This is a useful test which confirms that some difference still exists between a modelling amp and the real thing. Spark Amp is a fantastic piece of rig, with dozens of iconic amp simulations plus dozen of effects plus a fantastic app and connection possibilities. Something offering incredible opportunities with credible sound tones. A tube amp needs no justifications: it is the sound of rock/blues and all the music we love. No need to choose: both can exist in our music arsenal mostly when budget items produce great sound

To stay in the theme, it would have been interesting to use 70's twelve strings guitars. Guild of course, Martin or lbanez.. . The 12 strings Taylor has a very contemporary sound.

Given that it has a built in pickup, why were you using a Dean Markley at 0:52?

@dandixon7 at the time I recorded it I was just getting into Mike Dawes style percussive fingerstyle and was experimenting with different pickups and combinations. Used the es1, woody, and 2 small diaphragm on that one. Ultimately I settled on a baggs multiple mic system although I assure you I would need that and another 50 years to sound even remotely like Mike Dawes. :) thanks for checking out the video I do appreciate your time very much. I hope you enjoy the rest of your week . Take care and be well. Mark

I just picked up a 12 string DOT (dot on shaft) guitar on a trade.I never had a 12 string .Just thought I would trade it for something else. But i really like it and it opens up so many songs. It's a Rickenbacker knock off, it's really well done . Low easy action ,tunes good comfortable to play. The Canadian company did stay in business long. Can't even find a picture of one on the internet.

Light pick for sure! I also found for electric I like flatwounds, The main string don't overpower the octave strings. They really made it sound balanced.

Great video. Firstly - good God this man has a lot of different 12 String guitars. Secondly - worth checking out Damn Good by David Lee Roth - a great 12 String part played by Steve Vai.

Great list. I would have included Beginnings by Chicago. Terry Katy’s 12-string part is beautiful. I was going to say Norwegian Wood but it had a sitar and not a 12-string although it’s often covered as a 12-string. Love the channel!

Just now picked up an electric 12, right away I noticed that my usual heavy picks were just not likely to work out. So seeing that tip about the picks was good to hear. I knew I kept a bunch of assorted picks around.

What makes the music of the sixties so great, was really that the effort put into the song were tremendous compared to nowadays madeinahurry productions, with one line lyrics repeated 50 times and without any melodic value. Some songs developed over years, undtill they were perfect. Then performers were not just a concept with models with nice legs and a short skirt, chosen only out of looks, complete lacking musical talent. The beatles were just four talented friends, who learned to sing in tune and play well together, while writing hundreds of melodic evergreens, during some 10 years of touring 3 shows a day. They didnt have backstage vocal support, eletronic drum machines or autotune tech for correcting bad performance and out of tune vocals. They were real musicians. They were autentic.

I agree that the 12-string has a much richer sound. You were obviously trying to push this, as your last original song has some reverb on your voice. But nonetheless, you sold me, and I just bought a 12-string. Thank you for this video.

If you could copyright chord progressions, 90% of pop music would be lawsuit material. Every blues song, every 1-6-2-5 from the 50s, every 1-5-6-4 from the last 20 years.

Good thing about this guitar is that it is loaded with alnico instead of ceramic pickups that most guitars at this price range have. Well, I will consider subscribing if you actually do more music contents say like backing tracks or songs.

Hey Gary. I've done about 100 different videos on the 12-string specifically. When I did my first 12-string video about 5 years ago I remember making a list of all of the 12-string songs I could think of. There were 67 songs on the list and I thought I was being incredibly comprehensive. To date, I've performed over 150 12-string songs on the channel and I believe that's only scratching the surface. I'm so glad you enjoyed the video. I hope you have a great week. Please take care and be well. Mark
