Am I the only one who is actually enjoying him reporting about what’s going on in the city, the conditions and the financial situations for apartment renters and owners as well as all the citizens in an around the city? I actually enjoy the news reporting more than the original tours of apartments. If your daily commute includes tolls, and you compare your monthly toll bill versus how much a no plate or plate cover ticket costs in your state, it's pretty clear why people are doing this. I just want to point out that the truck where the plate was under the lift gate, thats a fairly normal place to stick the license plate on those trucks. When I worked for Penske truck rental almost all the trucks had their plates mounted there. Ya i get its hard to see it for a camera, but its in full view to meet the law that states it must be visible for DOT/police. Also for the USPS van, they dont need plates, a Post Master explained that one to me. The ID number on the van (seen in the video briefly on the upper side of the left rear door) is how the post office tracks the vans and deals with registration, no need to stamp out thousands of US Government plates for the mail trucks.

NY has never managed to fix it and only keeps finding new ways to charge people. Trust me, no matter how much they raise, they will not improve the transit. But we will hear in a couple years that the price has to go up anyway. The same thing happened with water rates here. Water used to be free. Then they started charging because "we need money to fix the aged infrastructure." At some point they raised the rates and continue to raise the rates because "people have cut back on water usage". These are revenue generating programs for NYC, no matter what other goal they claim. By the way, the water infrastructure is still breaking down.

As a Euopean I've tried to say the same things many times in "Not just bikes" videos... That the idealized narrative he sells only really works if you're a upper-middle or upper-class citizen. This is what's happening in many European cities: - 1. It always starts with NIMBY building policies to prevent new construction to preserve the "identity" of the city. - 2. After housing and rent prices have gone through the roof they remove public infrastructure like street parking for residents, which disproportionally affects the working class who are most likely to to need a vehicle for their job, or they work in areas with poor public transport options. The upper-middle class is most likely to work in the city centre in areas that have great public transport, or that can be easily accecable by bike, as well as being much more likely to live in new construction that has built in underground parking, or is able to afford underground parking near where they live. Or they are just straight up rich enough to own houses with garages within the city. - 3. When the working class have moved out of the city due to sky-high rent and no street parking, they gentrify the area for the rich upper middle class. - 4. The working class who were first forced out of the city now have to commute back in for work, leading to a huge increase in congestion in and out of the city. - 5. They put up toll booths on roads leading in and out of the city, disproportionally punishing those working class people who no longer could afford to live there, but still have to commute in for work. TLDR; It's cheap to be rich, and expensive to be poor.

At least in most of the Europe you have incredibly convenient public transportation, to and from the bigger cities. US and NYC has completely dysfunctional systems in place. So if you are outside of the city, transportation is often out of the question. There are hundreds of thousands of people entering Manhattan just from New Jersey every day (which is just across the river), yet the most recent infrastructure project to connect to NYC was complete in 1930s. These are overcrowded and often fail :/ Lincoln tunnel: 1937, Holland tunnel: 1927, North River train tunnel 1908, George Washington bridge: 1931, Path train tunnels: 1908. And don't get me started on healthcare :/

@@Oysteims Absolutely. I've been driving in NYC for last 15+ years, and honestly if it was about congestion, they would regulate Lift and Uber services instead - 8 out of 10 cars in Manhattan traffic are now T&L cars. I assume you are in Norway, and if you are disappointed with what is going on there, you would be outraged with what is going on in NYC or US in general. I just came back from Denmark, where once more I was reminded how efficient the transportation can be, and how messed up it is in US. US is great for rich, young and healthy. Everybody else... not so much.

@@Oysteimsexcess traffic is caused by too many people in one area. A combination of poor border controls and failure ti build new cities to accommodate a growing population. There’s vast areas of undeveloped land nobody is using for farming. But it is easier to tax people for living their lives so the councils and local authorities can continue to squander money on vanity projects 🤢

Newyork did it to itself, adding so many businesses that cannot survive without pulling in more people than the local residences can support, then providing homeless service and rent caps for those who can't afford to live in such an expensive neighborhood. It is better to not stack humans this way without adding adequate transit lanes.

Working downtown is expensive enough already. Fuel. Parking. Insurance, etc. What a joke.

I will never understand why anyone would want to live in a major city, and why corporations are still stupid enough to have operations there.

The best thing is channels like NotJustBikes or whatever that try to force suburbs to become cities and talk about how awful freedom is. There is a legit group of people that want to be imprisoned in a city with no ability to leave

Corporations are apart of all this, they lobbied for an increased population plus backroom deals with politicians.

The big corporations don't pay the high taxes, they all negotiate loopholes to operate nearly tax free. Even if it means giving the money to a "woke" charity run by a shell company that has people connected to higher-ups in said corporation in their salaried directorship. Only the sucker goes to these people's schools, lives in their mega cities and works at a pointless job in one of their corporations. Get out while you can.

Generally for living because density makes it easier to do things like walk and take transit, meet people. It gives you the freedom to have a night out without having to worry about parking, who's going to stay sober, or paying $80 to lyft to and from. Not to mention density means more economic opportunity, more job options that sort of thing. For businesses it's the same deal, more foot traffic, more prospective customers, more prospective talent, zoning codes that allow for developments that fit their needs. There are all kinds of reasons you'd want to be in a big city.

Across the pond, London has been doing something similar for a few years now. THEY MONITOR EVERY VEHICLE THAT ENTERS THE CITY AND WHEN THEY LEAVE (Besides having cameras EVERYWHERE that the police monitor.) Big Brother is alive and well.

NYC has this on all entries. Now if I want to visit, I fly in to McGarthur airport or take the ferry from the mainland.
