I have a couple of videos if you want them or know someone who does. It's not trains but it's the promo vid for first media (cable) TV and a vid of new year's TV on 31st Dec 1999

I spent untold hours on the sound track in these volumes, this one is still way below par for what I would expect but there is lots of improvements in most scenes 😴

Thank you for these videos. I can remember the Dbr class locos out on the main line and operating down on the West Coast.

I'm loving these videos, especially the telephoto shots. I'm also very impressed how Mr ? can get from certain scenes to the next one so quick . Although years ago when these trains rain there were speed restrictions on trains going through the Paekok to Pukerua Bay tunnels....But still...😄
@MikeRail28 күн бұрын
Careful planning and lots of luck. I did a few paces in the late 80's with my son videoing on the ECMT and Kinleith Branch. Traffic was much lighter those times but even so it only took one slow road vehicle to wreck the best plans !

Love seeing these memories of how rail was.....just wondering if you’ve got anything of the Gracefield branch in action?

I will ask but doubt it Gareth, the guy tended to follow the Twins initially and chased trains out of Wellington north to about Otaki and back.... I will put up everything I can and you may see something I dont know accurately.... Regards Mike😌😀

I swapped some of my early vids from that era with Dave Allen who was a keen rail enthusiast back then. Once I get this set done and tapes from two other families I will take a look at it. It was still in the horrible VHS times and most vidcams were terrible.... But still its history. Regards Mike

Thanks Peter, spent a year here in 2003, went back to my homeland in the Eastern Waikato for some years but came back to Palmy 8yrs ago. Have enjoyed the video captures I have made and have met a number of Palmy and Wellington drivers while out and about. I do it for my own pleasure and to add something useful on YT for history and the locals. Enjoy your retirement in Feilding. One of my favorite areas is from there to Halcombe. Every few metres there is another site to trial new camera angles....... 🤠

Yep I was just a few years too late to get the Db class. My very first day out with a hired VHS cam I caught a Db helper behind a Dc on the ECMT at Morrinsville but that was very tame, just shunting. We are very lucky to have these videos from Gordon and Jeff, more to come as I work through their tapes.... Have sent you a PM with more info 😀

@MikeRail Жыл бұрын
Yep my sons used to stay there with one of their grandfathers in the late 70s, they where mainly Da's and the kids found the big high flat noise a bit scary as they roared by ! It was a great camp ground for fishermen as I recall..... yep the Da's would have been audible for miles on a clear still night.....
@Waikatotek Жыл бұрын
DB sound! Probably what the Athenree gorge sounded like.
@MikeRail Жыл бұрын
Yes similar. I saw single and double Enlish Electric Ef's in the Karangahake gorges, pairs and more of Db's and Di's in the gorges and also at the Waimata end as well. Lots of 88 seater railcars and things I can't classify now as I was a bit young and not a train follower way back in the 50's and 60's. Lots of other trains around Te Aroha area where I grew up as well. The big freights with pairs of Db's or Di's were a sound and sight to remember though as they really fought to make the top of that grade into Waimata 😎
@Waikatotek Жыл бұрын
@@MikeRail A shame there’s little videos of the former ECMT, only seen brief snippets with no sound. I grew up around Thames and the general area unfortunately too young to see working trains on the old ECMT and we didn’t go near the demolition trains either.
@MikeRail Жыл бұрын
Waikatotek, I dont know of any videos of the Karangahake or Athenree gorges but I do have some 8mm silent film that I hope I can convert in due course, its massively expensive. Step 2 after that would be to pick some of the best shots and "manufacture" some sounds which would liven it up for more realism. Hope I dont run out of time..... Cheers Mike
