People were asking me if my wedding was going to be a traditional church wedding - well, no. :)
The point of the video - the bible is as good a source of information on the topic of LOVE, as any ancient desert scribblings. Sure, taken on its own, 1 Cor 13:4-7 is very nice, but not as nice as other descriptions of love that human beings have come up with. And anyway - would you take advice about love from someone whose biography revealed them to be an appallingly UNLOVING character in the first place?
The bible demolishes itself as a useful source for anything, other than an anthropological study in the history of metaphysical wonderings, superstition, ignorance, and delusion. When you read the words on the pages of the bible, what you actually see is horror, fear, violence, anger, rage, jealousy (fuck it, I think jealousy is a pretty low emotion/characteristic), pettiness, death, fear, - the very worst of human nature.
Just because there are a couple of nice sentences scattered throughout it to doesn't make up for the bulk of it being so revolting.
It's not as if nobody has ever come up with a better description of love than St. Paul. Anyone could. Many have. Let's leave the bible in the dustbox of history.
A few weak points in this video? Yeah, probably. eg, the fine line between envy and jealousy, whether or not god condones smashing babies to pieces on rocks. They're certainly worth bringing up, and it's not as if the bible isn't already an impossibly mistranslated, confused self-contradictory document. I'm not claiming my video is infallible, just making a point. And anyway - smearing shit on people's faces? WTF? Deuteronomy 28? WWWTTTFFFFFFF???
Once again, let me assure my critics that I know christian doctrine rather well, and that I've read the counter arguments, for eg this one regarding whether or not God keeps a record of wrongs:

I know you can point to all sorts of examples of God being nice - but that's kind of the point, isn't it. There are examples of niceness, and also of the worst and most appalling cruelty. I'll happily admit the former, I have nothing to lose from it. Just please admit the latter, without making shit up out of thin air about how those traits of this god are less important. The old testament is fucking BRIMMING with them. God must have been very deliberate in seeing to it that those elements of his character were recorded and preserved in such VOLUME!
And yes, that's my clunky organ playing.
Sorry to those who very kindly and generously volunteer to translate and subtitle these into other languages - it's really not going to work with this one, I guess, given that there's text already all over the page.

Mr. NonStampCollector, your cartoons are exactly on target. I was a Christian Pastor for 21 years. It took me awhile to see all the mass contradictions, but you have it exactly correct. I have not read any of your other commenters but I can say, with a few Bible degrees worth of study, that you are really quoting these versus in context. I'm sure others say thinks like, "You are out of context," or "You have a deluding spirit in you." What kind of all loving god sends deluding spirits to trick "his children" so they will be lost for eternity. The Bible really really is full of BS. Thank you for your humorous and accurate teachings. It's nice to know that I'm not the only one who sees these massive inconsistencies. A while ago I was in church (my mom still drags me along because she doesn't know I'm an atheist yet) and they were reading some horrible story about a guy sacrificing some animals to god and splashing their blood around, and everyone in church was just completely okay with that. Andy Gutierrez No they did not. What they did believe in is what most of the great minds believed in, there lack of comprehention which they, because they were so brilliant, conquered very seldom. If you would do some research before pretending to know something ,you would find a pattern, that most of those great minds refered to god only when their brain could not explain something anymore. But because they could explain so much, hence we are calling them great thinkers, this happened rarely. Because they just refered to a god once even they could not make sence of there experience we today call it the god of the gaps. If you do not know something, then god is their answer. But some humens are aware of logic and therefore know that from "I cannot explain it" does not lead logicaly to "god did it". So the grown up version today sticks with "we do not know, yet". And they has never been any important evidence for a god. So please, go home and read a comic....at least.

The Bible has so many plot holes and cliches. It's built on the hope that people will be willing to ignore those, judge the characters as the author intended rather than by the qualities they demonstrate, and enjoy the feel-good story. No wonder it's a bestseller.

As someone who used to be Christian... We would just ignore these things and try to forget about them. I remember hearing blatant contradictions and saying "that's wrong!" or "that's taken out of context!" Upon reading it fully in context, I'd have no choice but to just ignore and pretend like it's one of God's "mysterious ways". Don't worry, I eventually grew a brain.

You're like someone defending a prisoner in a high-security prison doing time for multiple counts of murder, saying "Hey, he's a nice guy! Look - he sends his dear old dad a birthday card every year! I love these videos ......religion seems really ridiculous when you explain it exactly as it is. He isn't adding anything that's not in the scriptures, he just isn't cherry picking or watering it down & I love it. Keep doing these videos so people can actually see what they are supporting and saying they believe. I honestly believe the majority of believers haven't read and really don't know what is in their holy books, so this is a really clever way of exposing it. Cheers....

What is funny and ironic about my experience in being in a Christian family is that they always say “God has not changed. He never has and never will. He still expects the same rules as he commanded.” Then say that we need to follow Jesus because the older scriptures before him were just for the people at the time. So God DID change his rules at one point. What you are saying is wrong but ok mum.

The part I find most frightening is when you say: "14 Whoever does not have the Spirit cannot receive the gifts that come from God's Spirit. I'll spare you the breakdown of just how bankrupt writings like that are, and the kinds of things that they have been used to justify and get to the point. God created me in the full knowledge that I cannot believe he exists. He then devised an eternal punishment in excruciating pain and torment for me for being the exact person he created. Free will? Not in the cards if there is an omnipotent deity. I was created this way and if you are right, I am deserving of eternal punishment for being who I was created to be. God is love? "You keep using that word.... I don't think it means what you think it means."

The character of Yahweh does not belong in this description of love, ... the description that he's apparently touting in his book .... and nor does he belong in any other description of love either! Corinthians is a letter dictated by St. Paul and written by a friend named Sosthenes to the early Christians who joined his Jewish/Christian synogogue at Corinth, near Greece. I read some of Paul's letter and decided from the content that he and I live in different worlds which makes him useless to me as someone I could learn from. Sorry Paul.

When pressed to describe/define their god, we often hear from Christians that "God is Love". This video is such a great response to that claim. My favorite part was the name of the bible version he's using and the abbreviation that goes along with it. Hilarious. I guess, really, that's kind of what the internet has done to the bible. It's kind of taken away that whole mysterious aspect of the bible. It's so much easier now for anybody to cross reference. You don't have to rely on the brainwashers/indoctrinaters/interpreters to do it for you.

That's the problem, it would serve as proof that God isn't omnipotent, if God isn't omnipotent than he isn't necessary to have created the world. Honestly if I weren't a christian & you told me God came down to torture himself to appease himself, so that man didn't have to endure the punishment he made for them than I'd think you were high af. @@percaholic6939 Essentially God is just, but at the same time God is merciful. For God to be just, there has to be punishment for wrongdoing. Since we choose to rebel against God and sin by breaking his Law and choosing evil (Romans 3:23) the punishment for that is death. However, in God's mercy he wishes that none should perish and that everyone would have eternal life. (Romans 6:23, John 3:16, etc.). If God were not just, He would not be good. And if God were not merciful, could He be loving? And in His omnipotence He is able to reconcile these opposite ideas of justice and mercy so that through repentance anyone may have eternal life by taking on the punishment for evil Himself through his Son, Jesus. This is a slight oversimplification, but it's the main idea. Also, if you choose to not let Jesus take the punishment for you, this is not what God wants for you, but it's your free will to choose to take on that punishment yourself, which is eternal death in Hell. "For by grace you have been saved through faith, it is not of your own doing; it is the gift of God, so that no one may boast." Ephesians 2:8-9

I don't think the Christian god is limited only to the things I've mentioned, I think it's limited to things that aren't real, don't exist, and are impossible. As for the "marrying her rapist" verse. It is in fact talking about exactly that. The relevant distinction in that law is that the woman is not betrothed. In this case, the rape is not a property crime against another husband, but merely towards a guardian father, which is viewed as less serious. Consequently, the crime only warrants a small compensation paid to the father. This would clearly be the case regardless of whether or not force was applied.

Here is the holy Bible says all other religion followers must be put to death, just imagine the verse starts with 'if'. Deuteronomy 13:6-10 6: If your very own brother, or your son or daughter, or the wife you love, or your closest friend secretly entices you, saying, "Let us go and worship other gods" (gods that neither you nor your fathers have known, Deuteronomy 13:7 gods of the peoples around you, whether near or far, from one end of the land to the other), 8: do not yield to him or listen to him. Show him no pity. Do not spare him or shield him. 9: You must certainly put him to death. Your hand must be the first in putting him to death, and then the hands of all the people. 10: Stone him to death, because he tried to turn you away from the LORD your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery.

I swear, it's like NO ONE actually reads these supposed "Holy Books". If you want to see an example of "True Believers" in an abrahamic faith, look no further than ISIS. That is what a "True" Belief and Unwavering Faith in an abrahamic religion looks like
