Andre never having been slammed, or being undefeated for that matter, before facing Hogan at Wrestlemania 3. Look around the WWE archives for an 1981 match between the 2 of them, and Hogan delivers a muh cleaner slam to Andre than the one we'd see 5 years later...

They made a pretty big deal out of it headed into X-7 (first time it was actually part of the build, which annoyed me since I thought HHH was gonna win). Plus even though it wasn't mentioned in the build, I'm fairly sure he put up 8 fingers after the match to signify the continuation of the streak. It was a thing by that point.

I love how WWE and their marks think WCW "ripped off" Stone Cold, when WWE didn't even create the character. It was ECW that created the Stone Cold Steve Austin character, and WWE just imported him from there. He came up with the Stone Cold after leaving ECW, but before signing with WWE, and he developed the look and mannerisms while in ECW. WWE didn't do anything to create the character.

We’ll never know how tall Andre the Giant really was during his prime, he stated himself that he was 214cm or 7 foot. One of Andre’s managers stated Andre was measured at 7’1, and Harley Race said Andre was measured at 7’2. So we’ll never truly know the true peak of Andre’s height.

Vince took his time with Stone Cold. Bret and Shawn were still the main eventers in 1996. Vince strategically placed the Tag Belts, IC Belt on Stone Cold, and then waited until the right moment to make Steve the WWF champion at WrestleMania. Look at what happened with Goldberg when he became world champ in WCW. It wasn't at Starrcade, just a Nitro without any real build up. Timing is everything.

Ruthless Aggression Era is a myth too - The Attitude era existed due to specific WWF Attitude branding and Vince's announcement of a new philosophy for the brand to accompany it at the end of 1997. In 2002 with the Get the F out campaign, the Attitude era was finished; and the WWE brand was born. After that, there wasn't any special era, it was just plain old WWE.

I am insane, but I just had a quick look. The seating appears to be groupings of 10 rows of 8 seats each. This in turn are arranged in what can at nearest be described as a 6 x 7 arrangement. Thus 80 seat per group, times 42 groups is around 3300. If you add a few extras on each, maybe 4000 on the in field. Thoughts?

The Wrestlemania 3 93,000 number was ATTENDANCE, not tickets sold or fans in the seats. The arena was full to the maximum. Bruce Prichard had a heated argument with his co-host over this. There were 93,000 in "attendance". That included WWF employees and Pontiac Silverdome employees. Those people were at WM3, therefore, they were in attendance at the event. Bruce was arguing WWF didn't lie about the number since they never actually claimed it was 93,000 tickets sold or 93,000 fans in the crowd.

Hey Simon Miller and What Culture. You made a mistake! Undertaker did NOT defeat Jake The Snake Roberts by countout. He gave him a Tombstone on the outside of the ring, then threw him back in and got the 1-2-3 pinfall. Also, that was a great little match that was as good as it could have been in just 8 minutes. Nice little story and good ring psychology. I always think of it as the first official big win of "The Streak," and the third best match of WrestleMania 8 behind Macho/Flair and Piper/Bret. Give that match another look please.

Here are some you missed: - Hulk Hogan being the first to slam Andre at WrestleMania 3 (when Andre was slammed many times before that). - WrestleMania being a one-of-a-kind innovation for the business, when the first Starrcade happened 2 years before the first 'Mania. - WrestleMania 32 having 100,000 people, when it only had about 80,000. - WWE always puts the fans first, when even today, it's been proven that they only do what makes them money.

It's all relative, but I'd still argue that the highs were more consistently high (Austin v. McMahon, the Harts, DX stuff, etc), whereas the lows (your Choppy Choppy (still a fun angle) and Mae Young's hand) were so minor that they didn't really have an impact on the overall quality and feel of the programming. People also like to harp on the whole match length thing and lack of workrate, but in WWF especially, workrate was never really emphasized in WWE (and in a lot of places) until the Ruthless Aggression era, and a lot of the shift was to compensate for declining creative. What they were doing at the time, especially from 97 through early 99, worked. It's ok to say it. Re: WCW being foolish to release Austin, et al. You narrow it down to just those 3 guys, but a lot of it was symbolic of an overall problem -- the reliance on Hogan and established WWF names at the expense of up-and-coming talent. Austin in particular is problematic because at the time you could see that he was being groomed for a top spot, only to be shoved aside in the fall of 94 once Hogan and his friends came into the picture. As a one off, losing Austin alone wasn't going to kill them, but it was the beginning of a trend that arguably caused their downfall, as seen with guys like Jericho, the Radicals, Big Show and others later hit the glass ceiling and couldn't rise due to politics, creative control clauses, and so on. Re: Austin 3:16: I've seen at least one other person try to argue this, and I have no clue why. WWE has NEVER suggested that he began selling out arenas overnight. That said, he debuted in January. Prior to KOTR, he was in a lower mid-card feud with Savio Vega. Within TWO WEEKS of the win, he started his program with Bret Hart, the most recent WWF Champion. By Survivor Series, he was co-main event. That's a huge bump up the card anyway you slice it. You focus on the fact that he wasn't featured on Raw every week, but neither was HBK (the champ at the time). TV back then wasn't structured the way it is now. You only had an hour show, 3 weeks of Raw aired taped, and the whole notion of every star appearing every week (which began in the Attitude Era) hadn't become a thing yet. KOTR definitely changed things for Austin, and that promo was huge even at the time.

@@hypn0298 the 80s had the problem have having bodybuilders that couldn't wrestler, the attitude era was the golden age of the WWE, the 80s were the golden age of all the other wrestling companies of the time. The only highlights I can think of for the 80s really were from AWA or WCW, WWE matches were only special for the tag matches with the Rockers and Hart Foundation, ever other big match of the time was gimic like The Dragon vs Macho Man was only good because of Macho Man cheating most of the match is Macho Man trying to avoid the Dragon

78,000? BALDERDASH! Fine, I can believe that the Silverdome didn't have 93,000 people but I didn't see a single empty seat in the stands. I can see there being a couple thousand sitting around the ring and that would put it st 82,000.

There's also the fact that Pope John Paul II packed the Silverdome with 93,682 in September '87 - six months after Wrestlemania III and its claimed 93,173. But maybe the Vatican is lying, too. :)

Look again there were plenty of empty seats. The dull blue seats made it look misleading. Turns out they tended to look like people wearing blue jeans, which is likely was what 95% were wearing.

Another big one ... they sell their women’s evolution around the idea that Trish vs Lita was the first time the women headlined Raw and it changed how women were seen on the card. 1) Sable vs Luna Vachon closed out a Raw in 98. 2) they were still wrestling in chocolate pudding 3 years after the Trish/Lita match and 3) it only happened cos the PPV that month was Smackdown branded and they had very little going on that needed to go last on Raw!!

Shawn and Scott Hall were bitched out backstage after that ladder match too. It was supposed to end earlier and they decided to keep it going, so WWE had to eliminate another match completely, to make up the time.

Actually a quick rebuttal mr. Simon the undefeated streak of The undertaker was noted at WrestleMania 14 in his match against Kane, however the commentators did messed up by saying it started with Jake the Snake Roberts. Undertaker also acknowledged his streak at WrestleMania 18 after he defeated Ric flair so Viva la Bam

_"How's anyone supposed to see it?"_ Ah I dig that 'Chiefly British' humour we share. As for biggest myths, the two greatest falsehoods from the considerably large 'E' have to be: *1) Hulkamania is a Vince McMahon creation/was born in the WWF* - WhatCulture Wrestling actually debunked this nicely in a video (albeit while reenforcing it in others!) but it is unequivocal that everything Hulkamania aside from the specific colour scheme was fully formed in the AWA. The only debate should be how much was Hogan's input and how much was Verne Gagne - Vince simply purchased the act, no assembly required. McMahon should receive credit for pushing him as the top babyface star where old man Gagne was stubborn and set in his ways about what a real wrestler looks like. *2) Vince McMahon Jr. made wrestling massively popular/before his national takeover, wrestling wasn't a major attraction* - I was late in learning this but regional territorial wrestling was absolutely huge and a far bigger part of each region's culture before the territories died out. Obviously WWF/E spread itself across more markets but it's always been far less of a draw than the regional promotions it replaced. Wrestling was bigger _before_ Vincent K went national, he just flourished because he combined each smaller market share and took all the profits rather than numerous different promoters competing for them.

Picture of Vince Russo when talking about Eric Bischoff. Jim Cornette puts WCW's demise squarely on the shoulders of Jim Herd and his decision making. Andre the Giant losing his first match to Hulk Hogan at Wrestlemania III is also a long-held myth, as are the home countries of a cross-section of many a 'foreigner', past & present (Kamala, Nikolai Volkoff, Santino Marella, Jinder Mahal, Lana and so on).
