Someone might have suggested this, but if you want to distinguish red oak from white oak in the rough, take a very sharp chisel with you and take just a small shaving off of the end grain. Then ideally use a hand lens or just get really close and shine your phone light on the fresh cleanly shaved spot. You will see small crystals in the pores called tyloses if it is white oak, and they are absent in red oak. I learned this in my wood properties class while earning my forestry degree and it can really help you when you’re looking at a pile of rough sawn oak boards that have been sitting in a barn for 30 years covered in dust.

It is a very good book for beginners as well as for those that are already into kzfaq.infoUgkxTNB_zFBSnTo_O1PqfVUwgi7ityw0JlKt A very good basic ebook to keep as a reference too. I like it and the way the subject matter is presented. It has humor and that helps with the reading.

The brass bow ties turned out well, I like the brushed finish to them. Looking forward to see what other patterns you use the cnc to make, geometric patters would be cool, also think that a “water drops and intersecting ripple” pattern would be amazing

That looks great. I love how the vector pattern ties the drawers and footboard together and the brass lights, bowties, and drawer handles helps bring it all together. Would you mind saying what the material cost was and how many hours it took you to do everything? Just curious.

I've been following you for quite some time, but never commented. I think you are extremely skilled. Your woodworking machines allow you to make fairly advanced furniture/buildings. I like that you use resin for a kind of "intarsia", it enhances the overall impression a lot. I like the most when you build/create your furniture yourself, without the participation of anyone else. If I haven't written anything, I've liked everything since you posted "Impossible Origami Folding Door". Please, show measures in metric for us outside of US.

Love, love, love the texture, wavey pattern!! I am not a fan of the brass bow ties, I would prefer a contrasting wood, but then those crazy lights would look out of place, so I know why you did that. It's just I don't like the lights either. They are cool, I think it's the brass.

But I have also had great success using the cotton white Rubio and getting an almost white oak look out of red oak. I know Rubio is your go to finish (mine too). Size matters. Since I'm living with my GF, now wife, we went all the way from 140cm, 160cm to 200cm directly. I always have my 50cm, but my wife always wants it bigger! Now to the build - I was at first skeptical when I saw the wavy CNC pattern design - but then seeing it in reality - man, that's a great-looking pattern on a beautiful wood! It doesn't need to be a walnut all the time! I actually love oak even more.

Hey - if she likes it that’s all that really matters! Personally I’d have done wood inlays for the bow ties. Not sure if contrasting or matching wood as it would depend on slab. I’d have done a contrasting or complimenting wood rather than the CNC carving but that’s partly because I don’t have a CNC router. I love those reading lights. Might have gone brushed stainless over brass but again that’s just personal preference for subtle over shiny.
