Here I talk about ten albums that I would rate 5-Stars. Each has a different sound. I tried to choose albums that aren't discussed in the vinyl community that much.

You really had me going on the Donny Osmond thing. For very brief instants thoughts came into my mind like "Maybe Donnie Osmond had a great guitarist or something". "Maybe John Lennon helped him on a few songs." "Robert is really open minded, and not ashamed" "I'm not snickering, I did play Mantovani's Christmas album once and really liked it." "Maybe they tried really hard on that album after the Crazy Horses lp disaster." My mind got all those thoughts in before you threw it. I think there should be more videos like this. Sort of obscure albums that were really good, but not so obscure that it's impossible to find them. Most of my 5 star albums would be Best Of Comps or not that obscure. Here are some of mine. Silk Degrees...Boz Scaggs Blood Sweat & Tears...ST Parachute...The Pretty Things (rock) Crosscurrent/Downwind....Gong (rock kinda). Mick Taylor, Oldfield, Winwood. Jungle Fever....Neil Larsen Ain't Been Rocked Enough...Delbert McClinton. Bonnie Raitt on it too. Red...King Crimson Mysterious Traveller...Weather Report Bright Size Life...Pat Metheny I Don't Care.....ST You mentioned Blondie did a lullabye. I was lulled to sleep each night as an infant by a tape recording of the Brahms Lullabye. My mother heard infants grow up smarter when they get played classical music a lot in infancy. One day my uncle came in and suddenly started screaming at my mom. "It's Mozart you're supposed to play; that's Brahms !" He always hoped I would grow up real smart to help him with his sports betting picks.

You have to imagine Chrysalis was beyond excited when Blondie handed in Eat To The Beat. My favorite track is one you didn't mention Accidents Never Happen .. It's definitely all killer , no filler. Remember buying Tomorrow in the 70's because as a Yes fan I was intrigued by Steve Howe being in the band. Pretty sure Geoff Emerick Produced it. I had a Sony Beta player but never a video disc one. ✌️

That Dandy Warhols song you've mentioned about heroin being so passe. Not If You're The Last Junkie On Earth is the song. I heard that song at a store called Disc Replay. I don't know if you that store in your area. I've never heard of that song until the day I've heard it at Disc Replay. I took out my phone and went to my Soundhound app to get the song and the band name. It really had a late 60's vibe to it. You got me at that Donny Osmond record. Some pretty nice and interesting albums in this list. Thanks Robert. Yes the Viagra Boys LP is really getting scarce... Since they're from Sweden, I was kinda hoping I would have more luck in France (since it's on the same continent) where I am at the moment (not for very long now) but no luck. Checked online, a bunch of records stores, no one has it. And let's not talk about their previous albums... Which is sad because Welfare Jazz and Street Worms are great too. Both are definitely worth a listen (I even think I might prefer Welfare Jazz a little more) Now, I'm going to dig deeper on Dr John and that Brainticket album... Thanks again.

It's nice to see more underrated albums and musicians getting attention. The online record community and most website when it comes to best albums always chooses the same stuff, which is almost always the most famous classic rock bands with like a little 80s pop sprinkled in. There's so much super good underrated music that does not get the attention that it deserves.

I own half of these records. Based on yr say so, I'll seek the others. Love your channel. BTW, toward the end you had the stolen lighter story... reminded me of Lowell George of Little Feat. Was told that he'd bum a light from individuals, purposefully engage them in conversation as to confiscate their lighters. When he got home, he'd label the lighter with the date and from whom he took it. Said to have boxes and boxes of em. Haha. Keep on keeping on, man. Also, "Dixie Chicken" and "Sailin' Shoes", both Five Stars. Would like to know what you think of Graham Parker and the Rumour, one of my favorite bands. They don't get the love they deserve. Nice! Diverse as per usual , Robert.I grew up in Wilmington Delaware and worked in a record store in high school when that Thorogood record was release. A friend of mine is pictured dancing on the cover. He would play these little bars and pack them and often end up playing in the parking lot. That record put Rounder records on the map and Delawareans were so proud. He had a semi pro baseball team The Delaware Destroyers then as well. Tom Verlaine and Billy Ficca from the great Television also from Delaware and a big deal then too. Sorry to ramble. I agree the the 2nd Dolls record too. Never got the lasting love the debut did. I think Kathleen Edwards has more 5 star records then most esp. Asking For Flowers, and Voyageur , both perfect imo.

@@treff9226 yes.. I like a lot of different music but Kathleen Edwards is one of the microscopic few imo that makes perfect records. Ear Candy yes and lyrically always introspective and she puts her heart on the line every time. When I listen to her records I feel like every one of them must have taken a toll, draining emotionally by the time they were completed. Voyageur certainly did. Her latest carry’s some baggage but is hopeful as well. I can’t wait for the next one. I don’t think that saying this is too blasphemous but I think she is in Springsteen territory though she would likely laugh and mock herself at this statement.

She is tapping into deep seated feelings and truths that we all can relate to, and doing it with loads of humility and grace. glad to hear you appreciated Aretha Franklin so I'd like to recommend some lesser known album tracks from her 1. "Good To Me As I Am To You". To me, it's her bluesiest song, helped by Eric Clapton on guitar 2. "Sweet Bitter Love" from "Who's Zooming Who". Gospel wailing that seems impossible 3. "More Than Just A Joy" Her screams raise my blood pressure. 4. "Standing On The Rock Of Love' from the 'Bebe's Kids" soundtrack. Aretha in contemporary settings but still awesome.

the Blondie album was the only i bought from them , have some older singles but this is very nice, the jane´s adiction album which is considered the 1st allthough they had already released a live compilation with some covers , by the time that "ritual de lo habitual" was released the band was already spliting ,the production of this album "nothing´s shocking " was produced with a sound that the band didn´t like ,but imposed by the label ,one can see that when "kettle whistle "was released where the songs sounds as they should. about Dandy warhols that was the first Lp i heard from them which had great songs but as an Lp was not for my taste what surprised me were the albums they released next wich i´ve been following them on the internet band oficial site, i remenber once they having all songs from their albums to download for free with maximum quality in MP3, also saw them live twice and in one of them i could see several of the guys who appear on the video "bohemian like you" on the side of the stage and the concert was good but nothing related with what was released in their albums, let me say that at least in Europe they become a big band due to the song i refered being in the Vodafone comercial, before wasn´t a known band

It came out in the early 90's and was never released on vinyl. However if you want a kick ass Koko Taylor album you should really look into getting the CD. I saw it on ebay for as low as $4.77. Almost With You always sends a little tingle through me. Belle and Sebastian: Tigermilk. I could be Dreaming, The State I'm In. Beth Orton: Central Reservation. I have all of Beth Orton's early albums and they're all good. Stolen Car, Couldn't Cause Me Harm, terrific album. The Black Angels: Phosphene Dream. Entrance Song and Bad Vibrations makes me think of The Doors and Jimmy post LA Woman. Caterwaul: Portent Hue. A great album, songs Alex' Aphrodisiac and Good For You. Clan of Xymox: Creatures. Great album, Taste of Medicine and Crusified a couple of my favs. The Civil Wars: Barton Hollow. For two people who hate each other, they recorded a beautiful album. Curve: Come Clean. Something Familiar and Alligators Getting Up are terrific. Dream Syndicate: Days of Wine and Roses. Halloween and Days of Wine and Roses. Saw these guys in bar in Phoenix in the mid 80's. Icehouse: Icehouse. We Can Get Together and Icehouse Levitation: Need For Not. The songs Resist, Smile, Embedded, the entire album is great and so unappreciated. Mother's Finest: Iron Age. Killer album that couldn't find a home on the radio. Movin On, Evolution, Time, fantastic album. Paper Cuts: Life Among Savages. Still Knocking at the Door, Family Portrait, Afterlife Blues, fantastic record! The Real People: The Real People. Window Pane, For You, Open Up Your Mind, In Your Hands, fantastic album. Without The Real People there would be no Oasis. REO Speedwagon: REO Speedwagon. The debut album with Terry Lutrell is my favorite. Great album and you never hear these fantastic songs. 157 Riverside Avenue, Sophisticated Lady, etc. Sneaker Pimps: Becoming X, the debut with Kelli Alli. Great album, Low Place Like Home, 6 Underground, Tesko Suicide, How Do. Son Volt: Trace. I love their debut album. Windfall, Tear Stained Eye, Looking at the World Through a Windshield. Good stuff. War On Drugs: Lost in the Dream. Under Pressure, An Ocean in Between the Waves, Eyes to the Wind. some great songs on this record. Woods: Bend Beyond. Impossible Sky, It Ain't Easy, Bend Beyond, Is it Honest, it's a really good album. Darkside: All That Noise. Guitar Voodoo, Don't Stop the Rain, Spend Some Time, Love in a Burning Universe. Great album from ex-Spacemen3 members.

I've only heard a few of these. I need to check several of the others out. Son Volt is from around here, so I've heard that one several times. Great band as well as their earlier Uncle Tupelo.

@@RobertFithen Please check out my selections. I think these are good to exceptionally good albums. The songs I mentioned might be a good starting place to see if they are your style. But, if you like the songs I listed you'll probably like the entire album(s).

Very strange list indeed! The only artist you showed that I have any albums is blondie as I have Parallel Lines and Best of Blondie. Also I do have George Thorogood Greatest Hits on CD although I don't think I've played it in 25 years.

Does that end with 'Thank You Boys'? Not having 'Pigs in Zen' detracted from the vinyl version, it was available on every other version, and leaves the LP with a big blank space on side two.

Yes, it ends with "Thank You Boys". Back from the days of the "cd bonus track".

What’s your opinion on My Bloody Valentine’s Loveless? I find it very psychedelic. It’s not an easy listen for most listeners but that’s not a bad thing imo.
@treff9226
@treff9226 Жыл бұрын
As daring as music production gets, Loveless simply demands repeated listening, every time I play it, I connect more to it, the sonics make themselves more apparent with each listen - it's genius and a guitar nerds wet dream! Love Slodive, Chapterhouse, Curve, Ride and Cocteau Twins as well! All hail Kevin Shields!

@@treff9226 Have you heard of Boards of Canada? If so, what do you think about their music?

@@ZAPPED916 I was starting to investigate electronic music awhile back, I'm talking about the melodic stuff, and was looking for something beautiful and well put together, music with some craft. The Orb, Orbital, Tangerine Dream, and Boards Of Canada were heavily mentioned. I did purchase a Boards Of Canada disc, but haven't listened to it yet, as I have hundreds and hundreds of CDs not yet played. I will dig it out and get back to you, I know they are a special band and loved the various samples I heard! Cheers.

I’am trying to get the English band Family some attention, have you ever listened to any album of theirs? They were never big in the USA/Canada but in U.K./Europe they were in the late 60/70’s and were certainly one of the top live bands around that time!

I'd agree with you regarding Nothing's Shocking, were it not for "Ted, Just Admit It..." I love Jane's Addiction, but the truth is that they've never released a flawless record. They've come close, but never quite acheived the feat.
