAD, note cards, a note card from the B&B we stayed at, and all the pages of things I wrote down for our itinerary. I am getting excited to do something with it all now. Gotta go look for your mentioned videos. Thanks so much for the inspiration!

Yay!!!! 👏 that makes me sooo happy!! I’d be lying if I said I didn’t still have some trips and events I still have to do.. it happens to the best of us 😝 And it sounds like you have plenty to create something awesome. I always tell myself I can make the journal a multi trip/multi event journal if need be to take the pressure of filling it up, off :) And remember, if you feel like you don’t have enough ephemera/images, you can always go online to print stuff out (images, information about places you visited, menus, etc.). That’s what I did recently when I visited a desolate place where it was hard to collect ephemera. Anywho, this made my day. Happy journaling 😊

This is darling! What type of sewing needle did you use in your sewing machine to go through the book? The strongest needle I have is for jeans and don’t know if that would be strong enough. Thank you so much for sharing this tutorial! 🌸🐰🌸

Thank you so much 😊 and I am no seamstress by any stretch (if it isn’t already obvious 😅🤣). I have a brother and I believe the needle I used in the video was either a 90/14 or 100/16. If you have needles that were made for “denim”, you probably have one of those as well. Not going to lie, my machine struggled at times and I had a couple of skipped stitches but all and all it worked ok. The LGB cover is on the thinner side compared with other covers and that’s why I think I made out ok. Any thicker and I don’t think I would have made it. I do like to sew my covers and I’ve been meaning to get some thicker needles specifically for that (110/18) which I think would work better. Here’s a link to a graphic I refer to sometimes with fabric and recommended size needle- of course nothing is guaranteed when you’re sewing a cover lol i.pinimg.com/originals/25/19/5c/25195c21b9636e5add6f069b47e08560.jpg One more thing I thought I would mention- if I want the look of “sewn fabric” on a really thick cover that I know won’t make it through the sewing machine, I will measure and cut 2 pieces of cardstock to be the exact size of the front and back cover. Then I’ll lay a piece fabric on the cardstock that hangs over on 3 edges and sew it down to the card stock. Then I glue the sewn cardstock to either the front or back cover- the side where there is no fabric overhang gets glued to the side closest to the spine. Once the cardstock is glued, I fold over the fabric overhang and glue to the inside cover. I hope that makes sense. Hard to explain in text, but I think it works great to secure fabric to a book and get a “sewn look” even if the cover is way too thick to get through the sewing machine. I hope this helps!

Paper sizes. Options.... there is printer paper in. 14 x 17. You fold that size in half becomes standard size. 8.5 x 11. You could get a roll of paper of choice. At walmart. Kraft color, white, etc.

Love it. Thanks! I will take a look around Walmart next time I am there! That would’ve helped. I don’t think I realized how large of a book I was going to create until I was knee-deep and woefully unprepared 😅

...know what's ironic? I did this when I started JJ'ing about seven years ago but stopped at some point. IDK if I thought I'd remember (LOL, yeah, right!!) or what, but I came across that book a few months ago and was, like, 🤦🤷!! Need t'fire that rascal up again. It had step-by-step instructions, measurements, I even left the "fails" in! Good idea and heck yeah to the HUGE spine! 🙌🙌

Hahaha YES!!! 🙌 thanks for the laugh… that is so me… if you go back and pick up projects you started 7 years ago, I will too! 😂🙄 Why the heck not, right?! And when I realized how big that spine actually was, I was like “crap, that is one heck of a commitment right there” 😲 Well hey, fire that bad boy back up and start cranking out ideas 😁
