big ups on this video, others who say you need to remove the intake manifold are dead wrong and just overcomplicating things. fuck bud i had to use a spanner and the job still only took half an hour

Btw....the 3/8 angled swivel ratchet from harbor freight, with a shallow 6 pt Pittsburgh impact socket also from HF worked pretty damn good.

I changed the knock sensor ... On a 2009 Toyota Corolla... Started by removing the sensor . From the bottom . Took me 2 h 45 min... To remove the sensor... And when I went to install the new sensor... There was not enough room... And I had to remove the intake manifold just the same....cmn

pull and clean connectors before removing sensor, chances are it's just the connection
@BuckeyeBallistics5 жыл бұрын
Actually with 250,000 miles on it, chances are it's the sesor. But yes, sometimes it can be the connection/wiring, bad ground, or even a dirty sensor.

Great video but would it have been easier if you removed the starter first?
@BuckeyeBallistics2 жыл бұрын
I replaced the starter on this thing prior, and if I remember correctly it was a real pain to get the starter out. But that depends on if you are working on an XRS car or not like ours, because a lot of the components are easier to remove on the base engine models. Feel free to watch the starter video in my Corolla XRS playlist on the channel...

2yrs late but i have to ask, is that thing also called crankshaft position sensor? or it is different? thanks!
@BuckeyeBallistics3 жыл бұрын
No, it is different. It is literally the knock sensor, which means it detects if there is "detonation" in the cylinders, i.e. "knock." The cam sensor reads the *position* of the camshaft, which tells the computer when to fire the spark plugs.

@@BuckeyeBallistics thanks! i did a little research too, ill just change both of them 👌

So how do you know that the knock sensor is doing its job and reporting something wrong? Assuming code P0325 code.
@BuckeyeBallistics4 жыл бұрын
I don't understand what you're asking. We had performance issues with the car and the code, so we replaced the sensor.
@AmeriFanPicker4 жыл бұрын
Ok. Now i know that that the p0325 code is specifically for the sensor. Initially I thought it was the sensor reporting a knock etc. The performance issues come because the sensor tells a computer to adjust a retard timing etc. Thanks. Going to be tackling this today.
@BuckeyeBallistics4 жыл бұрын
When the sensor is working correctly, it tells the computer if it senses knock. When this occurs, the computer adjusts timing accordingly to avoid knock. As long as the knock is mild enough, it can happen without you ever feeling it and without throwing a code or check engine light. When the sensors start to fail they can report false knock and the computer will adjust timing incorrectly due to the incorrect information, causing performance issues. Or sometimes as a fail safe, the car might just go into limp mode (reduced power) if it knows the sensor isn't working correctly until the issue is resolved.

any idea where it would be located on a 2010 corolla base model? looked literally everywhere

No but if you google "2010 Corolla knock sensor location" I'm sure you will find the answer...

@@BuckeyeBallistics that's why I asked here, Google doesn't like my car it seems

It's under your intake manifold on the block, literally took me 2 minutes to find this on google. Future reference, scroll through "images" next time. workshop-manuals.com/toyota/corolla/l4-1.8l_%282zr-fe%29/sensors_and_switches/sensors_and_switches_powertrain_management/sensors_and_switches_computers_and_control_systems/camshaft_position_sensor/component_information/locations/

What the hells a knock sensor?
@BuckeyeBallistics3 жыл бұрын
Knock/detonation. When the air and fuel mixture ignites prematurely, it causes "knock," which is the piston slamming into the explosion as it is still comming up (the piston), instead of the explosion pushing the piston down as intended. If knock occurs, the computer pulls timing to protect the engine, thanks to the knock sensor telling it to.
@pellergin4 жыл бұрын
You're better off detaching the intake manifold, to reach the sensor.
@BuckeyeBallistics4 жыл бұрын
Yeah this car is a nightmare to work on. You have to drop the whole subframe just to get the exhaust manifold out, for example. But I managed to get it out the top by removing the valve cover; well worth the gasket replacement.
@pellergin4 жыл бұрын
@@BuckeyeBallistics I'd also like to add, that if the intake manifold is loosened and moved to reach the sensor, one of the hoses that directly connects to it, will likely loosen. This hose between the engine block and the intake manifold. Also brake vacuum hose may loosen, resulting in sluggish braking performance.

My engine light illuminated and when I plug it in to OBD scanner it gave me and error saying “knock sensor bank1 circuit low” Did your engine light illuminated as well when your sensor failed?
@BuckeyeBallistics4 жыл бұрын
Yes, and we also had pretty bad reduction of power as well, but you may or may not experience a loss of power.

I will be doing the same thing on my Corolla. Thanks man
