Today I was joined by my friend @dimik_g to explore the Green Bridge (also known as Bangkok's Green Mile since it is exactly a mile long) which connects the Lumphini Park to the Benjakitti Park, while traversing whole neighborhoods and large highways. We started our journey at the Benjakitti Park near Asok and slowly made it to the Lumphini Park just to stumble upon an amazing concert by the Royal Bangkok Symphony Orchestra. You never know what to expect in Bangkok, which makes it always worth to get out to find the unexpected pleasures this city has to offer!

Lumpini Park is the first public park in Thailand built about 100 years ago. King Rama VI donated land at the outskirt of Bangkok to construct the park. The King used to be educated in a boarding school in England as a prince for several years and thus Lumpini Park was an attempt to emulate Hyde Park in England. Lumpini Park is the favorite park for people to exercise in the morning and evening. The park is world famous for its many monitor lizards, some are as long as 2-3 meters. Monitor lizard lives in the park's pond for decades. It has no predator so the park is the heaven for them. In the past, Lumpini Park was the venue for ballroom dancers in the evening. There was live band there playing ballroom music for dancers. The practice was abandoned several decades ago. In its place for the last 31 years is the annual Concert in the Park event held from January to March on Sunday for 10 weeks. It is performed by Royal Bangkok Symphony Orchestra playing classic music and some modern tunes and usually feature some singers as well. The music even starts around 17.30 till 20.00. Nearby is Benjakitti Park which is connected to Lumpini Park via Green Skywalk. Benjakitti Park and its new extension (Forest Park) land used to house factories of Thailand Tobacco Monopoly. The factories were relocated to a remote province decades ago. Both Lumpini and Benjakitti parks are favorite for Thais and expats to relax, biking or walking in the morning and evening. Biking is allowed in Lumpini park from 10.00-16.00. Other times are allocated to walkers and runners. Biking is allowed in all hours at Forest Park due to its dedicated bike lanes. The sculpture in Benjakitti Park is Prathumchart or literally Lotus Species. Lotus is the symbol of Buddhism and Thais bring lotus to the temple as merit offering. There is an annual event at the end of Buddhis Lent in October at Wat Yai Bang Pli to float a decorated boat to receive throwing lotuses along the canal.

@@kryme6000the Park will receive a complete modernization facelift for the 100 years celebration, but the project was put forward by the previous Govt. So, idk if the project will still be implemented.

Another park in Bangkok that is currently under construction and plans to open within this year is called "King Rama IX Park" or "Nang Loeng Public Park" is an improvement from the old racecourse area to a public park. The Bangkok Symphony's concerts in Lumpini Park will be held every Sunday from 5:30 p.m. to around 8:30 p.m. until March 10. Farang in Thai also means guava. A variety of guavas is called Farang Khinok (Khinok means bird's poop). Farang Khinok is also used as a pun referring to a bad foreigner, that is, good Farang is just "Farang" and bad Farang is "Farang Khinok" which means bad-tempered/herpercritical/cynical/rude/racist/obscene Farang. ขี้นก (Khi Nok = bird's poop) is a phrase differs from ขี้งก (Khi Ngok = stingy). The sounds of "Ng" and just "N" as a leading letter have the same difference of them as ending letters such as in the sounds "pin" and "ping". There's no vocab in English nor German with leading "Ng", thus an attempt to explain is that you pronounce the leading "Ng" like it's a "G" but add a nasal tone to it.

Suddenly, she bumped into you and asked if you knew the meaning of 'Khee Nok'-which means bird poop-just to be friendly. This kind of gesture is quite common among Thais. If a Thai person randomly approaches you with a question, it's often a sign of greeting and a way to show Thai hospitality through a short chat. Note that 'Khee Nok' means bird poop, which is different from 'Khee Ngok,' meaning stingy. Overall, both girls were just trying to be friendly and show their hospitality, not to use insulting words.

Yes it was weekly for a while, I think it’s always in February and March, I’d recommend checking the orchestras website^^ was definitely a cool experience!

stingy is ขี้งก and ฝรั่งขี้นก isn't stingy farang. The phrase originally is a pejorative for a Thai person who acts like a white person, but now it's misunderstood to refer to the backpackers and digital nomads kind. The word literally is a variety of guava (farang in Thai), and it's supposed to say that the person is just this variety of guava, but will never be a real guava (farang).
