i think it could be possible if an anime movie were done instead of a series. Theyd have to put a lot of work into it, but it can be done. I think Uzumaki would make a good candidate, as the live action movie didnt do it justice. Gyo was total garbage and the team who made it were in way over their heads, so that would be an example of the "wrong" way to adapt an ito story, and should be observed and studied so that they wouldn't make those same mistakes again.

Dude, I tried out Pun Pun for the first time because of this video and I'm gonna say this... It is one of the FEW series that not only made me stop reading to collect myself, it also made me cry and the amount of times my jaw DROPPED, is alot. Seriously, read the series if you're like me and never heard of it. Like holy shit...it hits HARD but you can't help but LOVE the characters.

I read No Longer Human by junji ito and it traumatized me, and i read a bit of oyasumi punpun i got similar vibes and had stop because i was afraid that it will be the same. So i got ask amoung the two witch is more brutal.

Yotsubato! is hands down one of my top 5 mangas of all time. That shit is so cute. I tried explaining why it's so good to my friend but you're right, its way more how the narrative goes that it wouldn't translate very well into an anime.

Psyren is actually what got me into anime. I read manga before I watched anime and my stepdad showed me Psyren, so I decided to read it and fell in love. I actually made an essay in 6th grade English that was basically a rip off of Pysren but changed some of the story elements and the names. Yes I did get an A on it

Anime will make that manga becomes more popular because more people know about it through anime. Anime is a good way to introduce manga, and why mangaka don't want their manga is animated? Some of them always dream about it, they will be famous if their manga becomes one of the most popular in the world, some fans just want to watch anime, not manga.

As someone who gets bored to tears seeing most slice of life stuff, I absolutely love Yotsuba&!. It captures the feeling of childhood through the lens of an adult so well, and I laugh out loud every chapter. It's really the only one I like, and would recommend anyone give it a shot.

The fire ice brothers 6 my favorite manga of all time, fair warning, it is NOT for everyone, it’s a dark and eerily real coming of age story that explores hard issues of depression and abuse (weather that be physical, sexual or emotional) If you relate to the characters it forces you to confront yourself, Hiding in public did a few great video essays on it around a year ago and in it he admits that after he finished the last volume, he contemplated suicide for the first time in a long time. The way I described the first few volumes is the extesential philosophy of Evangelion combined with the melancholic feeling of your lie in April but it grows into much more. It’s not perfect, at times it can seem a bit edgy and in your face but overall I think it’s worth the read

just a kind reminder to you guys if you've been a manga reader of basically any mangas out there and only read the translation made by some scanlation group in internet due to language barrier while that certain manga has no English official trans (which is understandable) please consider to buy the copy in Japanese to respect and support the mangaka since those artists tend to fully depend on that =)

Kimetsu no yaiba has a funky art style and movement. I was skeptical about it becoming an anime at first, and somehow it became a fantastic anime. Anything is possible when a studio is given a OP amount of money.

Just want to point that Vagabond is an adaptation itself, from a novel about Musashi Miyamoto written by Eiji Yoshikawa, and being a story about one of the most famous figures of the samurai and bushido, there are many works about Musashi already, including a trilogy of films also based on the Musashi novel starring legendary actor Toshiro Mifune.

For me I love Yotsuba, it have emotion and amazing character building. I guess there’s some chapter which is boring and from the start there wasn’t any story progress. But it’s worth wild if u are into slice of life or going for a relax feel from all the action

Oyasumi Punpun was legitimately life-altering for me. The deep, dark, complicated and sympathetic-yet twisted way Inio Asano writes and draws the darkness of the characters in that manga is just fucking jaw-droppingly excellent. That manga had a measurable impact on the way I see the world and the things I value in life. It was one of those reads for me where you when you're finished you're just sat there in a goddamn trance just soaking in what you've read in silence. Hands down one of the best things I've ever read and I don't ever think it will even get the chance to adapt to anime and if it did it would be a travesty. Also Analysis in Punpun is needed.

Junji ito like to bend his world to fit the threat which is why it's so creepy for example in uzumaki everyone becomes obsessed with the spiral and in gyo people act really weird towards the fish same for tomie it's really terrifying how the existential villain bends reality to his liking

Totally agree on Vagabond. And in terms of realistic details, if you ever do another 10-manga-that-don't-need-anime video, you should check out Otoyomegatari by Kaori Mori. The detail of research and design in that title are so good, that I sometimes get the feeling like i have travelled to the mentioned places themselves. As much as I adore it, i cannot see it butchered in anime.

Joey has really pushed me so hard to check out *Oyasumi Punpun* at this point. I think I am definitely gonna check it out ASAP! I think I first heard about it in his "The OFFICIAL Top 100 Manga Of All Time (According To The Internet) Is Actually Surprising..." video last year, but at the time I wasn't really into Manga or reading in general. But I have finally started getting reading Manga/Manhwa/Webtoons and so when I recently watched this video and his "My GIANT $5,000 Manga Collection" video I looked it up and to be surprised it was among the Top 10 or 20 Manga of all time on MAL and I was just so oblivious to it. So thanks a lot Joey, for always promoting it in your videos. Bcoz I don't know about the others but you definitely got me interested in it enough to finally check it out. 😁👍

New subscriber to ya channel (awhile ago actually) and I am so intrigued by all these manga that I’m gonna literally check out each one. Manga lately has been like so peaceful for me to get into and as an artist myself I learn a lot from them. Especially horror mangakas like junji ito, that’s my favorite genre of all time and I always love his stuff. Thanks for the great topic and video. I’ve never heard of Hakaiju, Nejimaki, Misumisou (I love styles like this one specifically), and oysumi punpun. So if you’ll excuse me while I throw myself in a dungeon with these mangas for awhile.

This made me think of The Junji Ito collection - Ito's work depend on his meticulous art and the way he does the pages and the panels. The anime just showed the story, and so it just wasn't what makes Ito so great. And yes, that 10th one was my first thought. It's too weird AND too fucked up. I mean, you didn't mention he's drawn as a fucking bird. It's so cleverly done and it would be very difficult to translate that to a different medium.
