Fun fact: a lot of people (including me for a long time) think that #6 is called "air on the G string". This is technically incorrect. Bach's original piece makes no reference to the G string. However, a later composer, August Wilhelmj, rearranged Bach's piece and in doing so transposed it down a tone, from D to C. This made it possible to play the whole first violin part on the G string and since Wilhelmj liked the sound of this, he wrote an instructional note at the top of the sheet music saying "on the G string", which later gave his arrangement that nickname.
@azzy03033 жыл бұрын
@@RobPires WHY?
@azzy03033 жыл бұрын
@@RobPires Oh I see.
@Imm237433 жыл бұрын
Ahh. But then shouldn’t you be able to call it “Air on the G string” Wilhelmj or Air by Bach (Rearranged by Wilhelmj on the G string). Because since Bach didn’t use the G String. It makes sense not to include the G string. But if you’re playing Wilhelmj’s rearrangement which does infact contain the G String then it’s worth mentioning the G string or else others might now know that the G string must be used.
