Dr. Jenkins, my husband and I are struggling to control our anger and yelling when trying to get our kids to listen. I forwarded one of your videos to my husband. That was two weeks ago. This morning (school mornings are the WORST because of the stress of a time crunch and both our kids have ADHD and the meds haven't kicked in yet), I was struggling to get my nine year old to listen and get dressed for school. My husband sensed my stress, and he stepped in with the SMILING. My husband just stood there and smiled, which really isn't his temperament at all (he struggles with anger issues) and calmly told him to get dressed. I knew right away he was trying your technique, and it WORKED! My son just stopped, seemed confused, and asked my husband why he was smiling. Then he immediately got dressed without any backtalking. Thank you for your videos!

This is fantastic to hear. It must be awesome to have your husband on the same page as you; someone right there with you, having your back. Tell him this internet stranger thinks he’s doing awesome for giving the ‘no yelling’ a shot. (It’s might be my biggest struggle) Best wishes to you and your family.

Try calling the SS (social services) . im sure they can help you with someone like the 2 in this video who can tell you what you're doing wrong. Or they can take ypur kids to a safe environment while you and your husband work on anger issus.

Dr & Mrs. Jenkins, your videos have helped me in choosing to have a friendly divorce, and the children’s father is on board too. I found your videos when my children were 16 & 18 & the stages of moral development helped us tremendously. As a LDRP/ maternal infant nurse, I tell my parents on discharge about your videos & websites so that it may be helpful for them. Thank you to both of you for your love (one aspect is yo share information) & compassion ( especially with us strangers).

I just feel bad every time because very few people pay attention in the little things that give birth to life. I hope in life, I will do something to spread these type of messages. Lisa Jacobs, maybe engage in a single support group or parents without partners. Is there a play group that you can be a part of or start one by posting a flyer. See what is available at the city parks or other groups in your area.

I felt the same with my 10 year old. I promise you it's never too late. They are going to see you try and make effort. Own your ish and apologize. @LiveOnPurposeTV 2 жыл бұрын
musetech1, I covered the self-care in a video for parents. Do something that recharges your batteries daily. Could be a bubble bath, 10 minutes of reading, exercise, whatever. Natural consequences are the best. Allow children to fail when they are young so they can experience what it feels like, the disappointment, etc.

Hello Dr. Jenkins and Vicki, could you detail a little more about children helping parents with disabilities please? So I'm the father with twin toddlers and I have a physical disability. The kids don't help me a lot per se, but they do enjoy trying to help me, for instance moving my hand onto a computer mouse or helping daddy get his shoes to go outside. It's obviously given them a good sense of helping and gentleness and kindness, but on the other hand as time goes on I don't want to accidentally turn it into a burden. However all family members around me help me to some extent. What would you recommend for maintaining a balance of cultivating the good parts while not turning it into something that's detrimental? What do I need to be keep consciously aware of?
@LiveOnPurposeTV
@LiveOnPurposeTV 2 жыл бұрын
John Stucki, it is wonderful that they have the opportunity to learn to help others and they are probably happy to do it since you are their father and they see you as someone who loves them. You can ask, Would you please _____? Or do you mind ___________? Watch for their body language as they respond. That will tell you a lot.

At some point they will be introduced to videos as it is part of our world. We can limit the exposure and what types of games they have. Young children do not need video games. They need to learn about their world.

I am currently struggling with my 14month old who is extremely curious, active and “destructive”. He has begun showing a lot of emotion, specifically anger, so when he does not like something he will yell or ball up his fists and growl. I am not sure how to address these behaviors. I know he understands a lot of my language but when it comes to me saying “no” he doesn’t seem to WANT to understand. Please guide me towards healthy parenting for him. I would love a stable foundation.
@LiveOnPurposeTV
@LiveOnPurposeTV 2 жыл бұрын
Ara Velasquez, look at him as being frustrated. This is common at this age. He doesn't have emotional maturity. You will have to ride out the storm and model the behavior you want to see from him. This is very important. If you get mad, he will see it is o.k. to get mad. You can use time out until he is calm.
