The audiences from all around the world have appreciated anime from as early as 1917. But with time, the quality and content improved drastically. By the 80s, the world of anime was at its peak with a great variety of genres picking up steam. Often termed as the Golden Era of anime, this time period saw the best of anime being served to the fans.
There are multiple reasons for the astounding boost in anime quality in the 80s. For instance, the introduction of new genres like sports anime worked wonders for the industry. CGI started to gain popularity and the formation of the iconic Studio Ghilbi also ensured a sudden hike in animation quality. The 80s were also the times when Hentai started being made because they could now escape the glare of the censors since people were renting and watching anime in their houses. All these factors and many more brought about some of the best anime shows ever in this era. Who can forget the likes of Dragon Ball that literally defined our childhood! This video is a tribute to this Golden era as we explore some of the hidden anime gems from the 80s.

City hunter was a big thing in France going by the tittle Nicky Larson, and apparently run in the children's TV slightly censured. There is a comedy done by Philip Lacheau, his buddies and girlfriend based on City Hunter. It was his passion project he even went to meet the manga creator and got his blessing. It was hart warming after butchery done to Death note and GITS around the same time.

One reason why the 80s were such a great time for Anime was the variety & imagination that went into each one. Even within different genres, there was still enough imagination used that one series could seldom be mistaken for another. Now however, everything is exactly the _same._ Every...single...series...is set in high school, for example. Every...single...one! _Boring!_ (Man, I couldn't even stand high school when I was going there; why everyone wants to see it in their entertainment today is beyond me.) Even those series that featured teenaged characters (such as _Urusei Yatsura_ or _Ranma 1/2)_ very little of the shows actually took place _in_ the school or classrooms; some of it did, but most happened outside, in other environs, when is what made them interesting (and fun!) Not only was there more variety & imagination in the 80s, but they were just plain more entertaining & usually fun. Even when the comedic series would occasionally turn serious or take a dark tone, they were still engaging enough that you were seldom if ever bored. Lastly, 80s Anime _moved._ They didn't just sit there with 2 characters endlessly talking, walking & talking...walking & talking...accomplishing little except eating up screen-time. Stuff _happened._ They _showed_ rather than _told,_ in other words. So I don't know if they just forgot to make good Anime or if they think people want to see that these days or what. I don't know what it is, but I'd gladly take 1980s & 90s Anime' over 99% of the stuff made to-day.

ya mean Nausica and the Valley of the Wind, right? Truly, a masterpiece that continues the great Miyazaki tradition of strong, kind, and admirable heroines in unforgettable adventures

@@cowabungadoug Well, not quite. That's what it was called when it was released in a cut down version in America, that's how I first knew it as a kid.

@@JnEricsonx Yeah, I know how the movie was called back in its initial release here in the USA. Just being a little sarcastic about it ;-) BTW: Which version do you prefer? The modified version of your youth or the full cut version?

@@cowabungadoug Well, I haven't watched the cut version since I was little, and only saw the full version on a small TV 20 years ago. I was going to a theatrical showing last year, but the damn thing sold out. I think it's HBO Max, so at some point I gotta sit down and watch.

@@JnEricsonx Well, I had to ask because those childhood first impressions form powerful memories that override our critical judgement and Think whichever version touched you the most is one you should hold most dear. I personally would also love to add "Curse of the Undead: Yoma" to this list (aka Blood Reign). It's a Horror Ninja Film vs Zombies and Monsters

Apparently I am old and have seen entirely too much anime. :P The only one of these I haven't seen is "Angel's Egg". Never even heard of that one before now. Wonder if I can dig it up from somewhere.
