A model showcase video for a 1/35th scale Academy M60A2 starship. In this video I review the kit, and discuss some of the mods and features that were added to the model. I also show what was required to convert the model from static display to motorized. Finally I compare and contrast the Academy M60A2 with the Dragon M60A2 kits.

I absolutely love long, music less videos. I enjoy the substance of narration and the lack of KZfaq approved anime music. Keep them coming!

I just built a 1/16 scale R/C M60A2 out of a TongDE M60A3 kit with a DLKM RC M60A2 conversion turret.

Since you are motorized this Academy M60, do the swing arms adjust to surface conditions as it is being run and is the tank going to be wired control or with an rc transmitter?
@oddball759mm
@oddball759mm 3 ай бұрын
no the swing arms are static, for the type of running I do with my 1/35 models the working suspension in not needed. Some people have however RC converted these kits and have made working suspensions, but for me it's just not necessary. for the running it's only motorized and is unguided

I found a use for link and length, I use most of mine now for spares. I did the Trumpeter HEMTT M1120 recently that has the flatrack and they're a perfect load for it. Yeah, they were the Bigfoot tracks, but still. It's a very niche use for them, but if you got 'em and you are modeling that niche, use 'em. Otherwise, you know my stance on link and length. It's the only and correct stance to have. And yes, I sat through all 3 hours of the video in one sitting, work was dead enough to do it.

yeah outside of using them for spares or for applicate armor they are worthless. Even then I sometimes still use the workables for the spares that I have as leftover depending how bad the kit ones fit together, yes there have been times where that was the case.

@oddball759mm the majority of m113 link and length are that bad. Quite a few of the German ones are that bad too.

@@thejoseph9064 I believe it. I saw this too on the old dragon PZIII and PZIV links. totally worthless for lengths of spares let alone a full set of track. since the workables give you lots of spares, I might as well put them to good use

Great and very informative video. I have question about a term you used (merc paint job òr merc armor) I do apologize because I am kind of new to military tank or armor terminology. Any information you could provide would be greatly appreciated and helpful to me.

@@oddball759mm What do you mean by the term merc paint or merc armor? I really haven't heard of the term, "merc" before other than the shortened version of "mercenary ".

The camouflage is spelled merdc and it’s an abbreviation for mobile equipment research and design command. Like I stated in the video it is a standardization paint by number camouflage pattern that the us military used from the 70s to the early 90s. Every vehicle in the army inventory had a color chart that showed where the paints are applied and what colors to use for the different seasons of the year and / or the geographic location that the vehicle would be operating in. I hope this helps there is more info online and if you google up merdc camo you will find lots more info, thanks again

Currently watching the video and a couple of things stand out. I know the kit shows the unit as 3-32 Armor, but I was 3rd platoon leader in 1-32 Armor when we drew new M60A2s at Vilseck in August of 1975. I also served in 3-32 Armor in 1976-1978. Both 1-32AR and 3-32AR were stationed in Friedberg at Ray Barracks. I know ABSOLUTELY that 3-32AR NEVER had M60A2s. There were six M60A2 battalions in Germany and 1 at Fort Hood and the A2 was in service for only 5 years. Third Armored Division's A2 battalions were 1-32AR and 3-33AR (the latter at Ayers Kaserne in Kirchgons) The other four battalions were in 8th Infantry Division, 3rd Infantry Division, and 1st Armored Division. Your bumper markings, which are for 3-32AR are incorrect. The Littlefield Collection's bumper markings were also incorrect. A small detail, but... The telephone on a platform over the right rear fender is correct for our tanks because it was a modification work order which we applied while drawing our new tanks. The phone box was originally directly on the fender, but the fenders were damaged often in the field, which also damaged the phone box. Mounting on a platform attached to the back deck helped protect the infantry phone. The box you said was the laser rangefinder was actually the infrared tracker/guidance box for the Shillelagh missile. The laser rangefinder was to the right of the main gun. It had to be covered by a plate when not in use. A padlock ensured it didn't fall off. The rotatating amber warning light was required by German traffic law after a number of night-time traffic accidents with US armored vehicles in non-specular camouflage (MERDC system) which we applied in 3-32 Armor beginning in late 1976. 3-32 M60A1s were dressed in USAREUR MASSTER until then. The A2s were issued in a black-green OD, to which black stars were applied. White lettering and markings were not used with MERDC. Third Armored Division was not issued the light tan paint, so our tanks were 40% forest green, 40% medium brown, and the black crow's feet filled the rest. The A2s eventually received the MERDC pattern, as well, but I don't remember when. There are plenty of pictures on line. About the different battalions - if you ever saw GI Blues with Elvis Presley, they use 3-32 Armor M48s, but Elvis was in 1-32 Armor. I haven't finished your video yet, so there may be more. Regarding your choice of gun tubes... the tube with the bore evacuator is actually the earlier tube. The bore evacuator proved inadequate for clearing the tube of remnants of rhe caseless cartridge, so the closed breech scavenger system was developed (resulting in the bulge at the rear of the hull to house it). The vents in the barrel were sealed up on the early tubes and the bore evacuator welded to the barrel so it could not be removed. The later tubes did not have the vents or the bore evacuator. MERDC - all the A2s would in Germany used the same MERDC paint colors - no white, a darker brown, and included the tan, because the tan would have been available later. I can't speak for the Fort Hood battalion. i found your weathering impressive. You can solve your searchlight glass problem with a searchlight cover. The only time the cover was removed was when the light was in use to prevent damage to the lens. Same for sight covers and the laser box - closed except for when in use. The sighr covers are ballistic, protecting the sights from small arm fire and shrapnel damage. We used the antenna mount on the right rear of the turret which was molded there as only an impression. An amber warning light was attached to the bustle rack. Our tanks were issued with the side-loading air filter boxes, but the top loaders were another modification work order that was installed when we drew them new. I've seen pics of A2s in service with the side-loaders and the later M60A3 style, as well.
