I'm only surprised that the North American manufacturers are still producing sub par vehicles. This has been going on for decades. It's not the workers fault. North American workers build many Japanese cars here and they build good cars. The Germans are still living on a long past reputation. They still have snob appeal though so that explains why they still sell for stupid prices. It's all unfortunate though because it reduces competition, forcing a much more aware consumer to migrate to 3 or 4 car makers. The makers, in turn, jack up their prices and there goes affordability.
@MultiMusicbuff
@MultiMusicbuff 7 ай бұрын
I guess that as long as North American manufacturers are offering their vehicles at least a bit lower than their competitors they are able to sell them.Just like Walmart shoppers are looking for the best financial deal,regardless of quality. I remember that Chevy Cruze.If customers bought them at the right time they could get a rebate of up to $6000 while their MSRP was very close to the Civic & Corolla.

The problem is the mentality of American companies. Always looking to cut corners, cut costs in order to improve profits and stock prices. And always focusing on marketing over producing an actual good product.

My CX5 is approaching it's 2 year birthday and so far so good. I am sure there are owners of many brands out there who are happy with their cars and really that's the way it should be. But if I had to buy a new car today I would go with Mazda or Toyota or Subaru (not the Ascent) or Honda. I get it that they are all from one country, but that's my list.

I beg to differ. 3 lifters and 1 cam shaft at 70k. Replaced under warranty. At 90k lifter noise again at cold start, was enough for me. Regular oil changes at 5-6k at dealership only and it still couldn't prevent it from happening. I'll just say it was my bad luck and leave it at that.

I have a 2008 Chrysler Sebring hardtop convertible with over 190,000 miles. I've had only 2 problems: the oil pump died at about 150000 miles and now there is something wrong with the hardtop mechanism. Unfortunately, Chrysler/Dodge dealerships will not repair it because the car is too old for them since they no longer have parts for a car that old and they are prohibited from using non-Chrysler made parts. Garages and repair shops don't want to deal with it even those that replace "rag tops". I've owned Chrysler vehicles continuously since 1984 starting with the Chrysler Caravan. My favorite car was the 1990 Plymouth Laser which I owned for 18 years. It ran great with no mechanical problems. It just rusted out on me because of the salt. I live in New England and the roads are salted every winter. I also go to the beach everyday, weather permitting.

Do you think you can do more videos on Ford and Chevy overall because they're domestic (ik you're canadian but that's close enough)? Whenever you cover the worst vehicles, Stellantis always shows up and sometimes Lincoln, but the other American brands rarely show up in either the best or the worst so I am guessing they're just middle of the road in reliability overall. Anyway, could you maybe do a video on Chevy talking about their best and worst cars (new or used) and the same with Ford? They're very common cars in America that are relatively cheap so I see a lot of people asking about them. I know you have talked about their ecoboost engines being horrible but that's about it.

Biggest surprise was the turnaround from RAM. I had a 2005 with many emission and power train issues when dodge made the truck but have bought 4 since RAM was its own brand and have suffered very few repairs. I put many miles on them and besides poor fuel economy I’m happy with the brand. I also had a 2018 Camry xle v6 too of the line in the new style that had quite a few issues. That was puzzling.

Traded a 2017 Ford Explorer Sport which I liked for a new 2020 Ford Explorer Limited. Don’t ask me why I call it stupidity because the 2020 was junk and 2 year olds could have put it together better. So traded it within the year for a new 2020 Chevrolet 1500 RST Z71 5.3 which I loved initially. Started giving me engine problems at 10500 with a dropped lifter. Was OK until July this year with 17000 miles when engine problems again. First thing was defective injector and within couple days started acting the same and the found a small crack in the head. Within 2 weeks by this time and 19000 and although had extended warranty was about to go out of factory warranty started acting the same again. Went to traded it for a new 2023 Nissan Titan but because we moved and don’t need a truck anymore traded for a new 2023 Nissan Maxima SR and love this car. Workmanship seems much superior to the other and it is loaded and very fun to drive. Also it does not shut down at a traffic light. I agree with your assessment of these due to personal experience. Thanks

Car reviews should include a study about how easy or hard and how affordable it is to find replacement parts. We heard the news about a Hyundai EV replacement battery costs $60,000. But also, car companies aren’t having replacement parts available long enough. Seems like almost everyone makes throwaway vehicles that will be lucky to last as long as their warranty.

But now theyre all x86 😅 Internet and AI helps a lot too

The thing with Ford is their electronics. The Aviator is a mechanically solid vehicle let down by the infotainment, and other electronics. I used to work for a company that transported cars to dealers for service. We rarely took Toyotas or Lexus for things other than maintenance. The worst, and most cars that we had to take to the dealer because they were un drivable were for Land Rover/Jaguar. For Ford it was stupid things, like the radio didn’t work, the automatic headlights, blown speaker. For GM, any SUV not being a gas Tahoe or Suburban (and their GMC equivalents) were just awful. GM 9 speed transmission were the worst. The early 3.0 duramax was trash also, but now they’re pretty awesome. The one car that never leaves dealer was the Infiniti QX30, which makes sense since it’s really a Mercedes. I’d buy a ford 2.7TT/coyote or GM 5.3 in a heartbeat. Mazda, Toyota, even a V6 or V8 Nissan never saw the dealers, I’d get one of those too. But I’d never get anything European. We weren’t contracted for Korean cars, so I really don’t have an opinion on those. They look really nice, that’s for sure.

My 2020 Escape Hybrid is now 4 years old and no problems. My wife's RAV 4 had 16 recalls in 6 years of ownership. On most Toyota had no fix. My previous 2002 Taurus had 1 recall and 1 TSB in 15 years of ownership. My 2017 Subaru Crosstrek had a very jerky CVT when cold and unsolvable rattle. My Pordche Boxster had a serious IMS bearing problem that cost thousands to fix.

Mercedes in Europe, especially in the Balkans, have a mythical status as a symbol of reliability, in fact all German brands have such a status, and when I show them the real picture, they don't believe it, and they invested a lot of money in their semi-finished products.

There is really no good reason that these car makers can't produce a solid product. Poor employee training and cost cutting are to blame here. The quality of the products are a direct result in poor employee work ethics and training. All these makers need to up their game.

Another part of it is rushing new complicated technology to market without thoroughly testing it and debugging it before production. Consumers become the quality control testers and have to use their warranty.

The Japanese best cars own the reliability top, the Koreans are maybe the next ones, after Porsche (that is too expensive). They have a little bit better quality than Germans and Americans for a lower purchase price. But the best reliability and lowest TCO (Total Cost of Ownership) belong to the best Japanese cars, making them the most desired by the smart shoppers. It is unfortunate that there are still Toyota and Honda dealerships that are placing a large markup over the MRSP.

The statistics on reliability, durability and TCO (Total Cost of Ownership) clearly indicate that the worse car brands are the BEV ones (including Tesla), the Germans: Mercedes, VAG (Audi/VW), Stellantis, the Italians: Maserati, Alfa Romeo, Fiat, the commies Chinese acquired brands: Volvo, Jaguar, Land Rover, MG etc. Agree that Consumer Reports (despite the annual flops such as Top 10 sudden entrances/exits of Mini, BMW, Audi, Dodge, Lincoln, Kia, Hyundai etc.) on more than 5 years data is far, far better on reliability measurements than JD Power (that measures in fact the customer satisfaction during the first 3/6/9 months, not at all the reliability - that needs more years of observations).
