I was 8 the first time I ever saw this video! It was back in summer 2008 and I watched it every day back then. I even drew a picture of this particular crossing. Glad to see it's still up! Thanks for sharing even though this was taken a decade ago. I'm sure this video brings back memories for a lot of railfan's not just me.

The Daylight Limited 4449, first steam locomotive to be greatly know down in history. It was repainted for Union Pacific, Southern Pacific, and the U.S.A. It was also the first locomotive to have a whistle, and diesel horn when known as "The Freedom Train".

Truly amazing video! What a sight that must have been for those cars pulling up to crossing! I can only imagine their response. Actully seeing a train like that at railroad crossing must be an experience one never forgets! I hope to see this train someday soon completely unexpectedly at a railroad crossing wherever I may be.

Used to watch this all the time as a small child (4 years old!) This video put me on the path to become a Train Driver. It's just me but I hate mixed cars. I would love to see a steam locomotive hauling passenger cars that all match. In other words, the daylight is orange and red, so I would like to see the daylight hauling all southern pacific orange and red passenger cars. The Norfolk and Western class J 611 is a passenger train, I would like to see it haul all Norfolk and Western burgundy? passenger cars.

Technically, yes. But it is a very historical one. You never see steamers anymore that are not on tourist routes. It is a running piece of history that survived dieselfication in the 1900s. Next time you see a steamer don’t think “it’s just a train”. Think about all the years it’s been through.
