If that is a plastic injected two piece steering shaft, Hitting it with a hammer (1;22) will break the plastic at the injection site destroying any energy absorbing ability that the shaft is supposed to have.

I can tell you for a fact ALL these mopar cars were all considered dogs in their day by everyone into muscle cars. That's why they have low production numbers. Not because they are rare. A modern current 2022 mk8 golf r with a 4 cyl 2.0L turbo at 315 hp will out handle, out run, and do everything better, for much less, be much safer and more comfortable, it's 2021, join it....and still get 30mpg...a 71' obsolete Plymouth is not worth $500,000, nor the amount of wasted time...non productive nonsense.

It might as well be a model T, it's still an obsolete rotary phone, $500,000 is nonsense....buy a new Porsche or Audi RS something for much less, and have a faster, more comfortable, safer, lots faster, than this junk, insured for what a 71 is worth, $0.
