My carrier does these loads all the time. The load goes from Iowa to South Carolina. I don't think hurricane pay was needed or thought about.

After sitting stuck empty, I think the only thing left are skid row and dangerous weather warnings that no one wants. 1. Leadville CO. winter storm warning. 12 - 24" snow. Yes me. 2. Tucson Arizona; We can't load you, lightening storm. Yes me. BTW, a tornado went overhead. 3. Weatherford TX. Dead, finally 3 loads pop up!!! YT Storm chasers chasing two tornados from that area towards Waco. Loads instantly disappear when funnels leave, and area safe again. 4. Waiting, waiting.. Suddenly a long healthy load to El Monte CA!!! Yes me. Hurricane Hilary, reduced to tropical storm. While driving, my phone alerts "An earthquake has been detected!" 5. Slow, until flood warnings in Sacramento and Long Beach areas. Suddenly, loads pop up. One did pay an increase from garbage rate level, to just a "normal" rate. I guess when the governor issues a "state of emergency", the brokers can cough up a few extra pennies. Because you know the broker told the customer the driver needs more because this is CA fuel and a dangerous run.

Currently in my 2nd year of a LP with a mega, payment only $630 per week on a brand new 2024 T680. I agree, there are always options and everyone is different. But in my particular experience, I don’t recall ever thinking that my truck payment is a hindrance to my earnings. And I take 2-3 weeks off after running 2-3 months nonstop. I run hard, but I’m sure others run harder.

When I was 16 a friend of mine dad had a whole truck load of watermelons get rejected. Why he decided to drive home with them I have no idea. They were over ripe. You had to pick through them a little but my buddy and I loaded down the bed of my Ranger several times selling the hell out of them watermelons. We made a couple hundred bucks each that weekend. Not bad money for a 16 year old especially back in 1995. Thanks for bringing back a good memory!

When I've been caught up in situations like this I call all churches, salvation army, food banks & homeless shelters. If they can't take it I ask if they know who could. Also call refrigerated warehouses in your area. They usually have a connection to some place local that take rejected loads.
