In the clip at 4:39, the first clue is cut. Max actually got ALL FIVE responses wrong, while Kevin picked up the correct ones. This turned into a $9,000 swing in the scores. Had Max answered all five correctly, he goes from $1K down to $2K up. Instead, he ended up $7K down, as he loses $3K on those wrong guesses, and Kevin finds it.

The guy who did not bet anything was already so far ahead of the others, that even if they bet everything and won, they couldn't reach his total - so the only way he could lose was to bet, and lose. He clearly knew how to play the game.

They recently resurrected The Chase here in the US with the three highest earning Jeopardy! champions as the Chasers. One of them (James Holzhauer) once appeared on the earlier version of the show and absolutely destroyed The Beast.

The kid who wagered $0 and then gave a response saying "Some guy in Normandy... but I just won won 75k" actually would have lost if the second place contestant had answered correctly. You wager before you see the question, so he wagered 0 before he saw the question (and that he didn't know the answer), and he gave his confident response before he knew that the 2nd place contestant had answered incorrectly. He assumed that he couldn't be passed ,even if the 2nd place contestant doubled up, but he either forgot that they were using two day totals (because it was the finals of a tournament), or did the math wrong. Winner: 1st day total: 3k 2nd day total entering Final Jeopardy: 37k wager: 0 2 day total: 40k Runner-up: 1st day total: 19k 2nd day total entering Final Jeopardy: 14.4k wager: 7k if correct, 2nd day total: 21.4k if correct 2 day total: 40.4k > 40k *Technically the show provides the "answers" and the contestants must provide the "questions", that's why everything is phrased as "what is...?" so you should flip every "answer" in my comment to a "question" and vice versa, but that's confusing if you're not familiar with the format of the show.

6:33 Actually, if you do the math (and Leonard didn't properly do his)... This could have turned out badly for him. Had the contestant at 6:10 gotten the correct response, he would have won, with $40,400 ($26,400 + $7,000 for the correct response + $7,000 that he doesn't lose for an incorrect response). Leonard walked all over his opponents in that game (with $37,000) but only had $3,000 from the previous one, for a total of $40,000. The Jeopardy! gods were watching down upon him that day. If he doesn't win, he looks like a complete goof, and makes a very different list of videos.
