Brushing with baking soda can safely and effectively remove plaque. While still abrasive, baking soda toothpaste is not as hard as the enamel that makes up teeth and can remove plaque without damaging the enamel.
A 2017 review suggests that toothpaste that contains baking soda may be more effective at reducing the amount of plaque in the mouth than traditional toothpaste.

I've been using baking soda on my teeth since the 1960's. My mother would give us baking soda for brushing about once a week . I often received compliments for my nice teeth. I still use it about once a week even now at 70 years of age and I still receive compliments for my teeth.

I'm 82 years old. I grew up brushing daily with baking soda and regular dental visits. I had 5 silver fillings done in my teen-age years. I never had a cavity since. And the truth is I went through the past 40 years of depresson and serious personal issues and I literally gave up dentists and daily brushing. Well, on my 81st birthday, one of my 68 year old silver fillings fell out! I went to a dentist and he said other than the old silver fillings, I had perfect healthy gums and teeth. Go figure! I think following common dental proceedures makes your teeth rot. Eating CRISP, RAW fruit and vegetables, broccoli, celery, cauliflour, cucumber, apples, carrots, and drinking herbal teas every day is far healthier and more sanitizing ... much better than brushing.

I think it’s partly genetics but I did try the baking soda on my teeth tonight and was amazed! I can totally see how this. Plus be used as toothpaste back in the day. It was so salty but got the coffee stains off my tongue in a way easier way! I also used it when I needed to get self tanner off or yellowing on my fingers from smoking.

@Leah Golden Interesting about brown stain on tongue and fingers. Thanks for posting. As for me it wasn't actually genetic since my parents, grandparents, uncles and aunts had very bad teeth or no teeth.

I've been brushing my teeth with baking soda for many years! When I became homeless and utterly broke, I received food stamps and I couldn't buy toothpaste, but I COULD buy baking soda so that's what I've used. My teeth have suffered a good bit of damage from the loss of fillings, but my gums don't bleed and I don't have bad breath at all. Baking soda has been a life saver.

@TheVirtualNanny Жыл бұрын
@@farhanfadlirahman9533 Actually, I have switched almost completely in the last 4 months from using the toothpaste to using the baking soda-coconut oil mix. Previously, I used to once in two weeks. Also, for teeth whitening, it is highly recommended the carbon powder( please search for extra info). As a disclaimer, I have adopted these remedies especially because I wasn't having any notable results with the toothpaste, so lately I've been trying to repare it with the b. soda, considering it eliminates the bacteria in the mouth and the bad breath due to it. But that’s my personal choice, if you want some expert advice, that will be at the dental clinic 🙂

Use a soft or very soft toothbrush. Hard brushing can damage your gums and lead to much worse issues. I was at the dentist and they were explaining to a surgeon why his gums were so bad and close to a transplant. They told him use a super soft brush and don’t brush hard, which is a habit I had to break myself of as well.

Dr. Mandel you are awesome! I have been watching you now for a few years, oh what a blessing I have so many ailments I have had back surgery twice, left hip replacement, left knee replacement, and so many things that you talked about today I might not would have had to have surgery if I had been noticing you at that time. You have helped me so much with my neck and my upper back, I have a pinched nerve. My doctor won't to surgery again. I don't want that, I am 78 will be 79 in a few months if the Lord blessed!, I want to. live my life out being able to walk around a little and to just enjoy the rest of my life that I have left, and thank the Lord for you' you have told me so many ways that exercise to do different things stretches. Even some vitamins that I did take and one is Alpha Lapolic Acid" it works great, I woke up one morning about two-and-a-half years ago. I was having something like neuropathy in my feet, I could not hardly walk when I would go to the clinics or anywhere else my feet would hurt so bad I would have to walk on the outside of my feet, I would be so ashamed because people would be looking at you when you coming towards them, it would make me so embarrassed I will try to walk down flat on my feet I would be in so much pain. I didn't know what was wrong with my feet. I' awake early one morning I left the TV on. And there was this lady talking about her feet hurting I turned over and began to watch her and listen she was on a program telling about this vitamin that she had been taken, she was talking about how good it made her feel and stopped her feet from hurting, but she said now you can't stop using it cuz you feel better. But you know what I called a friend of ours and ask her if she would please go by the store and pick me up a bottle and bring it to me that day, I also still had sciatica nerve pain real bad in my left hip go all the way down your leg pain, but you know what after about a month or two the pain ceased up a little bit from the sciatica nerve pain my feet got 90% better oh, so I just thought I'd give you my testimony because I listen at you today you are talking about Arm & Hammer baking soda for your teeth. My granny had us using that when I was a little girl coming up now remember how old I am smile. that let you know how long I've been using it it is good, have a blessed day and God continue to bless you.❤❤

I learned about baking soda because I’m a camper and that’s what backpackers use, little weight and gentle to the environment. I don’t backpack anymore but I still tent camp and I’ve been using it for years even at home. Before I started using it I brushed my teeth with regular whitening toothpaste, a little bit fell on my shirt and after washing it I noticed the spots remained like spots of bleach, I realized I was putting that in my system and never gone back. Baking soda it is, just don’t brush hard and the enamel will be fine, I rinse with peroxide diluted with water to whiten my teeth.

As a licensed dental hygienist, I recommend pouring maybe 1/4 cup of baking soda into a separate container and dipping your wet brush into it. I think reintroducing your wet brush into a big box contaminants the box. By the time you use up that big box, it will have quite a bit of bacteria in it. No need to make a slurry out of it, use it right out of the box.

How often do you brush with baking soda? Is it mixed with anything? Does it scratch the enamel or wear it thin? Thanks in advance.
@lilyrose4191
@lilyrose4191 8 ай бұрын
Greetings! I didn't get a notification for these replies 😲 anyhow ... I use baking soda 2 or 3 times a week. If your tooth enamel is thin, I'd be wary of over-using it ... having said that it is used in some commercial products and people aren't aware of it! I sometimes use it plain, but i keep it in a separate jar from the rest of the product in the box. A jar to use as teeth-cleaner only! I also like to use olive oil as cleaner, with the brush and also as a mouth swish. Sometimes I combine it with baking soda. Both are very good for my gum health. If you want to make a natural toothpaste, try this easy recipe: 1/2 a cup of coconut oil with 4 or 5 tablespoons of baking soda and mix together into a paste. Store it in an airtight container/jar. If you want to make a smaller quantity more often try: 4 tablespoons of coconut oil with 2 tbsp of baking soda and add 1 tbsp of hydrogen peroxide and as many drops of cinnamon or clove oil or peppermint oil as you prefer. You can play with the ingredients to make a lesser amount or a bigger amount that suits your needs! The homemade toothpaste is terrific and you know exactly which ingredients are in it! This makes a good product and I like it! Cheers friends 🙂 Btw, I worked as a dental assistant in the past. Dentists truly do get a lot of commercial products pushed at them to promote to their patients/clients. The ingredients of some of those products leave a lot to be desired!
