Everyone has said that this video has "fit problems" and in this episode we finally find a major one. But as you'll see, there isn't really a fit problem, there's a design problem on how to properly fit the parts. Everything actually fits together well. It's getting them in the correct position to fit well, that is the problem. Today we will solve that issue and hopefully save you some headache as well.

Hey Ben! Just started the build but have looked at each of the 15 videos to some extent, great stuff, and so as I go along, I will study your coaching in more detail as I get to each major section. My comment about the folks who build this stuff, whether it is the kit manufacturer or the aftermarket parts guys, you would think, to ensure quality control of their engineering, is for them to build these kits to make a completed model, thus they would certainly find all the "flaws" or "errors" and be able to correct them. It doesn't matter if you are Trumpeter, MK-1, Pontos or Boeing, it's got to work right. During my corporate career as a product manager, if you did not do justice to the product, you are going to lose customers or potentially sink your product and possibly your reputation; toast!

Good stuff allowing us to follow the thought processes of a master modeler solving a problem wevhavexall faced.

I'm always amazed that model kits fit together as well as they do. It's a tremendous engineering feat.

Yes; the moulds have to be slightly oversized in order to compensate for shrinkage as the ABS cools. However, if the press operator doesn't pay attention to the temperature, the plastic can shrink too much; or not enough.

What an interesting video. It was fun to watch your thinking process as you went along and see the "eureka" moment. I'm so grateful to have you being the pathfinder on this and finding these things along the way before I run into them, ha ha! I had noticed the little hatch-like spot on either side of the forward hanger area -- it really adds interest to open it up and add the little room and hatch into officer country. I'll be adding that to my CV-6. Again, many thanks for these videos!

Cool stuff. Results might help with this ship’s models in smaller scales, too.

Wow pontos haven't treated you very well, sending you your kit late, ghosting you about the missing frets. You are right the kits arent cheap but their customer service is. It surprises me that pontos are dicks., they should be on top of their products and supporting their customers. Ill be avoiding their products. Great series of 📹, enjoying the build and the solutions to your issues; very enlightening. Cheers 🍻,. Guy

The brass rod sounds good, I've built older white metal minis and pinning might also be a good idea. Make sure to space them tight.

I’ve noticed that Pontos stuff is out of stock about everywhere. They haven’t had any re-stock in a while.

Where you added that extra hatch is probably meant to be a blackout trunk to prevent light from escaping the ship at night. If it is, everything in there would be painted black.

Hi Ben, Would it be possible to place the flight deck as you had, then the piece that goes to the outside of the Funnel And mark the outside of the base with a pen/pencil when you have the piece lined up? Then you could measure the thickness of the piece and place styrene or spruce blocks behind it to give it an anchor point for gluing? I hope I explained it right. I can picture it in my head but explaining it was a challenge. 🤪

Yes and I’ll probably do that. But after the video I discovered a “box” that gets glued to the bottom of the flight deck in that same area. It “may” also provide structural support. But I’ll totally be putting styrene strips in to hold the walls in position prior to gluing.
