if you have too much of it, you may be more likely to get high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, heart disease, dementia, and certain cancers, including breast cancer and colon cancer.
The fat doesn't just sit there. It's an active part of your body, making "lots of nasty substances," says Kristen Hairston, MD, assistant professor of endocrinology and metabolism at Wake Forest School of Medicine.
If you gain too much weight, your body starts to store your fat in unusual places.
With increasing obesity, you have people whose regular areas to store fat are so full that the fat is deposited into the organs and around the heart, says Carol Shively, PhD, professor of pathology-comparative medicine at Wake Forest School of Medicine.

About OFF GRID with DOUG and STACY:
We moved to our 11 acres in 2011 from a large city in the Midwest with zero carpentry and farming skills. We live with no solar / wind power / public water or well. We share our adventure to a sustainable life, growing our own food from vegetables to meat. We post videos DAILY and they range from HOW TO to EVERYDAY LIFE and NUTRITION on the off grid homestead. We were city folks just like you probably and wanted to enjoy life and have more control over our food. We share food recipes as well as natural remedies.

Greetings Doug and Stacy. I think we are fat because of abundance. I think we also have problems with growth hormones. I try to avoid sugars. I am nearly 70 and still work. I avoid all soda and sweet drinks. I have lost about five pounds since my last Doctors visit. He and I are both pleased. I get so much out of your videos, thanks for posting them. I avoid corn syrup, I never realized that sugar was so prevelant in our diet. Thanks for sharing.

I’m so thankful for this channel. I quit the “white devil” a year ago after feeling unwell, doctors kept telling me I was the epitome of health , they changed the metrics when testing for pre diabetes , I was on my way there ( for 4 years) and no doctor was even warning me, my own body was though; I was tired, hypoglycemic, my leg was numb, my circulation was horrible. I’ve learned so much about food this last year, I’m so grateful to God for opening my eyes to it all. I just found your videos a month ago, I literally write almost everything down you say on notecards. Y’all have had a HUGE inspirational impact on my wellness journal and paradigm shift. I’m grateful to God for what you’re doing. I was born and raised a Jewish city girl (former Detroit), now I’m feeling healthier than I have my entire life…at 46, hallelujah!! ThankYOU for glorifying God friends by sharing your knowledge!!

As an older diabetic woman, stevia saved my life. When the doc said "change your food choices or you'll be dead in a year", I admittedly went a lil overboard and threw out or donated EVERYTHING in the fridge/freezer/pantry that contained over a few grams of sugar. Most everything, in other words. Took me a month or so to break the addictions, but stevia is my new best friend. I've lost 225 pounds to date. Oh, and I'm not dead yet. So nyaa nyaa, mister know-it-all doctor!

I really enjoy your videos ,I use to weigh 300 pounds 6 years ago .I was diagnosed as diabetic and had lupus and I smoked and ate so much junk food, I decided enough was enough I was sick and tired of being sick and tired!I threw out the junk food and said goodbye cigs and went to my doctor and said I'm ready to live and I'm tired of killing myself with nicotine a caffeine and junk food.so he has to put me on diabetic meds and shots and told me to start to walking every day and drink water and eat fresh fruits and veggies and fish and chick free range and buy local on the fruits and veggies,and im happy to say im 40 lbs away from my goal weight and my lupus is in remission and tho my diabertes is still and issues its getting better but i an loveing life and feeling better

See I would love this but I can't find a sugar replacement for my coffee that is affordable & good enough to down 🥺 I've tried stevia but it just isn't yummy in coffee at all 🥺 I've read monk fruit extract is the closest to sugar without having any sugar in it, but it's SO expensive 😭 I can eat without sugar or at least stevia sweetened food, but I can't find something for my coffee 😭 also, I've heard some people recommend meat diets, but I worry about only red meats because supposedly your body isn't able to digest it😕 but, it sounds like you lost the weight due to ketosis 😊

I agree. My labels say "Chicken breast" or "vine ripe tomatoes" or "cider vinegar". Even if you buy all of your food at the grocery store, if choose whole, raw ingredients, you can eat very well. Shop at the outside edges of the store: Produce, fish, meat, dairy. Skip that whole inner island of man-made wonders if you can (except for flour, rice, spices, coffee, etc).

@@OakKnobFarm What most people do not realize, is that saliva begins to turn starch into sugar in your mouth, before it even gets swallowed! So, those "complex carbohydrates" like flour, potatoes, rice, corn, etc. are not good for you either. Even whole wheat flour is mainly starch, which turns to sugar in your body.

Anyway, Doug & Stacy you two are cracking me up, 😹 I loved it at about 8:40, I had to rewatch it, four times. @@joebobjenkins7837 It's about much more than flavor! Granted, you've probably worked that out by now. Once you start looking, you can find it almost anywhere (especially in the U.S.). Probably the biggest factor is to increase a food's "crave-ability," which major brands spends tons of time researching--since it's been demonstrated that, given a choice between sugar and cocaine, 94% of lab rats will choose sugar. For anyone else not already aware, here's a New York Times article to help you. I wish more people understood that chemicals are worse! Anytime you see the words "sugar free" or "fat free," that means "chemical shit-storm!" www.nytimes.com/2016/05/22/upshot/it-isnt-easy-to-figure-out-which-foods-contain-sugar.html

Darling husband will be 62 this year and we are both in excellent health and no medications! We eat clean and include herbs, tumeric and spicy peppers in the winter. I recently heard about research done that looked at gut flora in mice fed a cooked diet vs a raw diet (in regards to root vegetables). The amazing thing was that the gut flora completely changed within 24 hours. The same beneficial bacteria that protect the root vegetables from bacteria in the soil appear in the gut. I will wash my vegetables with fresh water, but I don't peel them, and that beneficial bacteria remains. We are learning so much about how our gut flora impacts our health. Thank you for sharing this information!

I have an idea. Can Stacy make a cookbook of all her sugar free recipes? I would love to cut back on sugar and use honey or dates instead, but it's so hard to find a recipe! I know myself enough to know that if it's not as easy as possible and all put together, I will cheat, cheat, and cheat again. When my sweet tooth is itching, I become a different person. Because sugar is a DRUG!

Why do you need a recipe.? Simply replace the sugar with honey or dates or stevia.
@aliyamoon80
@aliyamoon80 3 жыл бұрын
@@williambranham6249 It's not that easy. All of those ingredients behave differently in a recipe. Cooking is somewhat of a chemistry experiment. If you use a "wetter" or "denser" sweetener in a recipe, it affects the finished product. Also, all of those sweeteners have different degrees of sweetness. You can't just substitute one for another. There's a trick to it.

Honey and dates are both sugar also. Being diabetic myself, honey is worse as it goes into your system faster as it is already partially digested by the bees. I use stevia erithritol mixture that does not spike glucose.

For several years, due to health concerns, I was forced to give up sugars and flours. Before Christmas however, I started baking again, and now, I'm getting sick again (irregular heartbeat, headaches, and swollen joints, feet, and hands). Because I'm allergic to honey and maple syrup and don't like the taste of Stevia, it looks like my baking days are over. To cheer myself up though, I've decided to give fermenting a try (which I learned on this site. So, thanks, Stacy). Lord willing, it will keep me busy, happy, and healthy (in my cozy little kitchen), for many years to come.

My son was sick with something called PANDAS. He is 13. This it a ammune reaction to strep throat, that causes a sudden onset of Terrets and OCD among other things. The short of it was that his ammune system was attacking his brain causing swelling. This is often miss diagnosed as a form of autism, but thank goodness my doctor was well informed. He still had strep in his intestinal track that needed to eliminated, and we had to get rid of the inflammation. This is relatively a unstudied and not well known thing. So treatment is still in the experimental stage. I did not want to ruin my son's intestinal bacteria with antibiotics and unknown chemicals that may or may not help. So I did some research and found that some essential oils were found to solve this reaction.(EO are not usually consumed and not FDA regulated) there are only a few oils that can be ingested (only pure EO can be eaten, thy are extremely strong form of plant essence) I used oregano 3 drops 3 times a day in capsules (oregano oil can burning your it's a hot oil and must be deluted in oil). This is good for killing bad bacteria, and strep bacteria. Then I used manuka honey 1 TBS twice daily for enflimation, and 1 drop of frankincense mixed in for immune stabilizer. It worked he no longer is yelling random words or making sounds all day, and the OCD is going away slowly. I read from a pandas face book that i will have to keep treating him for imflimation for a while to help his body fix itself, and that Everytime he's exposed to strep throat the symptoms will return ant to treat with oregano oil again.(oregano oil should only be used for no more than 3 weeks , 6 weeks for extreme). I'm so happy I just wanted to spread the news! Also check out the book the cure is in the cupboard it's about oregano oil. ( Essential oil companies per the FDA can not make claims that their oils can cure sickness, and Manny people like myself can not recommend a brand or risk their post being taken down, the FDA will not allow claims, Manny EO companies have to state not for consumption do to the Regulations) Essential oils need to be 100% pure, to be ingested only in very small amounts(drops). EO can be dangerouse do your research buy a book. I am not a doctor or professional and am not recommending for you to do what I did. Just putting the info out their for others to be able to make informed decision
