To me the thing is still the scariest monster out there since it can be anyone and possibly anything. And there's no way to know till its right next to you. And you can't really fight it unless you just nuke the site from orbit. Still a great film to this day.

@@christiniakollar8397 The Thing was underrated when it arrived in cinemas, just after ET and on the same day (I think) as Blade Runner. People wanted to see cute cuddly aliens back then, not ones that would rip your face off and wear it like a mask :-)

@@Garviel.Loken.Knight.Errant. totally agree I say the Thing too yes I give John Carpenter his respect for remaking the Thing & that's still 1 of My all time favorites but I will also would give the original Thing the most credit because that was also scary in it's time it may not be Everybody's favor. But I will give the original Thing it's honor & respect too far as the recent reboot of the Thing what recent reboot? I seen it it was nowhere as good as the John Carpenter's nor the original 1951 version Thing that starred James Arness yes Matt Dillon himself from Gunsmoke!

Man, I really wish they would redo The Relic.. The creature was so good, but they could easily make it even closer to the book and thus much scarier. The descriptions in the book make it so nightmarish the movie beast seems tame by comparison. I loved Mimic! It was such an imaginative storyline, and the creatures were terrific.

Thanks for showing Rawhead Rex some love! So many KZfaqrs just tear it down and make fun of it. But that movie has some atmosphere! And once the monster starts running amok, he goes full tilt! And, honestly, between the sound effects and his metalhead/gorilla/demonic look, he's kind of terrifying! I'm betting the people laughing at him wouldn't think he's so funny if they ran into him in a dark alley.

Would the Vampires from the first From Dusk Till Dawn count? The Vampiric designs were like nothing else at the time except for one in particular with a mouth on its stomach which could've been "The Thing" inspired, but for the most part, the designs themselves are both intricate and grotesque.

Nice list, although virtually anyone of Irina1296's suggestions below could've been added to it (I trust the only reason "Deep rising" isn't on it, is because it's thankfully not forgotten!). One question mark though. "The faculty" forgotten? I would've referred to that one as a gargantuan classic!

Great list that's just missing 'Deep Rising', a movie that fits right in with the rest.

The fact that you put Split Second first gets you many points in my book. How many movies have Roy Batty and Mimir teamed up?

Relic was great. Split Second was great. Congos gray gorrilas where scary af. The hyena swine from Isle of Dr. Moreau was menacing. Mimic made my skin crawl, giant stickbug/roach eew. The 80s was all about body horror, but the 90s brought the monsters to the forefront!

The faculty was wildly popular for quite awhile, I miss movies like that- and it had a great cast of actors which is not a normal thing for sci fi horror flicks

Split Second is one of those quirky kinda of movies that throws a bunch of concepts (the occult, sci fi, environmentalism) in a salad bowl, mixes them up, and comes out with an entertaining product. The characters really make this movie overall. The Cave is another surprisingly good movie, given its B Movie status.
