Great video Dan! After 19 years of living and traveling aboard, my wife and I sometimes forget just how great we have it. Something to think about, however, is that despite the fact that we all have a dark shadow, none of us needs to kill in order to feel alive. I have heard you mention it before how dead all the reefs are in the Caribbean. As someone who also used to identify as self sufficient, while endlessly slaughtering animals on the reef, I have to ask you: Is it possible to provision our boats (ours is also 38 feet) with loads of good food --and let the last struggling remants of reef animals recover from all of our abuse? I hope you're doing well after that bout of Dengue.

I will always take the more simple way. Don’t get me wrong I’d love to own one of the silent electric yachts but also being able to just enjoy life on a small budget that allows you to make memories sounds better. One thing I’m thankful for is I am not materialistic. I downsize what I own all the time to only keep what I really need. Which will come in handy for the day that I finally end up on a boat.

Thank you so much for the video. I have been travel around US on my RV and planning to do it one more year. I want to be where you are after next year, but I don't know much about sailing. The plan is next year is to buy a small trailer sail boat like a Catalina 25. learn to sail on it for one year then move to blue water.
@digitalreject3233Ай бұрын
Excellent plan. I will be traveling around the USA in a camper with my twin teenage daughters in the summer of 2026. In 2027 I will sell the camper and buy a sailboat. I plan to live my retirement on it. I have sailing experience but you can learn most of the basics on that Catalina 25 you plan on getting. Best of luck to you and happy sailing.

I'm currently creating the ideal cruising boat (in my mind and on Google Drive) The hot shower, washer, and air conditioning would be a necessity and what I'm researching is what appliances are symbiotic... and the thermal waste from one is the power for another. Like a Tesla, I'm trying to scavenge any heat via "plate" heat exchangers to an insulated hot water tank. Many electrical appliances have waste heat (refrigerators, freezers, motors, Air Con (mini-splits). Even the PV solar panels would be happier with less heat. I'll let you know if I come up with a reasonable schematic. At anchor, I'll need a heat sink after the hot water tank is hot, so I guess a salt water hot tub will be next.

I have a 2001 Toyota Tacoma four-wheel-drive extended cab with almost 300,000 miles on it. It’s the six cylinder five speed with a stick. A very desirable truck, and I absolutely love it. But I don’t go around, comparing it to Cadillac Escalade’s. Trying to understand why you feel the need to justify your sailing experience, or why you’re even comparing your boat to mega yachts.
@Adventureman_Dan28 күн бұрын
Guess it's just a boat thing. You land people wouldn't get it..... lol But actually, a gold chromed out monster truck next to your Tacoma would be a more apt comparison.

What gave you the impression that I am a land person? I have lived in South Florida my whole life. I’ve owned two sailboats. Multiple Boston whaler type boats. I kayaked from Chokoloskee to flamingo twice. Once solo. Chart and compass only. I was a treasure diver for 4 years. 200+ tank dives. I could go on, but you get my point. Stay safe out there.

@@Adventureman_Dan i understand what you’re saying. But you link freedom to ‘what you need’ and you call that ‘true’ freedom’. I'd be a lot happier if you described the wonderful time you had from meeting the people from these beautiful yachts.
