So, nice video. Very clear and easy to follow. Here's a few tips I have learned in my 20 some years of layout building. 1st off, don't use the Xuron track cutters for K&S wire. The wire is very hard and will leave divots in the cutters. Xuron makes a blue handled cutter for the piano wire. 2nd, track on wood is always the last option. Blue or Pink insulation foam is the best as you can carve into it and do under-the-track things with it easier. 3rd, and since you are adding this after the track has already been installed, this is kind of difficult to do, but if using Peco switches and you want to use the Caboose Ground Throws, (CGT), maybe look into removing the pressure spring under the points. The CGT has the pressure needed to hold the switch against the stock rails. 4th, when installing the CGT, you want to have the points in the middle of the track, so not completely thrown either one direction or the other. Also have the CGT handle straight up in the air, making it centered also. Then do the install with everything centered. The reasoning behind this is because the CGT has a spring loaded rotator built in, to allow for different manufacturer's tolerances in the point rails travel distance when being thrown. When you install everything at center, the CGT will apply pressure to the points equally regardless of which way they are thrown. If you didn't install an Atlas switch at center, there wouldn't be enough pressure on the points in one direction and a gap could form between the stock and point rails, which would cause a switch to be "picked," and chaos could ensue with the train. Just a few things that jumped out at me.

Looking at this as will have to move some points across the other side of a layout. Thought of using wire coat hangers and then wires attached to them and then to the points..

Great video, thanks! Question for you ... have you ever mixed Atlas sectional code 83 track with Peco switches? If so, does it match up ok?

Excellent Video , In Poland the old type switches that still exist in rural areas have a wire setup.Your project looks awesome very realistic and I just wanted to ask , where can I purchase the tubingthat you are using to run the wire through ! It is just perfect !

When I install these I centre the switch rail so that it is not throw on either side and centre the ground throw... with the lever up. Then I glue the caboose throw in place. This way I am sure the switch rails will go either side with equal pressure.

That was a great video! can you make one like this where you use a solinoid to pull the throws and then address it to your DCC comand center? I would like to make mine remote like this but have no clue where you get the gear to do this or what is needed Thanks!

Thanks for the video. Why was the throw chosen to mount at the table edge rather than atop the 2 long ties directly on the side of the turnout?
@Nerfball68 жыл бұрын
I believe that he said that there was going to be overhead wires installed that would be in the way and make it hard to get to them if they were mounted on the side of the switch.
@g.stephens2633 жыл бұрын
I paint one side of the handle red, and the other green to keep track which way the turnout is thrown.

Excellent solution for manual transmission for deviations (HO, N, etc ... You can tell me, where you bought this (I think it is a system based on the excenter). Anyway this is what for me is the best system. If you can tell me ,where to buy it? If it's not secret. Thanks so much.

Instead of Nails on the Caboose Switch why not mark pilot Drill and put 2 short screws that way if need to move or if the Switch breaks it's easy unscrew and remove the Switch.. Thinking about getting some of this Track and the switches they look pretty sharp Thanks for sharing the Video..

Using your rail cutter to cut the steel will ruin them for cutting rail, get a pair of steel wire cutters. The rest is a great vid on how to.
