Most, typically mention the number 9 sounding similar to dragon (in Mandarin). I was using the Pimsleur method (which is audio only) so it makes reading the characters have a need to be broken down by the sound of a stroke and location more necessary. - The need is that learning those basics could allow for the creation of new words/thoughts/expressions (or stumbling upon existing ones that were not yet learned) something that can be done easier/faster.

Hey, Zoe. One hundred percent agree on the beauty and complexity of the Mandarin Chinese language. My girlfriend’s name means something like “heavy snowfall” because she was born in the dead of winter. I thought that was such a wonderful naming practice because where my family comes from-Mexico-we’re lucky if we’re named after saints, lol. Our names, like many Western names, don’t have an inherent meaning to them like Chinese names do. Also, I agree about Chinese grammar-it’s simpler than English and much simpler than Spanish where one has to conjugate literally every verb if you want to say something, haha. Love the channel and content. Keep up the great work, chica!

You may know that latin caracters came from semitic cradle, and each caracter represents a word, like the graphem R is still the head profile, and express Order, command, so the word Resh hebrew or Ras arabic. The M is still represents Water, the M used in grammar and morphology to indicate a place or a moment. Investigating in languages origin, I notice some link between semitic with sino-tibetan language. The indo-european languages have their cradle in semitic one, and some of sino-tibetan in north europe.

Nice example you offered : Dao (tao) the phone D in semitic language indicates direction, like Din, or Huda, and in aramaic, it indicates an owner, genitive case. Then in latin too. The meaning of D is mainly about extension, so the latin root Additio (addition) from semitic عدّ or مدد simply, in hebrew and arabic.

Can you explain why China use the characthers 非洲 for Africa since you wants to chose some nice words for everything else?
@zoe.languages

The usage of “非” in this context doesn’t carry its standalone meaning of “not” or “non-”, but rather is part of a phonetic transliteration from” fi “ part . “非 also has the meaning of “ extraordinary “ and “ very “ like 非常

非洲 is the abbreviation for 阿非利加洲 which is a phonetic transliteration and 非 here is for the syllable “fi” in the word Africa. 飞 is rarely used in country names, because it means unstable in some contexts. Although basically 非 means not or non-, it is not derogatory per se, and to a native Chinese speaker, it is even philosophical. Like 庄子Zhuang Zi's famous saying, "子非鱼,安知鱼之乐" which means "You are not a fish, how can you know the happiness of fish?".

Current Chinese is not Han language (漢語) but Mandarin (滿語). Han language is ancient Chinese language way back to nearly two thousand years.

The Chinese language currently has a prominent international status thanks to China's rapid growth and economic and cultural influence, making it an important language in many fields. do both Chinese characters (Hanzi) and Kanji share common origins and visual forms?
@alicemargaret8092
@alicemargaret8092 2 ай бұрын
Kanji (the Japanese one) is derived from Hanzi, people there crossed the see to China to transplant it into their own language based on the local oral speech, and Japanese people created their own some new characters by time. That’s why there are two ways to read for kanji, one sounds similar to the original Chinese, and one is the oral speech people use first to represent the same meaning. However, the Kanji would be quite different from the one you see in China. That’s because Chinese government simplified it to eliminate the illiteracy when the country was really poor(and it worked well), and now you can find traditional Chinese mainly in the area of Hong Kong, Taiwan and Macau, simplified in Chinese mainland, Singapore, Malaysia, etc. Btw, people who speak Chinese can read both version easily. I hope this helps😊( I am native Chinese and learning Japanese
