A Skeptic's Path to Enlightenment

Tonglen is a meditation practice that combines meditating on loving-kindness with meditating on compassion to release our own pain, suffering, and loneliness. In translation, tonglen practice can be called “taking and giving” or “exchanging self with other." Tonglen is one of the “mind training” techniques from Tibetan Buddhism that reverse our ordinary state of mind of selfishly seeking happiness and pleasure for ourselves and those close to us. Instead, we willingly open ourselves to the suffering of others.

This was so wonderful. I will keep this video and try to do this at least once a week. Just listening to his voice, which is so soothing, I think will help me and the people I love and care about.

Thank you I just did this for a friend who’s going through a lot right now physically and emotionally. And it brought tears to my eyes in a good way knowing that I’m helping them even though they are far away right now and emotionally distant from me.

Hi! Someone very special to me showed me this beautiful powerful practice for dissolving ego and the false idea of separation from others, we all suffer and we all want to feel truly and happy. We all have the power to heal ourselves and heal others with the power of our minds and our virtues, love, compassion, patience, loving awareness, etc. This talk gave me more knowledge about this Tonglen practice and the ultimate explanation of what does it mean for ourselves and others, who ever it might be. Seems to help me have compassion for others. I'm selfish by nature. I'm used to doing the opposite, breathing in peace and breathing out tension. Where to learn mote about this meditative practice? Is it safe to learn using KZfaq?

@@skepticspath wonderful, thank you :) I am unsure if I am a Buddhist or not. I guess I am not not Buddhist, I am Thai, but believe in God. I met Dalai Lama once in India and think that path is good. I see the different paths and trying to choose which one I am going to take. VDOs like these give me a slap to get started, or continue, and show me the distance between paths and if it is wise to change the one I am on, or of it will be slower to nearer the summit.
