What made you decide to move to the 60 trim wheel? It seems like the 50 trim was a pretty responsive setup for your application, for "ancient" turbo tech, they still carry their weight.

I agree and say your 100% correct. My decision was based on wanting more horsepower, displacement increase to 2.0L with revving higher and budget. Unfortunately it's been a slow path but still moving forward. But in short yes, 50 trim was much better suited. I have to rev the old head out way higher then I like to keep boost between shifts.

@@joshthomas8730 Well I hope progress continues steadily for you. Once you've got all the mods in place I'm sure the 60 Trim will really come to life. If you ever choose to upgrade, a 60-1 in the T04S housing or a GTW3476 will have more headroom for power with similar (or possibly better response).

VVT Solenoid is always on?
@joshthomas87302 жыл бұрын
It engages early and shuts off about 5200 RPM once peak boost is hit.

@@joshthomas8730 when VVT is OFF the valve timing is in overlap? and when VVT is ON is it normal mode?
@joshthomas87302 жыл бұрын
@@alejandrodibenedetto66 I believe it is the opposite. When VVT is activated it advances the intake camshaft timing creating more overlap. Normally (in stock programming) its only active for cold start and very low RPM. Probably no gains with k03 sized turbo. Can definitely help spool on larger sized turbos along with A/F and timing adjustments. On my very first large turbo tune (old t3/t4 50trim) I was able to bring spool down from 4000 RPM to about 3200 RPM. This turbo wheel is bigger and a bit laggy. If your trying to road tune, do 2 logs one with VVT off and one on...compare the MAF readings and that will give you an idea of your desired switch off point should be. The overlap is not as beneficial up top and should be turned off in most cases.

@@joshthomas8730 valve overlap at high RPMs helps increase cylinder filling (thus generating more power)
@joshthomas87302 жыл бұрын
@@alejandrodibenedetto66 No valve overlap at high boost and high RPM increases blowby. The overlap down low is what allows additional air to flow out the exhaust valves spooling the turbo faster. It becomes detrimental to performance at a point, which can pinpointed on a dyno or guesstimated using the method I mentioned.

Your turbo combination is wrong. Put a smaller turbine housing. AR.57 with 3 to 4" down pipe. And port your car head. And build and cut your cam like a standard with better lift.

I plan on going turbo cam, head port, and E 85 what turbo do you recommend? I’ve been looking at 50 trim garret
