I am a Michigander and we all loved Probert! We still love him, he is a legend. We also know how hard his addictions were. Thanks, Dani, for opening up and sharing the struggles.

Grew up a huge Probert fan. I remember having a paper route and reading about his motorcycle accident and how it was over for him with the Wings. I was devastated. Developed a heroin addiction in my mid 20s and when I got sober I used the story of Probert challenging a fan to a sobriety contest in the late 80s/early 90s as inspiration and pretended he challenged me. I've been sober since 2011. Thanks Probie, you helped save my life.

What a great segment. I was fortunate to have the big man live at my house when he played Junior A in Brantford. Little did I know at the time that he would go on to become one of the most beloved hockey players of all time. Looking back, I have many fond memories and many stories about living with Big Bob

Leaf fan but loved Probie. Man, he could bring it, and play! Respect to my man Wendel for always stepping up. I’m an alcoholic, did some drugs. Sober 32 years though, I understand the struggle. RIP Bob. Not a Harley fan really, but biking 51 years. Righteous send off. Hope she and the kids are good. Bob seemed like me, Dad who couldn’t say no to a daughter.😂

Proberts fight with Dave Samenko 1987 or 88 I recall a passing of the Guard in Tough guy NHL era. Bob was uncanny in his staying power and strength during a fight. I have never seen a player finish as strong he many not always land first but often landed last and hard. He could also score too.

I started watching hockey in 1983 as a youngster. I immediately fell in love with the Wings. Seeing Yzerman and Probert out there dominating made me enjoy and appreciate hockey. My first two jerseys were Probert and Stevie. I have one of the world's best Probert card collection. I've watched or listened to just about everything I can on Probert, as he is and always be my favorite player of All-Time. Thanks so much for this amazing podcast. These heart warming tales only affirm why all us in Michigan (especially the Yoop), loved Probie. Thanks, again!

Hello Chris, First off, it is great to see you doing so well. It was only yesterday, that I watched your podcast with Grapes, and I enjoyed it immensely. Prior to this I was unaware you were hosting one. Your interview skills are amazing, as good as any career journalist I have ever seen. The questions you asked were very respectful on what is a delicate and sensitive topic. I admire Dani for being so open, I expect your relationship and history with the Probert family helped play a role in putting her at ease. The stories you shared about Bob brought a smile to my face. Although I never had the pleasure of meeting him; whenever I saw him interviewed he always came across as so darn likable! Especially, the one year when he was interviewed during the Holiday Season and was asked about his Christmas Wish, to which he replied (with a smile on his face), “My two front teeth” and he was even willing to sing it. I want to give my heartfelt thanks to you and Bob and all the NHL Alumni who travelled abroad to visit our Canadian Troops, be it to Afghanistan and any other “Hot Spot” you ventured out to. Our Troops love the tough guys, Tiger, Knuckles and Probie and the rest! I wish you continued success. Fred

For the young man, I can tell you that one time I told somebody I didn’t wanna go to meetings anymore that I did I didn’t really get a lot out of it and he looked at me and he said well dummy if you’re not getting anything out of it perhaps the person that’s listening to you share is getting something out of it and that is your job because you don’t just leave the second you get sober it’s not your job to help the next guy and that really stuck with me it really is an amazing organization it’s just a bunch of messed up people helping other messed up people for no money for nothing and it’s actually a place you’ll find some of the happiest people in the world because they all realize just how lucky they are and believe it or not the whole AA thing when you have to examine yourself it is a brutal and difficult process but you make all these admissions to a complete stranger basically and then that person looks at you and says are you done do you have it all out is that it is there anything else and then maybe you tell them some more and eventually when you’re done you say that’s it and they make you make a list of all this stuff and then the guy I was talking to said OK great and we walked over to a trashcan and he took my list and he lit it on fire he said that is the past now all we do from this moment on is one day at a time. I remember meeting him and saying how am I going to stay sober for the rest of my life and he looked at me and he said how the hell would I know but can you stay sober for today and I said I don’t know he said how about for the next hour I said I don’t know just how about for the next five minutes I said yeah I can do that he said good then let’s go get some coffee in before you knew it a couple hours and past then he said can you go home and stay sober till the morning yes and then in the morning she called me and we went to more meetings and before you knew it I had a week put together and then a month then six months then a year and now a decade he still laughs with me for the initial question of how am I going to stay sober for the rest of my life I think about sharing your stories as you may think they’re stupid you may think they’re not helpful but I had a guy come up to me once and say you know what you shared last week you kept me from drinking today and that certainly had an impact on me anyway all the best to everybody out there in recovery

Probie was one of my favourite players of all time. He was the best fighter for years, and he could play. He had 29 goals one year. If he hadn't missed 7 games he probably would have hit 30.

I hung out with Probie one night after a Cubs game.... He was just at the bar by himself, I was being goofy and telling jokes to these chicks - and we just started talking, and he wanted to go to another bar and he invited me and these chicks to roll with him - then we partied all night, got a hotel room - then kept on partying... Then when I woke up in the morning (afternoon) Bob was gone.. Look this was like 20+ years ago, and I was in my early 20's when this interaction happened.... And I knew who he was because I'm a diehard Hawks fan, I just figured maybe he would just like to be treated as a normal dude instead of his celebrity - not Bob Probert the hockey player - but just a regular dude...I remember asking him "hey, what's your name man?" - I knew it was Probert..... Look, he was a genuinely nice guy, he clearly wanted company around him - and you know, I was happy to hang with him - but you could tell he was troubled by something tho, like there was something on the back of his mind he couldn't shake that he was concerned about - like he was having a fun time hanging out but was focused on something else.... Look, I don't know, the dude was awesome to me, he was super nice and he got us a hotel room, and I ended up in a relationship with one of the chicks I met at the bar, so my life would probably have been much different had Probie not just asked us random bar people if we wanted to go bar hopping and hang out.. Also, I hung out with Bill Murray too, he's a hoot - He just randomly walked into this Northwestern frat party - It was bizarre - we were drinking until the sun came up, and seriously he said "no one will believe you" haha...I suppose that's how it goes when you live in the Chicagoland area... And the crazy part is that it turns out that Bill Murray's sister is a Nunn, who was my mom's 3rd grade teacher... I'd bet Bill Murray could get away with anything he wants to..... I mean if he robbed a bank - no one would believe it... lol... seriously..

I met Bob, when I was a teenager, in the 80s. He was with Harold Snepts , at a Total gas station off of I-96. It was a get some gas, get a Red Wings glass and autograph. They were sitting at a folding table, in the parking lot. These 2 Wings, just sitting there. Unbelievable! Lol. They were both so nice and I'll never forget it.

Growing up in southwest Michigan, not even a caution light in my town still today, us kids played hockey on frozen lakes. At the age of 18 I joined the Marine corps in 1983, pretty tough group of lads to start your life out on, my 4 years of service ended in 1987, in 1986 when I'm in the barracks I got my buds from the northern states coming to me asking who in the hell is this big probert! Lol, marines tend to lean to the direction of guys that are not afraid, lol, we would call it out in training missions if they want to go, we will drop the gloves! I'm praying that I have overcome my alcohol addiction which started when I was in the Marine corps, I thank all of you 3 for posting this video, your helping simple folks like myself, thank you, scott

Probie was immensely popular in Michigan. After the Wings won their first Cup in my lifetime, I went to the home opener the next year. I did an unofficial count of jerseys the fans were wearing. I didn't write it down or anything, but just kind of took a mental note as I looked around. Easily the most popular jersey was Yzerman. The 2nd was Shanny. 3rd was Probie. He hadn't played for the Wings in about 3 years by this time. He played for a division rival. Yet his jersey was the 3rd most popular, behind only two very popular guys who were currently on the team. I've told this story before, and some people challenge me and say Federov and McCarty. I can only go by what I saw. I took note of McCarty. He beat the snot out of Lemieux and was also very popular. Even not writing it down or anything- I did take a lil extra note of Probie vs McCarty. A lot more people were wearing Probert jerseys than McCarty ones. As for Federov, after being real popular when he first got there cuz of his escape to get to Detroit, he lost some of his luster until the Wings actually won. It wasn't like people hated him, but until the title the Russians were kind of symbolic of lots of talent but no ring.

I have to say this. Dani Probert speaks for every wife that deals with a husband that has an addiction. She says what a woman doesn't want to say out loud, as a spouse trying to hold a family together. Tim was right to want to cry. All of us that have addiction issues see our wives in her. That's why it hurts. But it's good to hear. But I still got emotional watching, like Tim.

It’s amazing what a woman will endure to stay financially secure. I have never drank or done drugs, come from a great family but have never earned more than 40k a year. Coached our 3 kids in hockey and baseball, worked 5am-2pm then rushed home to make all the dinners so when everyone came home from activities supper was ready. That wasn’t enough. Wife wanted a divorce. Years later I tried dating still no luck. Young men focus on making money when you are young. That’s what they want. Vacations, travel, and a pleasure lifestyle. You can be a lousy dad and irresponsible but if you bring home the dough your wife will keep you. Amazing.
