NEVER underestimate the moral boost of dry socks and fresh underwear. A few baby wipes in a ziplock bag are worth their weight in gold after a few days stewing in your own sweat.

I am on foot patrol every week. Right now using the dickies dri tech socks.. Another good addition is the 4 inch self adhering wraps. If needed you can wrap your ankle, foot or knee in event of muscle, joint ligament or tendon issue.. also doubles as a presure dressing. Water proof.. work very well.. My underwear are reebok dri technology. Work well staying drier.. Invest in high quality underwear and socks is good advice..

You got me on the extension lol something that nobody talks about thatd make a vital video is defeating nods/thermal, drones, and dogs because if someone is "after" you theres a real good chance they will employ one or all of those tools, nobody is even thinking about that at all and you know how important that would be for either side.

A 5w unregulated laser pointer will knock out most any sensor on Earth not specifically designed for lasers. Won't instantly swat a drone out of the sky but it will fry the camera system be it normal, NV or thermal. Silenced 22lr with hollow points works wonders for dog sized Animals. Iv shot plenty of foxes and coyotes with a silenced 22.

@@PracticalTacticalSheepDog I can't verify this, but my father once told me that spicy pepper is a great deterrent for animals which use their noses. Will damage the nerves in the nose and render them unable to smell properly for a significant portion of their life. This isn't to say pepper is a must in a person's go-bag, but maybe a small bottle of Tabasco gets packed in my food. Thanks for the tip on the laser. Any recommendations?

@@simontalcott1800 I got a Chinesium laser off eBay, it's advertised as 5 Watts. Probably is more than that honestly. It will set things on fire up close and looks like a mile long lightsaber when pointed at stars at night. Comes with a keyed tail cap that requires you to put a key in to turn it on.

@@simontalcott1800 also in regards to the spicy peppers damaging nerves and causing long term damage, that's just not a thing. I work with K9 at work and they get indirect exposure to pepper spray all the time without any long term side affects. Usually the same results as when people get sprayed, coughing/sneezing and red swollen eyes. All temporary.

Great video! One thing I noticed that is missing on your helmet is a lense cover for your flashlight. If you are hiding in the woods and someone is using a spotlight to look for you your flashlight lens will give you away. It's kind of like when you shine a flashlight at night and you see animals eyes reflecting back on you. I use a Butler Creek flip open covers on my helmet light and weapon light.

I dig your channel. I am assigned to an army aviation unit in the National Guard. Being a mechanic, I have the possibility of having to work on an aircraft in the field. It’s referred to as a DART Downed Aircraft Recovery Team. Sometimes the aircraft lands safely but can’t fly safely until the aircraft is fixed. Or there’s the Black Hawk Down type situation. Being a POG I have little experience in field gear. When a DART mission happens. It’s usually a “jump-through-your-ass” type situation. Where certain key people are voluntold to scramble in a hurry for a DART mission. It’s an organizational deficiency to not plan accordingly. I made it a goal to be as best prepared I can be as an individual. So that it’s less of a shit storm. So I really value your channel for this reason. I constantly battle between carrying too much gear and not enough. I need to be able to load up in ground vehicles or in a helicopter. Whilst also being able to carry on foot but with the ability to carry additional gear like a toolbox. There’s a real possibility that I may stay overnight in a combat zone. Working in less than ideal conditions. So it’s hard to prepare for the unforeseen.

@The Mandalorian Foot Lives Matter. Trench Foot was never a thing in past history? Good boots and socks matter if you rely on your feet for transportation. Secondary to me after drinking water and filter.

@The Mandalorian :D Depends on how you look at it. If you have those small backpacks that zip on your vest then a pair of socks and a small single dose vial of eye drops is no big deal to carry I think.

An old school paint can opener (the key looking type) are also awesome for yanking a stuck case from most weapons (definitely ARs) and can be tethered to your chest rig. (Still keep a cleaning rod in my pack too.)

I always pack extra socks. Sometimes for me and sometimes for others. The thing that most people miss is a simple rag/hanky. I've legit had a hanky save a buddy and I from heat exhaustion when it was over 100 degrees out and sunscreen wasn't cutting it. Also you can wipe your hands when you need to.

Good data. I also liked to carry one of those small sew kits with a canvas needle, heavy thread and a thimble. A long enough security halt or patrol base you can really unmess some kit with minimal effort. And you get to be ‘that guy’ which is a bonus. Homemaker 7, out!

Also Moleskin fits easily in the IFAK....I wear waterproof leather steel toe boots every day but if you're traveling with others that aren't used to humping miles through the brush....it keeps you moving

Not a bad idea, but personally I keep the IFAK exclusive to life saving items, that way nothing clutters up the pouch in an emergency, and you don't lose/misplace things while digging in it for mundane items. I would reccomend a "booboo" kit. Just a pouch or small bag that you can throw in your ruck full of pain relievers, allergy meds, moleskin, ointment, ect.

Duct tape will work the same way, and is multi-use. The key is addressing the hot-spots _before_ they become blisters.

Something no one ever seems to mention is a small laser. Not weapon mounted, but the kind you can get from the dollar store on a keychain. They literally cost a dollar, and they can be used for signalling, emergency locator, and in a pinch for lighting.

It's amazing how many people carry a paint can opener for shell extraction. I've never needed one luckily, and never heard of it until the other day but apparently I'm really late to the party as it seems EVERYONE ELSE has carried one (and needed it) for years! 4 years in the desert in the 80's with Vietnam era M-16s, never had a problem, good thing it was peace time!

MOSTLY everyone (maybe a few outliers) who said they have carried one are just saying that because of the video they saw last week... I'm willing to bet 95% of them have never actually tested it before but they are now spreading it like gospel.. I recommend a green or blue light, a dim light is a great idea but red is super bright and easy to pick up on nvds where as blue and green are almost impossible to pick up (at least with green phosphorus nvds)

I agree with all of what you said. I recently encountered a stuck case at the range and forgot my cleaning kit at home. I found a video of a guy that said to carry a paint can opener for such purposes. Light weight and small for storage and reaches in to remove the case. Just sharing what I found out.

Batteries stored using the ranger method also helps with the cold weather as you get body warmth to keep them working better than dumped in the depths of a cold back pack!

Great tip on the socks! Good to have some gold bond powder to help keep your feet dry too if you are prone to sweating! They also have liquid bandaids which are great if you do get a blister.

I always keep 2 large clear garbage bags in my kit as well. They can easily be used as rain ponchos or as a makeshift shelter or bivy bag, a rapid way to raise your body temperature by wearing one as a poncho and moving around a bit, and for well... garbage.

Thank you for your service friend,& good information. I learned the hard way about the cleaning rod, stuck casing. Now I carry a cleaning rod attached to the rifle, rubber band, Velcro straps. Tip ( Lock tight blue). Best regards.

Good list, a lot of this stuff I don't see people have in their kits... On the batteries, I've made an effort to limit battery types. Battery type is a factor when I choose gear, so I don't have to carry so many varieties. I've also switched over a lot of gear to rechargeable so it can be 100% every day without the substantial cost of replacing disposable ones.

Couple things… red light on maps you won’t see contour lines. Secondly I dunno what you do for chemical/nuclear training in American forces. But in British Army basic training every soldier will (or did) have to sew a black elastic band to the front of their helmet, simply to pull down and use in lieu of a chin strap when wearing NBC suit and respirator.

I saw somewhere a guy say he carries a paint can opener in his plate carrier because it was the best thing to get those really bad locked up casings out ...... I've had one pretty bad locked up shell casing since I saw that and it worked perfectly for getting down in there and popping it free.... Great tip .....

Trust this man re socks; also doesn't hurt to put Vaseline between your toes to avoid blisters, and have your boots already broken in. Also a good, faster, lighter solution for stuck cartridges is a paint can opener tied to some cord to your vest. It has a hook and there's no need to set the weapon down, and you don't have to put your hand in front of the barrel when adrenaline may be pumping.

Someone told me that they actually tape the maps back and front with clear tape for the waterproofing of maps. I yet have to try that. Also, I know a hobo whom suggested to me to use deodorant on your feet for long distance marching to prevent blisters and hot spots.

That's why I switched to an AK47/AKM platform. Doesn't need to be oiled that often, every 3000-5000 rounds, it already comes with the cleaning rod on the bottom of the barrel. Very reliable. My buttstock has a compartment where you can fit batteries/tools and other items.

what i carry for jammed case is a paint can opener it fits perfectly into the chamber to pry out a stuck case. it’s just tied to magazine holder and tucked inside to store.

Solid sectioned rod for knocking out bore obstruction. I've seen loads of flash hiders become shrapnel from mud. The shoot off muzzle caps are great until you fire the first time. Case head seperation drive the chamber brush on the T handle in. Usally pulls the case out.

For grid-down, no resupply of convenient MREs, add a _P51 can opener_ to your kit. They're bigger than the P38, easier to hold, & you get more leverage. It weighs nothing! A little bit of Paracord, tie them to anything, & you're good! They're NOT expensive either! I know lots of guys that have cashed supplies in the wild, but didn't put a can opener with them. When I ask about it... Well, the "OH 💩!!!" look on their face 😳 is hysterical!!! 😂😂😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

being a marine vet I have all of these in my kit except for a gas mask. I made sure to have a Camelback bladder in my rig and on my war belt I have a canteen pouch. I also keep a water filtration system in my kit to refill my water if no clean sources are are around.

Great video! Most people have no idea what adverse conditions are like and sock's are going to be invaluable. And some instant coffee small sandwich bag and toilet paper never ever get enough. If you are really in it for long haul energy gum eat as you can and good to go! I know it's getting bad hopefully I can do away with the kevlar hat gas mask got from Israel and some compression bandage works great standard issue in the IDF kit have fun

I would advise against a red light. With the increased availability of NVGs shinning a red light is equivalent of shining a bright wite light. Instead use a green or blue light.

I don’t know if you already have it but for your writing utensil. Look for a skilcraft aviator pen. There are different configurations. They’re low profile. Made of brass. They typically have a black cartridge, red cartridge and .5 mm lead pencil. Very durable and easily stolen. People in the army love these things. I have come across a few that have black, blue and pencil. One with a stylus. The cap has a small eraser. They typically come in black but I have recently seen one that comes in coyote brown in the wild. They can be issued through typical supply channels. I lost the NSN but a quick Google search and you should be able to find them. They’re on Amazon quite a bit. Someone was selling them for $30 *puke*. Though I believe I found some for $10-12. Great little pens. They come with replacement cartridges but they’re so small, they’re easy to lose. The cartridges look commonplace but I don’t know if they’re proprietary or not. You may be able to find replacements at a local store but I can’t be certain.

For batteries I carry a small gum tube (I think it was a mentos gum tube) that holds about 8 2032 batteries quite well and I keep 5 18650's in my left bicep pocket in a little case (18650's are for my various lights, and the 2032's are for optics illumination on my LPVO and little micro dot) I also keep 2 little notebooks on me in different colors, one is black and has my dope charts for various rifles and ammo combinations, and the other is brown and it's for taking notes and things like you mentioned. One other thing I like to carry personally is a toolbar with all the different torx keys on it (almost all of my rifle gear uses torx screws to attach) to make sure my gear isn't loosening up in the field. I carry it in my right bicep pocket.

What I do with my maps is cover them on both sides with clear tape, the 2 inch kind. By overlapping the tape slightly, 1/4 inch to 1/2 inch it keeps it waterproof and I can still use the whole map without a problem. It takes a little bit of time to do it properly but it is well worth it, doing this helps to keep the map clean and it lasts longer.

I have done that in the past aswell, works really well. I just tend to use alot of different maps all the time and half of them aren't owned by me so I'm unable to make permanent modifications to them. So I use map cases or ziplock alot.

Funny thing you mentioned socks, when the wife and I travel outta town for a weekend trip, she always ask why I pack a 10 day supply of socks, regular Hanes type t-shirts and boxer shorts. Thank you for all you do at disseminating very value information. The map case I never thought of writing the erasable pens on the outside. I have a few more for you and others who want to read on. I received this on "Tactical Hyve" channel, using a paint can opener for hung rounds in a chamber. My rifle has MAGPUL furniture where I stow CLP in the P....grip and batteries in the C....stock(certain items make my rifle look "evil"). I don't think having batteries loose in a pocket is good- noise discipline? I'll have to test that by jumping up & down and seeing if they fly out as well. I carry two Nalgene bottles on my belt & a ice plate on my back. Have you mentioned in the past a poncho? You can use that to cover yourself at night for light discipline, even a red light has a possibility of being seen from a distance. I have those special zip-ties as well, but before you use them you need to know your state laws on when you may. Using them could mean kidnapping or at least assault & battery. Thanks again. MSR Dromedary bags are excellent for carrying water. 2 L and 4 L sizes are awesome. My 4 L was also the best/most comfortable item I’ve ever used as a backpacking pillow. Great video, glad I found this channel. Subbed after the first video I watched (on EMP proofing). Thanks for the smart content!

You can also use a paint can lid opener. You can stuff it in same pocket for multi tool, so it’ll save space and maybe a little bit of weight compared to a cleaning rod, albeit a teeny teeny bit of weight

I originally had a video on the paint can key attached to my kit but KZfaq flagged it do to me attaching a suppressor to my rifle in the video... so it was removed..
