Ok. We need a Netflix series dramatizing the life of Rutherford

Considering this information about Rutherford, it shouldn't really surprise anyone that this organisation has produced so much misery and dysfunction.

Rutherford’s takeover of WT kind of reminds me of David Miscavige’s takeover of Scientology.

What a complete sham JW's are great people but so mislead. My Wife, Stepson, Brother and his Family are great people but mislead. My wife is actually at lunch with a bunch of JW's because it was her service group's turn to feed the speaker. I am so glad I was disfellowshipped and then started looking into the cult. Lawyers are power hungry individuals. Many government officials are lawyers. How Rutherford felt he was above the law is a disgrace. Today, Watchtower's lawyers are as power hungry as Rutherford. Using the law to circumvent other peoples rights is also a sham.

I don't know if this will be mentioned in part 2, but regarding his power grab and under his leadership, he managed to retain the loyalty of only 25% of all Bible Students. So while he was quite the Machiavellian politician, he was a lousy leader.

I can't wait for the second part, Lloyd. I love the pointed list of "awkward" facts. When he died, his successor, Nathan Knorr was quoted as exclaiming, "Papa has departed this world". Talk about yucky reverence. And JWs claim they don't look up to fellow humans. Does Part 2 cover the awkward fact that Rutherford attempted to stamp out reverence for Russell whose grieving followers sought to emulate? It is no coincidence that Rutherford surrounded himself with clean-shaven men with not a beard in sight and he was sarcastic and scathing of older brothers who sported beards a la Russell. In fact, you can trace JW organization's frowning upon beards back to Rutherford's drive to purge any trace of veneration of Russell. "We don't worship men," he thundered - even whilst allowing Witnesses of the day to hang onto his every word. Rutherford was a truly loathsome human being.

Rutherford played adultary, drinking and watched from his villa in california the end off time. Later on the 3e president Nathan Knorr said : Hé make a jackass off himselve!

I recall an assembly back home where one of the branch reps gave a talk, he was discussing the fact that sisters tended to like short skirts (major point of dispute) and said that as a farm boy he noticed that when the cows go in heat they lift up their tails.....powerful comparison I'd say which didn't go down very well with the sisters in the audience. Only when I left the cult I realised how distorted my view of women was.

I found out this year Beth Sarim was built in 1929(it says it on the property and official records) before The Great Depression and before Beth Shan which was built with an accompanying bomb shelter in 1939 and that is the one primarily shown being built in your video clip as it's across Montezuma Avenue in San Diego from where the Beth Sarim home still stands today in San Diego, CA, USA. I researched that a sports radio talk show host in San Diego named Michael Costa owns part of what was the Beth Shan property purchasing it from the previous owners in 2015. An obscure book I purchased that have records of this is called "Jehovah's Witnesses: Their Monuments To False Prophecy" by authors Edmond C. Gruss and Leonard Chretien. Another good one is "Millions of Ex-Jehovah's Witnesses: Many Reasons They Left", also by Edmond C. Gruss.

Actually, William Henry Conley was the first president of Zion's Watch Tower Tract Society, from 1881 to 1884. In December 1884, the Society was incorporated with Charles Taze Russell as president. In 1896, the Society was renamed Watch Tower Bible and Tract Society, and later became associated with Jehovah's Witnesses.

Thanks for this video! I don’t know what it was about this video in particular that made me go “There’s no way this religion is the truth, this religion is awful” I had been doubting this religion for years and felt guilty for doing so, the thought that this religion was actually, well, a cult stuck with me after I saw some ex jws comments on an article that mentioned Jehovah’s witnesses saying it was actually a cult for their views on blood transfusions and shunning. I felt a little shocked because to me shunning was always shown as a good thing that would help them turn back to Jehovah, I never actually looked at it from the point of view of the person being shunned. I felt doubt but I never looked deeper into the claims they made because I felt like I’d be betraying God if I did, then this video came up in my recommendations and I decided to watch it. I have no idea why this video in particular made me finally realize how messed up this religion is, but thank you for it!

It is also not mentioned very often that Rutherford kept two V12 Cadillacs at Beth Serim for his own personal use, paid for by donations. In today's money that would be about the same as having a pair of Bentleys. All the while his followers are penniless due to the Great Depression.

Love your channel! I was raised JW, but dabbled in other denominations as a teenager before finally becoming an athiest (thank god!). My father's side of the family is 100% JW still. I knew their beliefs were silly, but didn't realize just how crazy they were until I started watching your videos. Seeing your video on the Revelation book brought back so many memories. I remember all of the pictures vividly because my parents read it to me and my sisters when we were little, and of course we all believed them..

It's no wonder JW's are given little to no truth on their founding fathers and how the entire organization came to be! It is completely based on men over times preferences. For the average Joe off the street today to join without being born in is ridiculous. Most would do the tiniest research and know that this is not "the truth". Rutherford looks suave... a dandy. Craved power... lived luxuriously... drank alcohol a lot.... autocratic controller. In my opinion only... l suspect he was homosexual.

I mean in the context of the paragraph about adultery you took the quote from; he's already committed a form of a sin. In the case of being able to take a male nurse or arrange one to travel with you instead of a female, his decision should be brought into question? Or treated as if the adultery occurred anyway. Surely he should have been at least strongly counselled on that? If a sister was to do something like that it would end her. And the mansion? This guy is a conman, and a good one seeing as he doesn't seem to have a drop of decency in him.

What kills me is that Watchtower tells you not to look up information they dont give you because it can be from apostates. A lot of this stuff you can go see for yourself without KZfaq. Like Russell's grave (which is really weird) and Beth-siram which is now a California historic site I believe. The information on Beth-siram is public knowledge but so many people either dont know or stay blind.

Beth Sarim I’d have more respect for JW if they still had the Mansion. The fact that they got rid of it seems lame.
