That's how it goes sometimes going to your trusty local Harbor Freight amirite? Bought a Hercules impact driver and a Bauer 20V cut-off tool. One purchase is amazing, especially for the price. The other runs out of breath doing arts and crafts. Anyone have luck with the Hercules 12V? The Ridgid's currently only $105: amzn.to/3RXHDeK Ryobi currently $83: amzn.to/3xmdA6Q As always, Torque who started this channel is working in product development for Astro tools, who also makes cut-off tools (air) Always consider multiple sources when looking at a tool!

I have the M12 Cut-off tool and used to own the Ridgid for a brief time. Just like you showed us the Ridgid is no slouch and I liked that it came with variable speed on the trigger. The thing would not bog down cutting 3/8" rebar while the M12 Fuel would cut-out a couple times doing the same thing. Why didn't I keep the Ridgid? Well although I liked the tool it was basically the only Ridgid tool I owned and I'm already invested in 3 other platforms so I had to let it go. But I would recommend it to anyone looking to try on another platform or someone just initiating on cordless tools.

I like to think of my m12 like a dental cut off wheel For fabrication the m12 Milwaukee is great even at the lower rated power level due to its size and weight with smaller batteries. My favorite part is that it stops if it’s binding, something the dewalt doesn’t care about and can easily mess up what you’re trying to keep vs what you’re trying to cut away.

I uses Bosch 12V 3 inch angle grinder and recently bought similar cheap 3 inch one from AliExpress for fun. Surprisingly, Bosch turns immediately full speed when trigger is on and stops like half of second, but AliExpress ones need to rev up to full speed like 5 seconds and stop needs 5 seconds also (both brushless). I never used any other power cut off tools so I can't tell what is usual behavior, but Bosch is much safer to use in situations like kick back. I know this channel usually talk about just power, not usability, but maybe it's not all about power. Anyway thank you for testing as usual.

milwaukee 18V and Dewalt 20V actually provide the exact same voltage . mil just rates their batterys on "sustained" Dewalt uses MAX!! voltage.... like fresh of the charger . either way.... they use the same shape and number of cells (its down to the quality/chemistry of each battery) just like 18650 cells are not all the same . some have higher reserve.....AKA, a 1 amp draw will take 2 hours to drain VS 3 hours.... but lower output/lower rate of output..... like can only pull 5 amps on a samsung VS 6 amps on X brand

The only thing I’m not happy with about my DeWalt is that in metal cutting, there’s no guide. If I’m not paying strict attention, I change the angle and don’t cut at 90 degrees. There’s also no way to use a guide for a perfectly straight cut. That’s just on metal, for everything else the removable shield does have a guide. So I like what I see in the Ryobi and Ridged in regards to that.

I had a lot of old pipes and rebar to cut up and from what I read kzfaq.infoUgkxPDBfLu68o58Aw85O_J-zIFfjJARBhp-3 this would be the tool for the job. Since I had never used one, I watched a couple of youtube videos and I'm so glad I did. Some really good safety tips, which I followed, and this tool did a splendid job. One good thing to know is the weight of the tool puts just about the right amount of pressure on the metal I was cutting, so I didn't have to use a lot of pressure, which is more likely to jam the tool. It made fast work of my job.

I was expecting these results since I have the Ridgid one myself, and I can tell you first-hand that before you will stop this tool you're rapidly destroying any blade you'd have on it. I haven't once thought it was underpowered or not strong enough to do anything I wanted to do with it! My only complaint would be though is it blows though wheels much faster than underpowered machines that force you press softer. You have to find that sweet balance between cutting faster or just destroying the wheel instead. I've tried like metal blades with diamond or carbide grit they claimed to be much better but they just don't to cut as well and vibrate much more.

How Milwaukee doesn't have a M18 Cutt off tool yet is really driving me bananas. I am anxious for their Band File though.

So, in my case get the Dewalt or Ridgid with a Milwaukee to X battery adapter so I don't have yet another battery ecosystem.

Glad I have a 3ah hp ryobi battery, it's a shame they stopped making them

Sometimes I think the real reason Ryobi's battery platform hasn't been updated is to limit it's performance relative to Ridgid and Milwaukee.

That's the thing that turned me away from Ryobi a few years ago. The management/motor controller boards seem to be sub-par. I had a 18v brushless hammer drill/driver (P251) and the first one I had was amazing, especially for the price, but I broke it through no fault of the tool after a year or so. So I went right back to Home Depot and purchased another one, and literally that afternoon the electronics let the smoke out while it was under not even a heavy load (IIRC I was drilling a 1/4" hole in mild steel). I took it right back to Home Depot with the magic smoke smell still emanating from it and they just had me grab a new one off the shelf, and that one was much more shy about making power. If I had to guess, it was turned down to 60% of power of the original one I purchased. I eventually got sick of it cutting out constantly and bought a Makita LXT XPH14Z, figuring that was the furthest I could get from a TTI tool.

Nothing goes together better than TTI and cheap unreliable motor electronics

@@Factoryseconds123 Yeah, my original P251 was the first tool that made me go "oh wow these brushless motors are INSANE". It was so torquey and would happily produce full rated torque at really low rpm which was amazing for sensitive work where you wanted to do something demanding, but carefully. Of course like any good thing, it got nerfed because it was 50 cents some bean-counter decided was unnecessary.

What do you guys actually use these for in real world applications? I'm curious. I've only seen them used to trim some sheet metal. I guess it's more controllable than an angle grinder?

Cutting off bolts/studs. Exhaust. Rusted hardware. Fabing 1/4" plate because its quicker to change direction with. Anything dikes won't snip. Angle grinder is for like big time stuff we don't always have space for
