Thank you, I took classical piano lessons for 7 years and never learned riffs, my dad is going to be thrilled when he hears me play the Boogie Woogie the way my grandmother did when he was a boy...I can't wait to learn more and make my piano rock!

Thanks for slowing the tutorial down. I am sure it must be frustrating but some of us new students need this! Thanks for sharing your skill.

Yes, your videos are exactly the way to learn. The step by step videos that you make give us a chance to absorb. That is how we learn. This slow examples you give in this video yes is much better for the riffs. Yet, keep doing what you do by giving us a little at a time to learn on one video. Please never change that.

I’ve played Boogie for years but this was a great help. Rare for someone to be willing to slow it this much and I loved it. Many thanks

Firstly, great lesson. I don't play piano at all - but I learned these licks. I play a bit of guitar . For years I tried to learn certain Stevie Ray Vaughan songs but I just couldn't get them - why? - I was trying to learn them at normal tempo. The best lesson I ever heard was - when you are learning something , learn it as slowly as you need to play it accurately - and it doesn't matter how slowly that is - as long as it's accurate. Bingo - my playing came on an order of magnitude - I really couldn't believe it . I learned the songs slow & then built up to tempo. You seem really quite annoyed at slowing it all down - you shouldn't be - it opens up the music to those less talented than you - I do not play piano at all - yet I can now play these licks - that is fantastic. Please don't be frustrated - this lesson was great.

Thanks so much Brendan! Now this is EXACTLY what I've been waiting for. The Dr. John riff is my all time favorite!! I call it the "rolly riff"!! Too many times I've seen other instructors on KZfaq repeat a riff 5 times, but not slow enough. If it's not SLOW enough, it's very difficult for us amateurs to get it, no matter how many times we repeat and play back. You are my favorite instructor on KZfaq. No disrespect to the other intructors on here. Keep those (slow) right hand riffs coming!!

Mr. Brendan I wont to thank you for slowing down a little this is a big help too me and I really like when you play at the mall and other places and I have learned a lot just by whatching youand the others play keep it up Thanks Larry from the middle of the US

The variation sounds great. Its also really good that you show these examples so we can connect the sound of it to the actually played pattern and transition it to different riffs. Really good video. Thanks.

Thank you Brendon ... I am a beginner in boogie woogie... I am learning your lessons very seriously .. sometimes it’s frustrating to to get the coordination .. but thank you for your little tips
@budm.14505 жыл бұрын
The only reason I am here to learn thse licks is because you took the time to slow it all down. I'm 72, and a guitar player for more than 55 years, banjo for more than 40 years and can't play anything but single notes "God Save the Queen" on the piano. I can't tell you how much I appreciate you doing it this way even though it frustrates you so much. Thank you so very much, from an old man who's learning the blues and the Boogie Woogie on piano, all because of your kindness.

I ride bicycles and fly small airplanes. Both of those tasks are much harder when done slowly. I can not play piano (yet) but I can only imagine how hard it is to play anything, let alone Boogie Woogie, slowly. I'm sure it's a bit frustrating, but I do appreciate what it must take to do that. Thank you for that, Dr. K. Play on! :)

Thanks for the tip reveirter! with Brendan's earlier lesson, I had to keep hitting pause and then write the chords on paper then take it to the piano and pratice. A long process but it works. But with his new slower version, it's much quicker and you can actually see the keys his fingers land on, yeahhhh!!!

Thanks for your lessons, Brendan! Tips for those of you who think the lessons go too fast: Scroll the whole way down, press "try something new" and press HTML5-video. Then you will be able to slow down all KZfaq videos 50 % (with sound) and 75 % (without sound). And a little lesson request if you ever go out of ideas: The intro to Roll em Pete.

I have been all over the internet and I have bought instructional videos that teach everything except this quintessential piano lick. Even my Johnny Johnson piano video, he didn't break down this lick. Figures I would find it in England lol assuming this is where you shot this video? You my friend are the only one that took the time to break down this lick that isn't hard but when played up to speed is hard to pick it out by ear.

Thanks much for taking the time to slow things down. It does help even though people could just slow down the video. At 5:01 you missed coming back up to the C. Was that intentional or just part of improvising? I am concerned about missing the timing if I do that. Just a heads up, when you refer to your subscribers as moaning it comes across as a bit condescending. 😀

Nope. I'll never get it. The whole concept of improv or add-lib I just don't get. I mean, for starters, it seems to me that in any given key there are notes you use and certain notes you can't, that's what I don't get!
@rickdeeks45693 жыл бұрын
You can never do it slow enough for a complete novice because it’s actually very hard to see the keys. If only they would light up when you press them . Sorry to be a moan
@then3420 Жыл бұрын
I prefer Henri’s tutorials. A lot of yours involve too much ‘oneupmanship’; as in “I’ve really slowed this down for you so even you lot should be able to get this.” Also, he’s a much better pianist than you. You hit quite a few ‘bum’ notes as well. However, I’ll probably carry on watching your videos as their fairly entertaining when one is at a loose end!
