Yup. Rubber melting to the road, lose about 2kg's in sweat, and if you are stopped at a red light for too long you start to feel like how a chicken feels in a rotisserie. Alright, it's not _that_ bad, but it can get a bit warm out on the roads.

A hint. Ask at dealers that sell fridges for the boxes those fridges came in. Go down the 4 corners with your box cutter and voila! You have four long cardboard pads that you can walk your bike onto. That will protect your concrete garage floor, or your dad's driveway from oils change / storage drips, over-spray from chain cleaning, and lubing. Now dad wont't slash your tires.

Here I am at age 36, 3 years into coming back into riding after getting my very first ride at 4 years old, riding Motocross, until I had to move into middle of nowhere Iowa and slowly fading out of what is the greatest thing to ever exist on human Earth: riding motorcycles. I'm winterizing my motorcycle by simply changing the oil and not stopping to ride 🙂

All great info, but in my experience also unnecessary just to over winter for a few months IF your bike is stored in a garage. Where I live, I ride until usually mid November and then resume riding in mid March. So give or take 5 months max (with an occasional ride here and there over winter if we have a particularly nice day and I want to bust out the electrics). I have never done a full winterization process to any bike and have never had a problem, all I do is the following. 1) ensure that my tank is always full when I return home. 2) Keep the bike on a battery maintainer that will deep cycle the battery from time to time whenever it is parked at home (Always). 3) If the bike has a center stand, I put it on the stand and use a small scissor jack to take the weight off the front tire (Keeps the tires off the ground) If not, I use a stand that goes on the rear swingarm to at least keep the rear wheel up and the bike upright. Doing this I have never once in over 30+ years of riding had a situation where a bike would not start after a winter. Without fail, in March, I turn the key, thumb the starter and the bikes fire right up. And with only one exception (that I sadly wrecked) every bike I have ever owned, to my knowledge is still on the road today :) Of course YMMV :)

An interesting comment on batteries. Personally, all my bikes get permanent quick-disconnect leads attached to the battery pretty much as soon as I bring them home. The battery is connected to a cheap Motomaster "smart" trickle charger anytime the bike is in the garage. Never had one sulfate on me. Indeed, the only motorcycle battery I've replaced this century was on the '86 Voyager XII that I bought used whose old battery wouldn't hold a charge. Oh, and Kudos for saying "formulae" instead of "formulas".

Thanks Ryan for the most informative videos , maybe too academic but that's you. My experience tells me use fuel sta-bil on full tank gas, cover bike with cloth. Clean and lube chain. Ride and start all = 15 min biweekly. But one thing more which nobody mentioned. If a floor heater faced toward engine for a 3 min pre startup and 3 min after. It helps with managing rough starts and makes engine reach optimal operating temp very fast. The bike after that very smooth even during winter months.

I don't worry about blocking the mufflers but I always put a plastic bag under the airbox cover to keep vermin out. Re road salt: I commuted on motorcycles for 3 decades, with sidecars for winter. I learned early that you shouldn't use your good bike after they start salting the roads (it costs less to keep a beater than you would spend keeping one bike in good shape) and washing a bike in winter makes it rust faster plus gets water into places where it can freeze and cause problems so I never wash the winter one until after the street sweeper has made its spring rounds.

I leave my bike in the garage over Winter here in Sweden up to -35C. I have always left my battery on an Optimate plugged into the bike and my last battery lasted twelve years ! I also put the bike on a bike lift to keep the tyres off the ground and use the best fuel I can find to completely fill the tank (E5 here). An oil change before Winter storage so that old corrosives from combustion aren't kept in the engine and I chuck a cover over her. Always starts first push of the starter button in Spring :)
