It seems like most drivers doing this are running Westinghouse units. After some research reading up on the reviews I see why. I'm currently piecing all the parts for my setup. I'm going with a 3600/4650 watt Westinghouse WGen3600DFc unit because remote start from the bunk in the heat or cold is a must for me. It also has pull start as a backup. Need to bypass the carbon detector though. Heard new generators keep stalling because they go bad quick. I'd prefer to go with a smaller units but they don't come with remote start, only pull start. I want to vent it permanently thru the small side bunk window. Thats gonna be a bit tricky but not impossible. As for the condensation water I'll drill a small 1/4 hole under the passenger seat and run a plastic 1/4 line thru there. I want to secure it in a vented locking sidebox and set it up with some sound deadening materials on the inside walls along with an exhaust port. If possible I'd like to mount an larger external fuel tank and run a long fuel line to there. Reason being is I don't want to constantly pull out the heavy generator from the sidebox to fill the small tank that's located on top. And longer runtime intervals is a plus. Extras I'd like to include is a 4 bank truck battery trickle charger that also connects to a shore power outlet so I don't have to run the generator when thats an option. Thinking about making a video on this when I'm ready. It's going on a 2020 Cascadia.

Cool setup. Finishing mine right now. I managed to connect exhaust pipe to my sleeper window. International trucks has small little windows on the upper bed. Whenever you don’t use it you can close it, instead of using passenger window. I also put the unit on top of my refrigerator nice and neat. Strapped it down and voila. Next step to install side frame box for the generator to protect it from the bad weather.

Yea you could easily use that year round, not only run a small heater inside the truck like you said, but also run another cord over to your block heater for the engine, so your truck will always start real easy and have heat coming from the vents basically right away. Genius!

Looks DOPE!!!!! If I didn’t have a park smart system I would honestly look into this. Much cheaper than a apu. I’d recommend looking into a parksmart or similar system when you replace your truck in the future. APU’s are good for company drivers in my opinion and battery pack units are good for owner ops whose primary focus is to save fuel plus very little maintenance.

@wcfinvader 2 жыл бұрын
@@CashisKingtrucking I didn’t even know that you could put them in after the fact till you mentioned it on in of your streams. Very economical solution you came up with and from the sounds of it you most likely have more cold air coming out of that system then the parksmart systems provide. That’s one reason why I said company drivers would prefer the apu over that battery solutions. I could never cool the truck with the middle curtain open. Crazy yours was cooling the front as well. That’s a dang good AC!
@richardpearce2186

I disagree. The EPU systems are good for people that reset outside of the truck, the APU is superior for those of us who reset inside the truck. I have a thermoking tripac which cost me about $13,000. While nice in some ways, I don’t think its $12,000 better then Cash’s setup.
@wcfinvader
@wcfinvader 2 жыл бұрын
@@richardpearce2186 I’ll give you the reset part. I’m always home before the 34 reset would be a issue. EPU’s have engine interlocks incorporated many times to allow the option of automatically turning on and off the truck to allow the auxiliary batteries to charge. For a 10 hour break this isn’t need but anymore than that in extreme heat it would definitely be a issue. Regular 34 hours breaks then APU would most likely be preferred. I just enjoy no Diesel use and very little maintenance with a EPU.
@richardpearce2186
@richardpearce2186 2 жыл бұрын
@@wcfinvader yea EPU’s are great in many ways. Sucks when the batteries start to get old though. Auto start/stop is also a solution however, your putting your engine through many many more heat/cool cycles which will ultimately bite into its lifespan. Either way, different strokes for different folks… I wish you good revenue!

Get a quart of oil for the generator and keep it in the truck. If the generator runs low on oil, it will turn itself off (low oil safety switch) and wont start back up until its refilled. I have a similar Westinghouse unit and it happened to me last summer after about two months of use. 10w30 is kinda hard to find at TA, think loves had it. I have a small storage bin I keep that accordion hose in that doubles as a water pan and a piece of 1/2" clear tube about 18" long I hook to the back of my ac unit to catch the water. I run my drop cord out the window beside the window adapter, with some foam tape to seal and just roll window up to the bottom edge of window adapter thing lol. My Westinghouse is 2500 model I think, it holds 1 gallon and only lasts about 8 hours. I have Toshiba 8000btu ac, maybe that's why.

I like the concept and it makes sense financially. As you mentioned installing a carbon monoxide detector the part that concerns me is creating a potential carbon monoxide poisoning situation for the truck parked next to me. Am I missing something as to why this isn't a concern?
@CashisKingtrucking
@CashisKingtrucking Жыл бұрын
I think there's enough air to dissipate the exhaust between trucks. Think of diesel APU. They sit right next to the truck beside them. This generator puts out less exhaust and it's a few more feet away than an APU. My only concern is if my exhaust goes under my cab. The only time my carbon monoxide detector has ever gone off was when I had my windows down and the guy next to me was running his truck.

Have you thought about what to do with it when it rains? Yeah, I just can't justify paying $15,000 for a new apu or epu. I'm fixing to do the same thing with my truck. It came with a EPU on it but the ac doesn't work. Heat's good but no ac. So off to Walmart I went. Got the Media 5000 BTU for $239 and the warranty also for an extra $30 bucks. Also bought the champion 2500-watt inverter generator for $499 which only uses enough energy to support whatever your running. Apparently there supposed to get much better gas mileage because of this. The description said it will run 11.5 hours on 1.05 gallons at 25% load which doesn't sound nearly as good as what you're getting from the sound of it. Also, these inverter generators are supposed to run clean power so your electronics don't get messed up. Seems like that's what you had but I don't remember you mentioning whether the one you bought was an inverter generator or regular version. I'm going to attempt to set it up tomorrow. Thanks for the pointer on the plywood window insert. I was wondering what I was going to do with that. I had the same idea but your mentioning it confirmed yep that's how I'll do it. Enjoy your videos. It's like we're brothers from another mother or something lol. I even have a 2016 Cascadia. Every time you mention something about yours giving you problems I'm like great won't be long now I'd better prepare. Yours has a bit more miles on it than mine if I remember correctly. Mines at around 675,000. I'm also leased onto a company for similar reasons as you. But I pull flat not reefer. Thanks again for the vid's brother.

I've ran it in some light rain with no problems. If it's heavy rain I usually shut it off but then it's cool out because of the rain. I think you'll get better fuel economy out of that champion than they advertise. The small AC really don't put a load on these generators except at start up

@@CashisKingtrucking 10/4. Yeah, I figured they could take some rain being that there meant to be outside and all. The other thing i was thinking is maybe put a chain around it as sone have said they have tendicy to walk off. I got it all out today and started putting it together. That dang ac had to weigh a hundred pounds! I bet it was heavier then the generator. I hope your right about the gas usage, not that 11.5 hours a tank is bad but..
