As always there has been a big effort put into the stereo audio on this volume, you will get the best effect either on good headphones or through a well placed and quality stereo and speaker system.
I have been trying this year to find new angles and techiques to keep it interesting for myself, and others. There are many clips now that are virtually a sound track I like which has longer lead in and out, then the video is added. Some may find it boring, but so is standing out in the weather waiting for trains to come and watching them go into the distance........(comments sought).
MikeRail UHD Volume 09 begins mid winter 2022 with a longer than usual opening title shot of 200 at Milson from track level. Then a couple of shots of the Winter visit of GVR 1254 and the Gorge Explorer trains in Palmerston North and Te Apiti. Some of these shots were hand held and testing my Sony AX53 active stabilization.
Bunnythorpe sees a passenger and 234 freight in high winds. Next is Linton with refurbished 5120 testing but unfortunately it was running second loco, but the sound was okay.
In horrible wet and windy weather at Marton again 200 and 234 pass NB through the junction. A long 391T at Bunnythorpe dip with re-instated EF's heading up after being pulled back into service owing to loco shortage we are told, then followed by 201 near Taonui later in the day.
Milson junction for a freight to Taranaki followed by 200. Patikipapa Rd for a short lightweight 234 then back to Halcombe to try a new location, again in high winds.
Milk train off to Taranaki followed by Ja1274 transferring to Palmerston North from Ohakune for some passenger runs in the area, viewed from Bunnythorpe and followed days later by 234 and EF headed 391 yet again in high winds.
North of Maewa in fine weather for a change a pair of freights, one each way.
Just north of Palmerston North and Milson junction for an afternoon of trains. Five freights and 201 and again in strong wind that had the overheads howling most the afternoon, both the rail overheads and an high voltage AC line just beyond the tracks howling louder as the winds increased during the three hour stay.
A second visit to Patikipapa Road in misty rain that slowly got heavier as time went by, first a Work Train returning to Palmerston North and a while later shots of recently completed refurbished 30163 test running north, 200, 391 with EF's and a heavy 234.
Finally in late morning EF powered 391 rolls into Milson junction with regenerative braking. The afternoon was to bring a nice surprise for me which will feature in Volume 10.....
