Your adorable... Your like so proud of yourself...lol I think it's great...no..."fantastic"... That you enjoy doing these kind of things... It keeps our minds going... Keeps us sharp... I have cancer and am now on permanent disability... And a little while back I got back into building things... I had worked hard most of my life so I never got to build like I did when I was a kid... And of course their so much better now... New techniques ... everything is new... And the model companies have come a long way... So I don't know you like your husband does... But I'm sure he's proud of you too... Best to you both...

On modern carriers the back of the hanger deck seems to be an unofficial catch all for storing " STUFF " . Maybe ships boats or your boxes and tugs and eng. stands and propeller stands . There would be maintenance stands for the mechanics to use when the were working on the they could not reach from the deck .
@schmedly01420 сағат бұрын
Anytime a bird was in the hanger deck there would be a drip pan under the engine . The drip pans would be about 4 x4 and silver ( unpainted ) . You might be able to make them out of the brass sheet left overs or make them out of paper and fold and glue the sides .
@schmedly01420 сағат бұрын
If the aircraft was going threw major eng. work the prop would be removed and put on a prop stand or maybe on a pallet .

I would think most of the tool boxes would be navy gray , most of the stuff that the navy owned was painted grey .

I'm doing a Mustang 302 Boss as an inbetween build. I spray my engines black and then use a bushy make up brush to semi dry brush the metal colour on it.

The sloped part on the hanger deck side wall under the island is probably the uptakes for the funnel . The 3 lower spots may be clean out access for the stack .

That’s a cool kit. A million years ago I did the sedan and the Nomad versions. It’s gonna look great when you’re finished. Any thoughts on a color scheme yet?

Gotta be white interior. I’d just go through the paint options for a ‘55. Something will catch your eye. Or lower it with chrome reversed wheels and a sweet candy, pearl and flake 50’s style paint job. Hmm, might have just talked myself into something 🤔

The 'Lucky Coin' tradition is still carried out today. A ship without one was deemed doomed from the start. There is a video on KZfaq where the future CO of USS Nimitz CVN-68 (?) is seen placing the 'Lucky Coin' On a spot where the inner port main bulkhead of the 'island' will be set and you can actualy see the laying of the 'island' right over the Lucky Charm. Love your videos. Please do keep up the excellent work! Best regards.

Hi Ben, Greetings from the UK. Currently working my way through the Duchess series, (haven't got to this one yet) and really enjoying it. I've not ever built a wooden ship/boat but have today ordered Vanguard Models HM Sherbourne to have ago. Built plenty of Balsa RC planes back in the 1990s so hopefully that will help a bit. Also been a plastic modeller since my early teens (i'm 62 now) so plenty of model building experience including model engineering. I have a question not related to this build though. Can I ask where you got the fantastic wall art of the HE162 Salamander from. I would love one like it in my man cave. All the best , Mark

Thanks Mark!!! I found that at a store we have in the states called “Hobby Lobby”. I guess you’d have to do a pretty serious internet search to track one down. It was chance that I found that one. Glad you’re enjoying the series and I hope you really enjoy the Sherbourne!

I just recieved mine today in a pretty good shape. No postal service incidents! I want to thank you for adding 2 pieces not just one just in case something bad happens with one. There is only one problem with the piece... watching your videos on youtube I see that my piece doesn t have some rivets detail on it. In your youtube video model looks just perfect... I really wished to get that too. That s the only negative thing... maybe the 3d printed hasn t catched those rivets... I love the piece tho... THANK YOU!

If I had to build this kit the OCD way, I would go insane. I just want to build a kit that looks great when I am done. I could care less if it is TECHNICALLY correct. I want to enjoy putting the kit together and hopefully not have a migraine along the way. Am I wrong??
@TheMidwestModelShop11 күн бұрын
Nope. Always build your model how you want.

Use a sprue cutter to cut the supports close to the deck. Then follow up with an exacto knife and sand paper.

I didn’t think TBM’s were on board any flat tops at the time of Midway. A squadron did fly out of Midway but none had been assigned to any carriers yet. When I researched my CV8 I found that much or the deck equipment was painted a blue-grey color.

Love 3D printed parts. I think most modelers continue this hobby for a lifetime. If some can print these, we all can. Invest the time to learn to design and print. The $150.00 printers put out awesome stuff.

Don’t forget air hoses. Typically, a hose would be run from the side wall to a pig where multiple lines would then go to several people using them.
@bobknight46918 күн бұрын
Since the SBD’s did not have folded wings, they actually hung them from the ceiling. There was a rod going through the fuse middle fwd of the horz stab. I have a photo somewhere. Engines would never be on a pallet, they would have been in a yellow stand. The SBD has jack points under the wing behind the gear for maintenance. The jacks would have been a tripod with center actuator all pained yellow. You will also need yellow propeller stands where two props would be stored. Expect control surface removal for repair/replacement. Hope that helps a bit.
