Passive Income can be hard and I promise you it is not realistic to make money online overnight. There is no such thing as getting rich quick. Making Passive Income From Your Homestead is about finding what you are passionate about and then leveraging systems to help you take those passions to provide that on going residual income so that you can spend more time on your homestead and less time off your homestead.
The key for this is to find many ways to make passive income, the more methods you use the better chance you'll have at being successful.
10 Ways to Make Passive Income From Your Homestead:
1. Monetizing a KZfaq channel with Google Adsense. You could also do this with a Blog. With this you can leverage your KZfaq reach and function stack everything else.
2. Stock Footage. The next way to make passive income from online or from your homestead is by selling stock footage. This could be how to sell stock photos or stock video of chickens, pigs, goats, drone shots of your hobby farm or homestead. People are looking for this footage and they can get it from you. This could be from iStock or VideoHive or VideoBlocks, etc.
3. The way that we make passive income is from our doTERRA essential oils business. We first fell in love with essential oils and then we realized that we were giving them away to everyone and we thought we might as well make some extra money. It turned into myself being about to quit my job and semi retire early. Not really but being a time free dad feels like retirement! The same thing is possible with any network marketing or mlm company. Just pick one that you have a supportive leader and team.
4. Tree and Plant Propagation
5. Write and Sell and eBook
6. Other ways to make passive income especially if you have a KZfaq channel is to take your video skill and make an online course about a subject you are an expert in. Digital projects like online courses are the best way to make residual income because people can purchase from you while you sleep. Check out sites like Udemy or Skillshare.
7. Affiliate marketing is most likely going to be the most popular amongst homesteaders. It is just too easy and no stress to review products that you are passionate about. To see how we do it and support us, go to BetterAMZ.com then click on the main banner and continue your shopping from Amazon. It take one extra click and doesn't cost you a penny!
8. Make a Documentary of a season of your homestead
9. Real Estate Investing. Another way to make passive income is to rent out a portion of your land to something that is low maintenance.
10. Patreon is an amazing way to have some extra passive income stream.

Bo: As one who has built and now lives on passive income, I can assure you that your video is honest and should be helpful for all who view it. What viewers should understand is that passive does not mean forever work-free. I started in 2001, and still have clients with me that signed on with me that first year (it's now 2019). But the accounts require at least semi-annual servicing, if for no other reason than to say "Hi, Customer! You are still important to me, I haven't forgotten you, I'm here if you need me, and I appreciate your business." I no longer seek new accounts, but maintenance of the existing ones does require a little work now and then. The bottom line is that passive income beats the heck out of a 9 to 5 job, any day of the week and twice on Sunday!

I highly recommend growing luffa. It’s easy to grow, you’ll never need to buy another sponge, and you can sell them for $10 or $15 each. I started making luffa soap for gifts and I immediately started getting orders.

Thank you Lois for bringing up your rental times...and as well for your petting farm!!!! I never thought about that. I thought about packing up animals to go to parties, but I never thought about just allowing it open to visitors and schools. So cool!!!

I've already advertised our petting farm, Homestead and survival classes to begin this coming spring and received a great response on Facebook. Families are already RSVPing. I'm a single parent and we went through a major hurricane last year that I'm still recovering from and rebuilding. My rental unit was damaged so I must build another one so it is on my list of things to do. I had to build several chicken coops and a goat shelter this year so the rental kept getting pushed back but I need it ASAP for the passive income. I think the rentals will be the bulk of our income as I've done Airbnb for the past 17 years and it is very profitable and rewarding when done correctly.

We're already almost 2 years homesteading. We have about an acre, 10 chickens down from 12, 2 goats, mini gardens, building fences, built a goat shelter and chicken coop, etc. I was updating friends of our adventures and watching hours and hours of KZfaq videos and then finally I told myself, I know just as much if not more than most so I need to be posting my own videos so here I am. It's just me and my 12 year old son.

How about.. Selling vegtables.. Eggs.. Cut up logs into slices for wedding decor or coasters. Renting out extra land for hunting, farming, hay-harvesting... Make goat cheese. Weddings in your barn/field... Firewood processing. AirBnB with a Yurt in the back yard... Free rocks (okay, that doesn't make money).. Free rocks, and pay for pet ones. How to make money off your homestead without video editing! Just a start.

I thought about tiny house camp ground also tiny houses we rent out on airbnb. I like the idea of fishing. I thought of paintball as well. My husband shot it down. He said it's be too expensive. I figured it wouldn't be very sustainable plus we grow organic & I'm not sure I'd want those chemicals in my property. You could also do a putt putt ⛳ course.

I talked a bit about this on FB, but instead of selling your suburban home when you move to your homestead, rent it out, either to individual roommates or to one family. This can generate quite the passive income as long as you are able to do the maintenance and repairs yourself. It helps to have a store card to a big box store that sells materials and appliances, and to keep receipts of those transactions for your taxes. Because the property is in a college town, vacancies are filled within a week, and the roommates keep each other honest on cleaning and replenishing the basic necessities.
@BetterTogetherLife

Yea unfortunately our suburban home REPELS college kids!!! Hahaha. It is the heart of creepy "1950s movie like suburbs". But you've certainly gotten me thinking more Heather. We still REALLY want to be mortgage free. But it is something that we need to consider. Because YES!!! It would be an additional income stream for sure. Tell me...what experience do you have with rental properties? You seem knowledgeable and we would love to learn from you!! :)

Some good ideas. Raising and selling livestock would be good one. Main thing is getting out of the mind-set one big income from one thing you have to diversify into many smaller things. And in a lifestyle change like in your channel or mine there ways when moving to a homestead to reduce the income you think you need big example is the garden it saves you income that you dont need to replace when starting your homestead. God Bless

Great upbeat, inspirational video, Beau. One thing that needs to be mentioned is that most of these ideas do not require jumping in with both feet immediately. I believe the reason many fail at establishing these passive income streams is that they commit completely to one idea and stop EVERYTHING to try and make it happen. While that passion is a good thing you have to be smart about implementation as well. I have a strong interest in creating KZfaq content but have yet to make my first video. I have very little actual experience in photography and no video production experience, but would love to learn. One local (Pearland) KZfaq personality, Grav3yardgirl,, has been producing content for years and has become one of the biggest earners by simply blogging, doing product reviews and un-boxings, sharing make-up tips and generally being silly. My kids LOVE her. As always you r content is useful and entertaining. Keep doing what you are doing because we are watching, we are learning and we are loving what you do.

These are all great ideas. I believe people get frustrated the most from thinking that passive means from the start you just set it up and it will run itself. The amount of aggressive work you put into it out the gate, negates how passive you can be when the train is rolling. Networking is super important. It's easier for you to reach a broader audience if you make like minded friends and get those shoutouts and mentions!

+Hope'sHomestead I know right?!!! I went into a lot more detail in my 1st draft...which was 30mins long!!!!! Haha. Yes I am always long winded. But I spoke about how passive income is NOT a get rich quick scheme. In fact nobody that is 20 years old or older should EVER think that you can "get rich quick." Just doesn't happen. There is sooo many more details on how to implement these ideas like SEO, Instagram hashtags, KZfaq tags, keyword research...of course what you spoke about being networking!! I love this community!!! Great list Beau! The really neat thing with a lot of these is when you start thinking about it from a permaculture perspective of function stacking. An example, you could do some of those Air B&B tiny houses, write an ebook about how you did it, include it in your youtube channel, etc. All are basically a single activity (doing the work once), but expands into 3 different revenue streams, 2 of which will continue to pay you in the future even if you stop renting them out. A really great video. I hadn't even thought about doing stock video/photography, which in some cases could even be cut right out of footage you're already taking for the vlog. Mind....blown.

+Eric Rosendaul hahaha!!! Eric you and I are ALWAYS on the same exact page... I actually had to cut out the "permaculture function stacking principles for business" portion of the video. I can't wait to be subscribed to your channel someday!!! ;)
@erosendaul
@erosendaul 7 жыл бұрын
I'd watch all 30 minutes if you post it! :-) I think it's valuable information, even if you don't specifically approach it from a permaculture angle. As another commentor said, people need to get away from the thinking of one large income source and starting thinking of how they create a dozen little income streams. It's way more resilient and flexible, but "the man" isn't a fan of that kind of thinking. It might not be a vlog, but we'll definitely have some kind of youtube channel shortly. Just need to have a sit down with my wife to discuss everything and make sure she's on board. What are your thoughts on branding a channel like you did vs. Justin Rhodes' branding under his name?
@BetterTogetherLife
@BetterTogetherLife 7 жыл бұрын
+Eric Rosendaul Well, to my knowledge Justin kind of just did it with the username that he had then it blew up! At that time he asked us old time commenters if they should change it to Abundant Permaculture or something like that. For whatever reason he ended up sticking with it. But us...the reason we came up with a name is because of our oils business and website. And honestly... I thought that Kelly would be the one mostly on camera and me filming and editing. It got too hard and I just ended up going at it. Oh yea, Beau Brotherton didn't seem like an easy thing to spell for someone. Hahaha Normal long winded Beau...but I would say is it mostly going to be you or is your wife going to be a big part? How many different avenues are you going to take...KZfaq, blog, podcast, etc. I would say the more your "brand" is YOU, then just go with your name. But always try and get YOURNAME.com Its a good thing to own no mater what you do. Also if I had it to do over again...I would have paid someone in the beginning to design a logo for us. Still plan on doing that...just haven't gotten around to it.
@erosendaul
@erosendaul 7 жыл бұрын
Thanks a lot for the feedback. If you ask me, we're going to do all the things, but that's where my wife is good at reigning me in a little and making me think before acting and not over-committing and under-delivering. That said, most of our content would likely be centered around stuff we're doing on our homestead. I've tried blogging a few times in the past, but writing doesn't come easy for me, and I never really enjoyed it that much. KZfaq seems like a much better avenue for what I believe are my strengths. Also, I've done some very low level video editing on crappy software like Movie Maker and kinda liked it. I've never considered myself much of a creative person, but I think I could really get into video editing. If I do end up enjoying it and get fairly competent, I think our local business's could really use some good video creation/editing so I thought about having a homestead specific channel and website for our stuff and using this user name as a catch all for other projects that I do. Good tip on the YOURNAME.com site. I think it's time to roll up the sleeves, stop talking and get after it. Thanks again for your feedback!

I think Justin's permaculture chicken video is great but his greater draw is his family and farm. It is like the old fashion tv shows from the 1950's. No big drama just kind people with good manners and great love. It is so feel good to watch that it has just exploded. There is also real talent there too in the filming and editing.

I officially have been homesteading for the past year and unofficially homesteading for the past 2 years. We have chickens, goats, a cat and a dog plus several gardens, fruit trees, a compost pile, a greenhouse, a rental camper, shelters and lots of survival gear including solar panels, solar lights, etc. I've already implemented many of the options you mentioned including the Airbnb and KZfaq channel. I'm selling eggs, and manure and this spring will start holding classes. I'm currently researching doing an online book and a possible short timeline of our homesteading journey. It's one thing to talk about it in theory and another thing to live the life. Homesteading is very time consuming as it's your life so you must be committed to it. I enjoy living this lifestyle and working at my own pace and also being able to be creative but it is very time-consuming and Hands-On especially if you have animals and smaller children. I think a lot of people want to Homestead now as a fad but most will tire out quickly once they realize how much work is actually involved. Waking up early to tend to the animals then planting and harvesting in gardens everyday housework, yardwork, paying bills, running errands, taking care of kids etc will give you very long days and a sore body but you don't have to work for The Man. The passive income will help you afford to hire out or purchase the large equipment to help save time and labor hours so that you can begin to enjoy your time at home when possible.

Sorry this comment is so late in coming but I just "discovered" your channel today. So many of your ideas are in complete sync with my own. I have been "threatening" to write a book on Baby Boomer Retirement Planning. And the subject matter for that book is everything you outlined, including TREES. But some of the comments are right on: if you have to work at it, it is NOT passive income (but it is still income). We found a network marketing opportunity that doesn't require selling anything. That works for us. But you are right about having a good team. Thank you for posting this. BTW, this is my first youtube comment ever.

Much like your trees idea, buy trade and sell young pets and/or animals raise them up breed them for sale. Mini Jersey cows are in demand, chickens = eggs, chics, and chicken! Plants and flowers, herbs and veggies = seeds, seedlings, produce (what doesn't sell will be more for seeds, or extra food, or bigger plants worth more). Get in on Farmers Markets. Sell stuff you fix up or make on Craigslist. Grow an acre of artichokes (they sell for up to 5 bucks each). Or chose another specialty item like Shitake Mushrooms, Vanilla beans, Hemp is going to be in demand for replicators. Or take on one major money making plan per season!. Try different things and explore new ideas, you just might find something you love doing that also allows you to live your dream! Peace.

+DragonflyArtz1 you are totally correct....however, those ideas are not passive income. That is "Additional Income". Passive income is just another new way to say residual income. So let's say you own stock in a company and they pay out a dividend. Or you own a rental property. So this list was ideas on how you could make Passive Income from the homestead. I LOVE LOVE LOVE that a homestead gives you sooooooo many ways to make additional income too!

I sell digital blue print for Kentucky stick chair on etsy at sloyd store. The income is every seasonal but I average $20 month. Just below average of etsy of $35 month for most store on etsy. I put upfront time and have do little now. Once and while I get a question that takes few minutes to write detailed answer to. Well worth the efforts because I going to make chair any ways why not earn a little bit of income from it.

MrPotato2 , I needed a place to live so I bought a small place from FanniMae. My brother opted for an apartment. I pay a little less than $500.00 per month for 6.5 acres. My brother pays $1600.00 for his apartment. And he is allowed one parking space. Me? I park anywhere that strikes my fancy. Of course I also have to clear my own snow and mow my own grass. My brother only has to wait for someone to do it for him. He does not live far from a supermarket and I pick blueberries that are growing in pots on my front deck.

Not exactly. Most passive income requires upfront work or money. Truly passive income is from money invested in paper assets. But how did you get that money? Labor most likely. The passive element is nice. If you quit your job, your income stops, but even if you are doing KZfaq, your money will still come in next month even if you cannot work that month.
@Justaguyyoutubin
@Justaguyyoutubin 6 жыл бұрын
This is completely untrue. This is the dream that gets sold to people about passive income. True passive income takes an investment of time and/or money and requires upkeep. Regardless of your passive revenue stream, you will be constantly obligated to modernize and update your product or service so that it stays relevant. Even long term financial investments take a bit of management and a regular check-in. Passive income ≠ effortless income. Passive income should be viewed as a revenue stream that earns you income consistently while you are able to focus your energy elsewhere. This doesnt mean that your passive income wont occasionally require a bit of love. Example: A piece of rental property could be considered passive income. In my case I rent out a plot of my land for 25 RV owners to store their motor homes on throughout the year. This requires VERY little effort. They park their RV's. They pay me monthly. This still requires that I am regularly doing checks on the stability of their trailers, am monitoring weather updates so that im aware of potential storms and can tie down their trailers properly if needed. If there is a big hail storm I will run hail mats overtop of the trailers as an additional service. My lot requires upkeep and cleaning as well as repaving or touchups every few years. The lot requires me to repaint the parking lines every few years to keep the lot updated. I have to collect from owners who occasionally "forget" to pay. I do a perimeter check of the property to ensure the fence hasnt been breached and that all trailers are locked and not vandalized. Etc, etc, etc... This business would be considered passive and only requires a few hours of my time per month and allows me to pursue various other business endeavors, but it still requires attention. "passive income is no work at all. if you need to maintain etc... its not passive..." This is completely false. This is a lazy mindset and is factually incorrect. This is the mindset that sells books. Lazy, incompetent and uncreative people desire an easy way out and are sold on a product or book that offers them FREE MONEY. There is no such thing. Get a work ethic. Go make some fuckin money.

@Justaguyyoutubin As one who has built and now lives on passive income, I can assure you that your description is the most accurate one presented here.

I’m new to this channel and I do not have any issues with anyone wanting to get paid a fair wage for something that they produce... I used to be involved in Drop Shipping sales but got out of it because I felt like a hypocrite doing it. Why...? Because all you are is a Middleman who purchases a product for less than you resell it for and there are so many people out there who can hardly get by now and my family is one of them. So, now instead, I show people where they can purchase items, cut out the Middleman and save some money. I believe that if someone wants to send another money to help support them then that’s their choice. What I don’t agree with are channels that withhold content from the same subscribers that they are already making money on and that helped them make their channel successful in the beginning just because the won’t pay them to become a Patreon... I also don’t like people who resort to name calling just because someone happens to make a comment that some else doesn’t agree with... In my opinion that makes the person doing the name calling very small...

Five minutes in and none of it has anything to do with homesteading. Just do it from the city, millennials.

Why go out into the country...and work online? If I wanted that, it would be better to have the 5G internet service of the cities, coming in the near future. They are going to make the internet painfully slow for you guys, in an effort to lure you back into the concrete jungle.

Well I can't necessarily argue with your point. But what other options would we have when the priority list is... 1) Continue to both work from home so that we can stay together as a family and homeschool our kiddos. 2) Grow as much of our own food as we can. 3) Our kids be able to immerse themselves in the outdoors and constantly learn from our homestead. 4) Mortgage free...very hard to do in the city with minimum square footage laws. I'd love to know what suggestions you have from your personal experience and expertise! :)

Go to the grocery stores and work online as much as you can right now, but at the same time everyone needs to be learning skills that: - Are necessary for survival. Someone will need to learn hunting and/or gathering. In the Hill Country, there are plenty of fish, fowl and year-round deer meat. Axis deer (with the spots) are not native, therefore can be hunted all year without a license. Ie: trade meats, even if you don't eat them, with someone who makes honey or cheese. - Are based on providing what is needed, not necessarily wanted, for each family member. If someone is vegan or lactose intolerant, those things should be taken into consideration. If you have a picky eater, such as someone who refuses to eat "Bambi", then have them learn how to get/cook those things on their own. If they are too young to do that, then they are too young to be picky. Focus should be on nutrition for the family as a whole. - Can be bartered on a neutral location. Never show all of your cards to anyone, not even family, but the idea is to have the least amount of strangers coming onto your property. After you mention having a homestead, you will suddenly start getting a lot of friends who just may be planning on never learning those skills and taking what they need with force from nice people who give away all of the intel online and may not be the gun-toting type.. - Is preferably something you enjoy and is natural for you, but if the cows need to be fed and the fence mended, then someone will need to be able to "cowboy-up" at the moment. - Compliment each other: it's best for members to have overlapping skills, especially when another gets sick, but each should refine a unique skill.

I was with you until you started talking about essential oils. Yeah, I don't care if it makes money, I have no respect for people who pedal garbage because they can get away with it and it makes money.

Specifically for americans people : video =10 minutes but 8 min are about nothing and last 2 are the subject, really??? So boring...
