Nice one Sam.. I find crew more stressful :) solo its just u, weather, boat... my biggest mistake is not eating and resting enough. still not able to sleep down below underway, snooze up in spray hood.. also bailed on Pentland last august and pushed through canal and followed you down to port edgar.

Very interesting Sam, thank you. It seems to me that a lot of considerations are shaped by peoples need to get somewhere in a certain time. If you have leisure to do it for as long as it takes, it would make life a lot easier....

Thanks for watching, the considerations are with the intention of completing the trip inside a summer. Its good to visit as many places as possible however you could probably spend quite a few seasons exploring each area.

Marina fees have increased markedly in the last 3 years. Where once I would have been charged £25 for my 11m boat now I'm being asked to pay £35. COVID seems to have had an influence

I expect one of the biggest factors for the increase in marina fess is the shortage of marinas in the UK in general. An increase in boat ownership following the pandemic has only driven this demand higher.

Hi Sam, Great videos. Really inspiring. I have watched them with great interest as I am hoping to sail around Britain in a small boat (22 - 24 foot) to raise awareness and money for charity. If you have any advice regarding route/ boat/kit, or tips on what NOT to do I would be very grateful. Keep it up.

Every circumnavigation is likely to be slightly different, if you're trying to do this within a timeframe, the route needs to be based on upcoming and forecast weather. Plan a route but keep it dynamic as weather can stump your progress especially in a smaller boat. If you can find space, take a folding pushbike and inflatable dinghy. All the best 😎

Is it possible to circumnavigate the UK by day hopping alone (bearing in mind summer days are longer)? In other words, is the spacing between anchorages & harbors no more than (say) 40 NM apart? Or are overnight passages inevitable? I ask as, of course, sleep management is paramount and I assume that in these crowded waters, sleeping during overnight passages is not viable?

Yes this would be possible, plenty of places to visit with prior planning. I think a few YT channels have done this already

Great videos Sam, definitely on my bucket list one day ! What do you do about insurance? My company allows up to 18hrs solo sailing which wouldn’t work for any longer passages … Jonathan. @sa_wavedancer

My insurance covers third party for marinas, bashing into expensive things etc.

I did wonder if 3rd party would be the way to go for longer passages, will have a word with them. Cheers ⛵️
